The Dean's house is always a lovely place to get together with friends. Delicious drinks and food, all while enjoying the beautiful garden. It was perfect.
My husband and I had the chefs tasting tonight at Dean House and it was outstanding!!! Perfect portion sizes, incredibly fresh cuisine, and great service. I especially loved all the ingredients from their garden, and use of edible flowers. The plating was perfection, as was the wine pairing. This was the first time I’ve ever had wine pours that were less than the normal amount with the tasting and I LOVED it. It was so refreshing to have the perfect portion and not an overly full glass. The only thing that could have made this a better experience would be a copy of a handwritten menu detailing the dishes. I love to save these as mementos of special meals.
Very nice garden on a beautiful day. The food choice was a little limited but they helped my husband who is vegan have something nice he could eat.
The food and atmosphere were excellent. The service was slow.
This is tbe perfect place to take your little girl in order to teach her how to be treated like a little lady.
Two of my guests were satisfied with their meals, but did recommend a couple of suggestions to their main dishes . The menu had been changed so we added some extra comments to the meals that we felt would help in the plate presentation .
Service and food was outstanding. Servers were knowledgeable, fun and personable.
The Deane House is one of my favourite spots to go for a meal. I love the setting with the great garden and consistency of great food. Will be back there. soon.
Very enjoyable evening with very good food(duck and halibut), one notable shortcoming was the wine service, the pinot noir was served at room temperature.
The food and service were impeccable! Jocelyn’s knowledge of the menu and wine list were extensive and we really enjoyed her professional service.
Try getting rid of the flies as I felt like I was more focused and that and getting rid of them then enjoying the food.
Wonderful wait staff - attentive (not hovering), knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Wine choice was fine, mains and appetizers were amazing, and the dessert was delicious. The grounds were beautiful and the parking was convenient. A lovely evening.
Great meal and a great time! I was celebrating a birthday and they made it very special. The meal was spectacular and dessert was great as well. They sure know how to mix a drink as well, and the be bartender has his own concoctions and they are awesome. We will definitely be coming back to one of Calgary's gems.
Chasing flys off the table all evening is not my choice of a place to eat. Portions were incredibly small and value was simply not worth it
The patio at Deane House is lovely in the summer, the staff are professional and friendly, appetizers are creative and there is an extensive wine list. The price for the mains are slightly pricey for the amount of food that you get, but the overall ambience makes up for it.
We enjoyed lunch in the garden next to the Elbow River. The service was amazing and the food was excellent. Loved waling around the garden afterwards. We will definitely return.
The Deane House is a must place to dine at . Reservation highly recommended. Reserve a table outside on a warm evening.
We went there for Father’s Day brunch. Food, service and atmosphere (Jazz band playing) was amazing! We sat outside and enjoyed the enchanting gardens 💝
Our server (never caught her name - red hair) was very attentive and friendly. Appreciate all the care that goes into the food, you can tell. Overall lovely brunch, I am plotting my return. Thanks, Renata
Wonderful from start to finish. Can’t wait to go back.
Great service, we sat in the sun room and it was very quiet. Perfect place for Sunday brunch!
Great with the exception of a large party that was creating a lot of noise.
Food and service top notch as usual
Offers a great wine list and lots of food typical for the area. Attentive and knowledgeable service, a really nice room (old house separated into spaces) and a really lovely garden.
Had a great date night out, we wish we’d had a meal just of appetizers, they were delicious! (The perogies and hummus). Mains were good too but not as outstanding as the appetizers
The menu was interesting with food pairings that are not typically seen. The price was a bit high for what you got, but the flavour blends were excellent. The service was phenomenal and the front room was peaceful and had a wonderful view of the garden.
I was not impressed this time as I have been for two other occasions.
The oysters could have been fresher and larger for the price.
The tuna dish (sauce) was too acidic.
The Monogram coffee was also on the acidic side; part of Calgary's search for the fruitiest, acidic coffee. What a ridiculous trend.
Finally we were bothered by flies. We repeatedly had to shoo them away while we were eating lunch. A one hundred dollar lunch does not deserve that.
We had a great time. We had an early dining experience as we wanted to have quiet conversation. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and easy to get in a conversation with. The manager paid a visit to our table and we shared some good humour. Looking forward to returning. Thanks to all.
