This was our second visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Chris, our server was attentive and suggested the Ginger Beets which were delicious. The Chef's Sunday three plate special was amazing and we finished our meal with a Basil Blueberry Tart. There was live jazz music and lots of happy customers.
We expected modern cuisine in an old world setting and we got that. The food was innovative without feeling too experimental, the portions were adequate, the services was solid. Yes, it is more expensive than some corporate restaurants, but you pay for quality and atmosphere and Deane House delivered for us.
Loved the ambience. A rustic yet modern setting. Arrived at restaurant 1 hour early, no problem getting a table. Our server gave plenty of time to view the menu. We did not appreciate the charcuterie plate we ordered as our palates were not that refined and therefore did not appreciate the value at $32. However, the Spatchcock chicken....oh my, the presentation of this plate with the chicken cut up sitting on fingerling potatoes with a buttermilk sauce was a feast for our eyes. I don’t know how a chicken can have a crisp but juicy skin at the same time. The chicken was moist and flavourful. I’m not sure that we would ever try another meal choice. This was a perfect dish as it teased our palates in very pleasant ways.
This is an experience that shouldn’t be rushed. Take your time to explore the gardens outside and let the ambience inside carry you away.
Sat outside but with the construction on one side and a large tent blocking the view from the other it may have been better to eat inside
I initially booked my reservation at the Deane House for our second wedding anniversary but unfortunately had to cancel as we were both ill at the time. I rescheduled our date because we still both really wanted to try the Sunday dinner and Live Music. From the first greeting, the staff were lovely and attentive and even thanked us for including them in our anniversary plans. Throughout the meal they were absolutely top-notch and although the food and music were both fantastic; the quality staff at the Deane House is the reason we will be returning.
We loved our dining experience on Sunday evening. The food was cooked perfectly, we shared the wild mushroom risotto and the lamb dish and they complimented each other very well. The service was excellent by our host, Chris? tall fellow with glasses. Love the gardens and the general old vibe of this historic house. We will be back! The live jazz session was a nice touch, we were worried that it might be too loud but it was perfect. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing!
We had a very enjoyable brunch, good seating arrangement, prompt and friendly service and excellent food. Looking forward to our next visit!
Deane House has a lovely atmosphere - entry through a beautiful garden and the house is comfortable and welcoming. Generally enjoy the staff, but the service on our Saturday lunch visit was good but not stellar. Pleasant but not overly attentive. We were slightly confused over who was actually waiting our table so that might have been part of the issue.
I ordered the nettle soup. Considering it was presented as a main entree it wasn't very substantial. Because it included potatoes I thought it would have more substance but the potatoes were tiny wee cubes - maybe a dozen at most? The soup was barely warm - and it isn't really the kind of soup that one would reheat. Nice flavour. Baked goods and jams we shared were delicious. Surprised they were served with salted butter - would have been much yummier with unsalted.
Two friends with me were happy with their meals - one had the salad, the other the Benedict.
Amazing food and wonderful service (knowledgeable without being annoying). Beautiful gardens and a rusty homey vibe. Our only issue was how close the tables were. It felt like we were dinning with the strangers next to us.
When I have people over to "my" house, I'm hosting at The Deane House. I have never been disappointed. Chris was an exemplary server, and we all enjoyed our meals and the evening together in the greater privacy of the round table inside. I'm still enjoying the leftover spatchcock chicken. Other hits were halibut, lamb, and risotto with morels.
Great to sit on the patio in summer surrounded by a garden. One of the best patios in Calgary for a quiet conversation.
Such a special little spot in Calgary. A casual dinner or a special occasion Deane house accommodates beautifully!
A lovely evening - service was great.
Tables were close, could use a little more privacy.
Lovely garden view.
The Dean House offers a wonderful atmosphere with friendly helpful staff punctual and aware of their guests. The food is very good and locally sourced which brings added value to the table. Perfectly prepared and great value for the price. Thank you! I highly recommend The Deane House to anyone.
Friday at 8:30 is a busy time for sure. Became quieter later on. Service and food was outstanding
Was very excited to try this place but the service was just awful. Server never took the time to explain the menu and talk about the features. She would walk by our empty wine glasses and not fill them, until another waiter came by and tried to take away our wine since he was told the bottle is empty only to realize this is not the case.
The noise level where we sat made it incredibly difficult to have a conversation without having to shout at the people at your table. This was common feature for all tables so this is just a room filled with people shouting at each other. Not the ambiance you would expect for a venue such as this.
The food was also very mediocre for what you pay. I ordered the lamb and got 4 thinly sliced pieces of lamb loin with a couple of carrots. Which would have been okay if the flavor was there but it just wasn't. Overall this was a failed experiment and a wasted opportunity to enjoy fine dining.
The Deanne House is exceptional in every regard; first class cuisine using organic produce, beautiful setting whether you dine inside or outside in the garden; staff are pleasant and knowledgeable. Regardless how busy the restaurant, you never have to wait for your meal. Deanne House is hard to beat!
Beautiful evening! Added bonus of live jazz band outdoors!
Great place for lunch on the patio. We shared the charcuterie and it was way over priced at $32 for what was provided.
Our visit to Dean house was nice. The main dishes were tasty and the food came quickly. Our server was reasonably attentive and deserving of a good tip. It's a great option to sit on the patio on a summer day and enjoy brunch. My only complaints are as follows:
1. I ordered a hot chocolate without first noticing it was priced at $8. I object to a hot chocolate costing more than coffee to begin with, but beyond that the drink I was given wasn't enjoyable. I was expecting something that was rich and decadent with whipped creamed and possibly chocolate shavings on top. What I received was a poorly mixed chunky powdered mess. I'd at least think for that price they'd make the hot chocolate from scratch or mix the powder properly. It wasn't even very tasty because I kept encountering bitter pockets of hot chocolate powder. I wouldn't order the hot chocolate if I went back.
2. At one point, the street construction noise became overwhelmingly loud with some kind of pounding or drilling. I realize this is out of Dean house' control, however it definitely affected my enjoyment of the ambience.
Loved sitting outside, great atmosphere, food was tasty, bison tartar was excellent
Nice location, good ambiance, fantastic food! Maybe a pit pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
Waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive.
We had the Sunday Dinner, which I thought was good value, and as a bonus - Live Jazz!!!
How can you go wrong?
I wanted to go somewhere nice for brunch to celebrate my parents’ 45 wedding anniversary but I also needed a place that would welcome my two young daughters; Deane House was amazing.
As always a really great brunch in an amazing setting. Loved all the desserts. Wonderful time and Ethan provided exceptional service.

