Da Emma is a hidden Italian gem located right in downtown Montreal. Since the restaurant itself is located below street level, many people pass by this little trattoria every day without realizing it. The only sign for it is painted on a nearby brick wall in black and white and consists entirely of a downward pointing arrow and the word "Emma". It is because it is a little hard to find that diners feel like they are in on a secret not everyone knows about.Inside, Da Emma goes with a sleek and modern style complete with dark wood tones and white tablecloths. The menu consists of both classic and modern Italian plates. Some of the intricate plates that the kitchen puts out include fettucini with porcini mushroom and truffle, veal breast in rosemary sauce, four cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce and house made meatballs in marinara.

L'endroit est magnifique, bâtiment bâtit en 1842, atmosphère décontractée, service neutre mais adéquat. Mais malheureusement la qualité des plats n'étaient vraiment pas à la hauteur de nos attentes et de mes souvenirs de ma dernière visite chez Da Emma en Dec 2010. - Présentation des assiettes inexistantes, rien dans l'assiette à par l'item commandé. - Trop d'huile dans les plats - Le filet de saumon était sec, trop cuit. L'ajout d'huile d'olive était superflu et désagréable au goût. - Le cochon de lait était trop gras avec peu de viande - Les pâtes en accompagnement étaient sans grand goût - Le broccoli était à point mais l'ajout d'huile olive en quantité en a ruiné le goût - Le pain ne semblait pas frais, sec - La carte de vin était simple, je n'aurait attendu a plusieurs bouteilles d'importation privé et non majoritairement des produits de la SAQ Bref très déçu de notre expérience qui marquait à ma conjointe et moi notre 10e anniversaire d'union.

I was so pleased with the service I received at Da Emma. My husband comes here very often for business dinner. Our server, Marcel went above and beyond. I was impressed especially when he puts out his Italian accent. Although, he said he is a Québécois . However, I ordered a steak and i asked for medium bien. It was a little bloody. Overall, it was perfect. PS, the girl that works to sits you down, need some PR and smile a bit. That’s all.

We are from out of province, but make this a stop as often as possible. Dining at Da Emma is consistently a memorable experience. High quality authentic Italian food, with attentive professional service. We can’t wait to return.

Dès l’arrivée nous étions dans les premiers clients et nous nous sommes fait offrir une table au fond complètement sous un gros tuyau de ventilation qui nous touchait presque la tête. Un premier serveur super sympa est venu nous voir et un suivant est ensuite venu s’occuper de nous du nom de Marco. Mauvais service, pas attentionné du tout! Après avoir pris la commande, il n’est jamais venu nous offrir plus de vin et suivant la première bouteille il n’a jamais demandé si on voulait autre chose. Nous avons attendu 25 minutes entre le plat principal avant un retour de sa part pour se faire offrir un dessert. Nous avions avisé que c’était l’anniversaire d’une des 4 personne à la table en plus … aucune attention à ce sujet. Tout ça pour une facture de 600$!!!

Horrible experience. We came from Toronto to have an amazing experience for my 13 year old birthday and it was disappointing The snarky server who couldn’t even tell us his name didn’t remember to send even a happy birthday tartufo which was told to him from the get go saying we were there for a special occasion. The manger knew because he text me back confirming the occasion. Food was ok. Tasty and good portions. But lacked the warmth in the server. Didn’t quality check after our mains. Forgot about my coffee. Manager took care of a few things on the bill from my disappointment. But still expected more quality of Service from the restaurant. Especially watching him having shots with the table next to us and cigarettes at the front door.

We had never been here before but it was a complete pleasure as soon as we arrived. Michael our waiter was awesome, food was terrific. Next time we are in Montreal we will be coming back. Great job everyone there!

Really great place to meet, talk and enjoy great food. The set up is just beautifull, the ambiance is perfect, we can hear each other talk, the space between table give intimacy. Service was pretty good. There is a parking right at the door in Old port which is just convenient.

Food is outstanding. Service degrades quickly when a large group arrives. Would not return only for this. Couldn’t have dessert as waiter never showed up. Had to yell for waiter to give me bill.

We had a wonderful dinner starting with roasted baby artichokes. They were flavorful and perfectly cooked For our pasta course we shared an order of pasta with wild mushrooms. For our main we had a whole Bronzino and the sword fish. Both excellent. Dessert was tartuffo: chocolate and pistachio. Service was fantastic and our cocktails were also excellent.

Funny that when I usually go with my friend who’s also always in heels and a dress and we order wine with our designer bags we get incredible top notch service and free limoncellos but when I bring other friends who aren’t as flashy and don’t consume liquor the waiter only glanced at us twice during the entire night, did not even bother to refill our water though we tried calling him many times and didn’t even ask if we wanted to split the bill or not (also almost added himself a minimum of 18% gratuity.) this waiter has literally served me 4 times now and though he of course didn’t recognize me made me not want to return. If the service I get depends on whether or not my friends wear heels & entry level designer POCHETTES it’s not worth it.

My 4th time at this restaurant and i was very very disappointing. The menu is on a piece of paper ! What happened to the menu on the board ? No variety of choices for the main meal. My husband ordered the roasted piglet . He got a piece that barely had meat . I ordered the veal mushroom and pea sauce. The veal was fine but covered with a full basket of mushrooms and peas from Le Sieur can . Horrible horrible taste . 180$ after we felt robbed and will never go back again . The server was not serving us wine , we were serving ourselves . There was no music playing in the background . All the previous times that we had ate there we were more than satisfied and felt like we had our moneys worth. Da Emma changed and is not like the service or ambiance of before , it’s a shame .

Déçu de la nourriture notamment les viandes (agneau ou lapin) et surtout pour le prix. Le restaurant est beau et le service est très bien. Une réservation faite sur OpenTable mentionnant que c’est pour un anniversaire et pas d’attention en ce sens ( ni gâteau ou quelconque mention ou demande en ce sens. Décevant dans l’ensemble. Probablement que le restaurant est populaire par réputation passée.

Beautiful setting. HOWEVER It is very noisy. Food was good, not great as expected. Our server had a grumpy demeanor. He seemed uninterested in giving us service. He never spoke or smiled. Just dropped things on the table and left. When I asked for water he said everyone will get water. Not worth it.

I’ve been going to Da Emma for 20yr and this will be my last time. We were a party of 5 ladies and they had brought drinks for 3 of us and not even asked the other 2 ladies for drinks. And it went downhill after that. They don’t care anyways we were just another reservation on their books.
