We have been to the Deane House several times and the food is always excellent. Strangely the house was not decorated for Christmas which was a disappointment, as we had planned a festive brunch with friends. We got to the restaurant and we stood at the host/hostess station for a few minutes; there was no acknowledgement by other staff or any hostess. We finally noticed her sitting at the bar on her phone. This was quite odd as we are used to great service at the Deane House. We decided to look for our friends and they were already seated. Our server gave great service which made up for this hiccup. We all had the Trout Benedict with a side of bacon to share. The included hash browns were somewhat overfried but otherwise our meal was stellar.
We had a wonderful time at Deane House and enjoyed sitting near the window so we could enjoy the view.
Lovely setting, beautifully presented food and excellent service.
I've always loved going to the Deane House . I do not want to do a survey every time I go. That should be my prerogative
Reserved a table for two, and we were placed in a room with a very noisy table of 8, against a wall. I could not hear my partner speaking for the majority of the meal, had to ask waitress to repeat herself etc. Food was overall good.
If you reserve, ask for a table along the farthest west wall of the restaurant. Overall somewhat disappointed with my experience. Would recommend the restaurant rethink seating in that area.
Comfortable and welcoming.
Great menu choices. Staff were friendly and professional. We were a table of 6. All enjoyed their meals. w We'll be back!!
I loved how the staff cared for both my kids needs and requests as well as made my Mom feel special on her birthday!
If you are looking for a relaxing dining experience, it doesn't really fill the bill. It "may" be more so when not sitting near the bar area, but not the soft atmosphere/music that I expected.
I wanted to go here because of the old house aspect of it that it used to have. The renos, while they look nice have dampened that part of the ambience.
I think my boar tenderloin was undercooked, I would have considered it in the rare category and too rare for my taste. They don't serve a Vodka and orange, because they only serve fruit that are in season.
I would not consider going back
Our get-together for a birthday celebration was five stars for everything! The special room at the front was wonderful for viewing the scenery outside and was quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation. The server was very knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. The food was delicious. The chicken dish for two was simply amazing! There was so much yummy food. Will definitely return but I’m afraid the bar has been set so high now. 😃👌
One of our favourite places in Calgary. The food and service is always outstanding.
The beef cheek pierogies were AMAZING. Overall the food was quite good. Enjoyed the in house sourdough
The Deane House defines class. A bit like the Fairmont that way. Not for normal - something special, but not too formal either. Crisp, clean, and service - right there. We split the Danish, eggs benedict, and sausage. Lots of food for two. Relaxed … spent a lot of time watching the squirrel in the tree adjacent the window - I guess that pretty much says it all. Looking forward to next time.
Food was quite good, with great cocktails. I found the service to be a little slow which is the only reason that I didn't provide 5 stars. Beautiful building.
The Deane House has historical significance for Calgary and is in a beautiful location near the river, lovely gardens. The menu is very interesting and provides lots of variety with some unusual dishes. I found the service to be excellent and the food well prepared and presented. Their Red Fife sourdough bread is fantastic!
Fantastic meal and beautiful restaurant! Service was outstanding.
Always pleasure to enjoy a nice dining experience with friendly staff, comfortable surroundings and well presented plating :)
Really cute place! Took my boyfriend to Sunday brunch for his birthday and the food came out perfect and in a timely manner, server and staff was very sweet and helpful. The only "complaint" I have is how squishy it is, you're really close to other people sitting around you I find but overall I was not that bothered. The price is high however I find that it is reasonable for the food that you are served (quality food).
We had a birthday brunch at the small separate room with windows. Very cosy, bright, intimate setting for the occasion and ttentive service. We really enjoyed our celebration at your restaurant.
Great food. The smoked artic is a must. Will definitely go back for a dinner this time.
Been here a few times and always had a great experience. Came here again for my anniversary and it was the same great experience! Good food, nice setting, cozy and warm. Recommend Deane Hpuse to anyone looking for a special place to take your significant other. Try the spatchcock chicken and smoked fingerling potatoes by the way. To die for!
Amazing overall experience!