Overall great evening. Some small things would have made it better.
- leaving long stems on the local greens made them more difficult to eat
- Risotto dish was excellent in so many ways except that it was too salty
- We waited with our entrees in front of us for too long before receiving the glass of wine we had ordered with the our meal.

There is no air conditioning that was noticeable for a hot evening.
There were tons of flies that were bothering us and alighting on our food through the meal.
The ginger beets had virtual no beets inside; it was all dough and the taste was very sharp.
The dessert of the cheese cake and the green tea ice cream really didn't taste like such should go together-our bad for choosing I guess.
The rest of the food was only OK certainly not to say wow over any dish.
Our service was not particularly attentive or memorable.
The water when served was lukewarm and not cold.
Have had much better experiences here before.
We have been to the Deane House many times and have never been disappointed. The food, service, atmosphere, and dinning experience is consistently excellent. The wait staff are fun, knowledgeable and genuine.

Excellent service, nice setting and wonderful designer food.
Everything was perfect!
We went for their 3 course Sunday supper special. Very odd advertising as our server suggested we may want an appetizer as the “3 courses” all come at once and are fish potatoes (same plate) and salad. Menu offers many lovely choices but the Sunday supper offers no special value.

Food wasn’t fantastic, ambience was ok, temperature was very cold, waiter wasn’t particularly engaging. I come from a service background, and I was overall very unimpressed. Value for money was very low. I’m a bit of a foodie, so I get paying a little more for something unique and tasty. This was not it!

We were married here last year and always have the best service and food.
The restaurant is beautiful and cozy. Located in a very old property and well kept. Service was excellent. Very attentive and on point. Dishes some were excellent others ok. Halibut was slightly over cooked. Definitely recommend the beats and lamb. A bit overpriced for not having perfectly cooked fish. Would go back order other great items. Dessert was really nice.
It’s a wonderful Dining experience.
We were sitting by the beautiful garden and our waitress, Tanya, was well taking care of us. Food was good, my risotto is flavorful. And I will go back again!!

Although the food we had was excellent, the portions were small and left us hungry. Resent paying for tap water.
There was very little on the menu we wanted to order
The things we did order were not good.
I really like the house and garden
However I wouldn't come back because of the food.
The staff were very helpful and nice.

Stinging nettle soup and ginger beets were amazing...
We had a big table in our own private sun room looking out over the beautiful gardens! Sunday Supper was awesome; a delicious menu (prix fixe), served family style, free corkage, and a live jazz band! The music and ambiance was fantastic, the server was very sweet, down-to-earth, and helpful. The staff made it feel very special for a birthday guest. I’ll definitely go back there, probably often.
