Coquille Fine Seafood
Dinner: 5:00pm - 10:30pm
Had business dinner there party of 4. Food was pretty good but the pacing was poor. After some good staters that came out in reasonable time, unfortunately it was well over an hour, close to 1.5 hours later to the mains. The mains were ok, one of the guests had bouillabaisse and said it was lukewarm - didn’t want to wait another hour+ so he just ate it. No explanation provided for the slow kitchen.
It was our first time there so I can’t say whether it was just an anomaly but I can’t risk taking my clients there for sake of a second chance.
I think I am pretty easy to please and so typically kind on the reviews but sorry not here.
Overall a very good experience. Excellent food and service .... what more can you ask for.
This was one of my favourite new restaurants! I haven’t been this excited about a new place in ages. But I have to admit as amazing as the service and food was the first time, it was a disappointment this time around. Service was spotty, some dishes less than memorable....the side striped prawns were nothing special and greasy. The lobster risotto was AMAZING! Overall though a disappointment. Why the bouillabaisse and risotto were brought together so one could go cold while we ate the other is beyond me. It was my friends birthday and first time...and I was a bit embarrassed.
Maybe the third time will be the charm?
all in all, a good experience.. will definitely go back. the menu was a little difficult and our server was trying really hard to be helpful, but was very new to the restaurant and had to ask more experienced servers all the questions.
food took a really long time but was mostly good when it arrived. the weakest dish was the Burrata "salad" good cheese, no tomatoes
Incredibly delicious seafood!! We especially loved our Oysters & Martinis and wonderful service the two times I've eaten here. Solidly consistent.
My food was 4.5/5 but others in the party were more like 3-4/5. Portions could have been a little larger though
This is the first review of any kind I've ever written. Save your money and don't be swayed by the restaurant's decor. This is a very average restaurant geared to tourists who don't care much about food quality and/or poorly trained staff. Salad served with burnt croutons, risotto was soupy, spaghetti sat in a pool of oil, and shucked oysters had shell splinters. Was served the wrong vintage of wine by manager. Our server asked what was wrong with the wine we were given. No apologies, no explanation. Unfortunately, the Manager was not forthcoming with an apology. For a restaurant to ask why we wouldn't settle for the wrong wine is akin to asking the customer who ordered tuna but was served halibut why that's not good enough.
Great food, great service, beautiful space
Unbelievable service, wonderful food, incredible cocktails, all the while being serenaded by the most hilarious and oddly perfect soundtrack. So much fun! This is a must!
A nice spot to take someone for their birthday or a date.
Lovely to look at but disappointed overall. Noise level and playlist was out of this world not in a good way. Food was nothing special, my halibut was totally overpowered by the broth . Banana cream pie did not live up to review, would I return, doubtful
Loved both happy hour and the regular menu. Had oysters for happy hour - all the choices were delicious. Also had the crab/shrimp sandwich for happy hour and it was tasty, though it was still pretty pricey even for happy hour. We had the burrata, lobster risotto and arctic char. All delicious. I would come back!
Amazing food and service. The manager of the restaurant was our server and she was great!
They hit all the right buttons with excellent fresh sea food, nice space and good service. The portion size was about 50% of what they should be for pretty much everything we ordered IMO. $200 before tax and tip gets 2 people a snack and their cheapest bottle of wine.
Amazing food! Waitress came on a little strong, but we know she only had the best intentions.
very attentive service great advice for first time oysters consumer
Great food - fantastic service!!
Ohhhh and Great location!!!
Good food , a little expensive , great service
Went for a lunch date and everything was perfect. They did a great job with the design and finish of the room. The food was spectacular and the attention to detail was great. I would highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion!
The food is superb. Extremely fresh seafood. A great wine list. The interior is fresh and chic. Our only criticism was the music: acid rock. What were they thinking? Fortunately they turned down the volume and fairly soon the sounds of people talking drowned out most of the music.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Coquille Fine Seafood. The food was delicious and the service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. Oysters were delicious and our main courses of scallops and sole were wonderful. The only course that did not meet expectations was the Spot Prawn appetizer which was very difficult to eat as they had left the legs and shells on, although the flavours were excellent. Not an inexpensive evening but very enjoyable. It was very sweet of them to bring a candle and 2 little brownies to recognize my birthday.
Fantastic food and service will be back
Poor service and subpar food. Took 20 mins between serving first two people and when last person was served.
I took a friend for her birthday. Everyone on staff wished her a happy birthday. Dessert came with one lit candle which was lovely. The food was very good. The only disappointment was the geoduck off the crudo menu. It was grilled, and because the slices were so thin, it was overcooked (therefore not crudo at all). The raw oysters were excellent as was the main we shared. The seating was comfortable, and we had plenty of space around us. As far as ambience goes, the room itself was not too loud, but the music selection clashed a bit--a melange of alternative bands with some old standards like Johnny Cash mixed in-all music I enjoy, but at a pub or patio.