I came with my family for a birthday brunch on Saturday. A gorgeous view, quick and kind service with wnderful staff, especially Sam!! I'll definitely be back.
Great as usual. Very enjoyable
Appetizers and the chicken were excellent. The ling cod unfortunately was salty and over cooked , the mussels average. Not bad enough to complain but not stellar. The chocolate dessert was great. Service was excellent.
The most knowledgeable servers on Calgary. Amazing food. Never been disappointed here.
It had been a while since we were last there - what with the Floods of 2013 and the renovation of the site ... which may or may not have been related.
None the less, we had not been there for a while and there were some changes that had occurred.
These were not bad, there was just some differences.
New Chef and the physical layout of the restaurant were the most notable of changes. It went from more of a Tea House to a French influenced dining spot.
You still have the level view of the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers as well as the Fort Calgary site.
The staff were attentive to our needs and desires. Especially important, we were asked if we had any food allergies that needed to be considered.
Both the Beverage and meal menus were diverse and there were options for most palates.
The Trout Fish and Chips and the Grass finished Beef were our choices for the Mains.
Enjoyed the Local Brown Ale - sorry can't remember the name - with the Dinner.
The location, service, ambience and food were all great! I had the chicken with lentils and squash. Really yummy! My friends also enjoyed the toast with berries and eggs.
Amazing food in a beautiful setting! Great service as well.
Sadly my experience at Deane House was less than stellar. Having had a bad experience once and hoping it was a one-off, some girlfriends and I gave it another chance with brunch.
It started off poorly as we didn't get the table we wanted by the window. That table then sat empty for most of our meal. The service was incredibly slow, except for asking us if we wanted more drinks. Given the fact that it was noon and we were driving, no, we didn't want endless ($11) drinks, we wanted our food. The food itself was mediocre. I ordered a smoked char benedict and there was either 1) no char or 2) it had no flavor.
Given the prices and the stunning building, Deane House needs to do better. To top it all off, the napkins smelled so musty and made us all question the rest of the hygiene practices of the restaurant. Sadly, I won't be back.
Decided to try it out for dinner.
Since I don’t eat red meat or chicken, had fish and chips. My husband had lamb dish. What can I say, a lot of talk from the waiter how great of a process it was to make those fries, but definitely “no action in taste”. Definitely not worth the $30. Little fish in a big, very crispy lump of dough. No taste at all.
When asked my husband “would you go back there again?”..,his answer was a simple “no”. The house itself is very nice, with history. Loved the ambiance though, just not the good. It’s only good for a glass of wine after a long day of work. Definitely will never go back.
Excellent food and amazing service!
Amazing! We chose last minute through open table and they were able to accommodate us.. we viewed bartender making specialty drink not on menu and he put on a wonderful show of producing same one for us, smoke and all!! Beautiful surrounding great food.
Food and location was excellent. Beautifully presented. Taste amazing.
Staff was a bit unknowledgeable about the menu changes and a couple confusions with ordering and overcharged on the bill type of mistakes. Otherwise great.
Our waitress didn’t know many things we asked, waited for food an drinks forever, food was ok, service overall was bad
Was awesome, but a bit too cold inside. We had to move and our server was a bit off on making sure we were out by 7:30 for a show after. We didn't get out until closer to 7:45. Our show was at 8:00 so we felt rushed during our main course.
My granddaughter has wanted to go for years because of the ghost history, and I took her finally for her 12th birthday. The staff, including the manager herself the bartender and our server all went out of their way to give her the full experience, from a personalized ghost tour to her very own mock tail at the bar . Thank you for giving her a night to remember for years to come.
Excellent location for hockey games at the Dome. Beautiful historic building with high quality food and top quality service.
Very impressed with food I get food prices have gone up a lot but a couple more mussels would have been tasty😀
Bree was great
Lovely spot , nice job
Place was beautiful, and the servers and staff were amazingly polite, making us feel very comfortable and cared for. The food was very good, although a tad bit salty at times. Overall, beautiful location, excellent staff and wonderful experience. Would do again for sure.