We booked a table for Sunday brunch on the patio for the live jazz music. I had made a note in my booking that we were there specifically for the music and to celebrate a special occasion. Sadly it rained that day, it would have been great if the restaurant called and let me know that the music would be cancelled. I would have re-booked for another day. Upon arrival to the Deane House our table was not ready and we had to sit at the bar and wait - which was fine. We were served coffee while we waited. My milk was curdled - not the end of the world but when the server brought my curdled coffee/milk to the table I had to ask for a new one. I asked for decaf and was told I'd need to wait 15 minutes. When we were ready to order our server was pretty clueless about the menu. We asked if the soup of the day was cream or clear broth and he said had no idea! My guest ordered the duck soup regardless but the server never came back to clarify what we were going to get. We had been drinking sparkling water at the beginning of the meal and he refilled our glasses with flat, again not the end of the world but we really expected more attention to detail from the staff at a restaurant of this caliber. I ordered the yogurt and granola to start, it was delicious! It would have been nice if the server described the ingredients to us before he took off though... He was really not interested in what he was doing or passionate about offering quality customer service. My guest and I both ordered the halibut cakes. They were OK- very filling but quite dry. I took one of mine home to doctor up myself later in the day. As I mentioned before, I had made a note in the booking that we were celebrating but no one asked what we were celebrating or if we wanted anything special for our brunch. When the bill came we noticed that we were both charged double for our coffees - I guess you have to pay for a new one if milk curdles or for each refill?? We were pretty disjointed. Probably wont be back
The only regret you will have is that you didn't come here sooner. Sitting out on the terrace felt like having brunch at a garden in Paris.
Try the Arctic Char Eggs Benedict. You have never had anything like it.
It was gorgeous night and we were able
to sit on the patio...the food was delicious, the service was incredible! I will be highly recommending The Deane House! I can’t wait to go back!
Fantastic gourmet "from scratch" cuisine ... wonderful ambience ..
Great service. Beautiful plating of delicious tasting dishes. It was our first time there and I would definitely go back again. House baked bread was amazing.
Lovely lunch. Perogies were delicious. Halibut cakes were a bit bland.. great service
Food and service were excellent. Only negative is the seating - I am sure I am not the only one who does not want to be so close to other people. The bench seating may be popular but you really have no privacy.
A bit pricey and although unique menu perhaps some choices a bit more traditional
Enjoyed a lovely dinner on Tuesday night. It wasn't nice enough to sit outside, but we sat in the closed in porch overlooking the river. Lovely! Both the duck breast and perogy appetizer were absolutely delicious. The service wasn't a little slow and 2 orders of wine were missed from our bill. I did point out the incorrect bill so that the server wouldn't be responsible. Maybe she was new. Anyway, I highly recommend the Dean House. It is a lovely setting, with great food and typically great service.
Deane House was on our list of ‘must try’ for awhile and I can’t believe we waited so long. The food is very high quality and prepared in a way that highlights each ingredient. We went for brunch on a weekend and the patio is top 10 in Calgary for sure (especially since you can cycle right up from the river pathway!).
Beautiful patio space and great service, thank you for the great experience.
I went with my mom for a late mother’s day celebration, and it was hands-down the best meal I have ever had. I had one of their signature cocktails, the “Little Oasis in the Desert” - a nice kick of rose gin balanced with beautiful citrus, sherbert, and brut style sparkling wine while Mom had a blonde ale. We shared the appetizer special (asparagus salad - asparagus done three ways with a perfectly balanced green goddess dressing) and then she had the halibut (sous vide perfectly and served with a beautifully creamy buttermilk sauce, fiddlehead ferns, and fluffy gnocchi) and I had the duck breast (with crispy skin and the fat rendered beautifully, charred endive, pickled rhubarb, and gnocchi). The flavors of everything were unbelievable - succulent, tart, bitter in all the right ways. We shared the cheesecake for dessert, and I am a cheesecake LOVER. Let me tell you, it is the best cheesecake I have ever had. It was so silky, almost mousse like, with a tart berry reduction and a lovely oat crumble. Yum. To top it all off, beautiful views from the veranda, and a sweet and knowledgeable server who ensured our visit was sublime. Will definitely go back!