Refreshing cocktails and delicous seafood appies and entrees. Particularly enjoyed the Frito Misto mixed deep fried fish and veggies and the scallops with mole verde. Staff was friendly and the ambiance was nice.
Deb & I chose Coquille for dinner on our final night in Vancouver before returning to the UK. Although only recently opened, the whole look and feel of the place was welcoming and, from the start, gave the impression that we would enjoy our evening. Service was subtle but attentive. We ordered cocktails whilst we made our selections from the menu - a Boulevardier 11 for me (basically a Negroni with bourbon instead of gin) and a Passionfruit Mule for Deb. It's not a huge menu (which we like because it generally means that you can rely on the freshness of the ingredients and the focus on the cooking) but offers excellent choices. Deb started with the tuna pastrami whilst I had a half dozen BC oysters - both excellent. Deb followed up with the bucatoni dish which she enjoyed although a couple of clams didn't quite open as much as our English rules for eating shellfish require - our server immediately offered to have more clams prepared. I had the poached halibut which was superb. A glass of Okanagan merlot and syrah added to our enjoyment of the mains. We shared a banana cake for dessert. Whilst not the cheapest meal on our vacation; it was certainly one of the best (the best for me) and very good value for money. All-in-all, it was a very enjoyable meal and a perfect end to this visit to B.C. We will certainly visit when we return and would recommend Coquille to anyone who enjoys dining out in a relaxed restaurant where the food is the focus.
The plates were really good but surprisingly small! Value was a little off thar way and I'm not a stranger to fine dining. Also, the food does take some time to come out regarless, but it was all delicious :)
I can't recall any prior first visits to a new resto that were so flawless. I had high expectations, since there's a lot of overlap in ownership between this place and L'Abattoir, but they were exceeded across the board. Inventive dishes, old classics, simple grilled or fried prep to very fancy dried & shaved scallops on top of the Geoduck... we tried to eat as wide a spectrum of styles as we could from the large menu, including some Happy Hour bar items that were not on the regular menu, and all of them were great.
Even the redesign had some very practical benefits compared to the old Secret Location venue - the volume has dropped immensely by placing rows of soft-backed booths up the middle, instead of the previous ridiculous echo chamber. New bathrooms are also an improvement - unisex, so no more delays while the ladies wait around!
Absolutely no hesitation in returning to or recommending Coquille - in fact I'd get in early, because the prices seem just too good right now and I'll be shocked if they don't rise to reflect the real value of the food soon.
The restaurant was trying to do to many things at once. Usually you don’t have happy hour for fine dining, you don’t have sandwiches you have casual plates at fine dining. There was just too many things going on at once. The food was average. Location is great!
Food excellent, service poor-did not bring an appetizer until main course served. Noisy
This was by far one of the best birthday experiences I’ve had! The service, the location, the atmosphere and - oh the food! The Calamari a la Coquille was superb! Thoroughly enjoyed dining here, will definitely recommend to others!
Excellent environment. I was really truly hoping that that the food would match it but that didn’t happen. Food service was slow and came out tepid.
Food preparation was superb. Both the cod and the halibut were excellent. The layered potato dish and asparagus side dishes finished a great meal. Service was attentive without being overwhelming and intrusive. Sound level was really workable, however we have been running into a lot of 80s and 90s rock as background music. The decor and atmosphere was more suited to some nice jazz.
Fantastic place for fresh seafood. Great variety. Highly recommend!
came to this restaurant for my (early) birthday celebration. was greeted and happy-birthday'd. ambiance was great and there was a table where there were 2 young kids that enjoyed themselves in the clam-shaped booths. i wasnt seated at one of the booths but the tables are spread apart with enough space that you can have a decent conversation with your guests.
Servers were attentive and personable. They seemed to take a team approach which seemed to contribute to the service level. The food was very good and did not disappoint. I had the spaghetti and the Uni butter made the dish. The ambience was Dudley with the pink clam booths and turquoise bar stools.
Was there for a special occasion, service was extremely poor. No check-ups from server during dinner, ignored questions that were asked related to the menu. At the end of our dinner, the server approached us about the desert menu " last call for desert if you GUYS want anything."
First of all, it was me and one of my best friends, the celebration was for my birthday. Approaching the conversation with "last call..etc" basically means get out of the restaurant.
We arrived early at 5 pm this was not a problem the host sat us immediately
We ordered from the happy hr menu to start found it very interesting that the house wine for happy hr was 30 dollars and after 6 went up to 60 .......really
Between 5 and 545 we consumed 2 bottles and had a 3 bottle on the go we asked if we order another bottle after 6 would we get it at the happy hr price apparently not. The computer automatically keys it in at the 60 price point and the waitress can nothing about it. I found that interesting that the management could not do something if we changed wines I get it . So we did order another bottle before the 6pm cut off . I felt the mark up from 30 to 60 was a bit extreme
The restaurant is beautiful inside get atmosphere fantastic food and YES we will be back
Celebrated my friends Birthday. Nice ambiance, quiet for lunch. Enjoyed the food.
