Deane House Ratings and Reviews
We went to the Deane House for Sunday Brunch. I decided on this restaurant because we thought it would provide a festive decor and Christmas ambience for our out of town guest. We were surprised that there were very little decorations, but can respect that not all restaurants decorate for the season. The food was quite good, which is the reason we might give the restaurant another chance. However, the service was poor. Once our food arrived we were not asked if we needed anything else until we were nearly done eating. I went to the bar to request three items, including water and coffee refills. The restaurant was not full and there was a lot of staff working. As ex-service industry workers, we tend to overtip. On this occasion, I personally thought the 18% that my partner left was too much. With so many excellent restaurants in Calgary, I hope that others have a better experience at the Deane House than we did as it is such a lovely part of Calgary's history.
We are hard pressed to find anything negative to say. Our server was wonderful, and the food was delicious! We forgot to ask why they charge $1 for still water. It does get a little noisy as the tables are close together, and our server actually apologized for the noise coming from the loud group sitting behind us. I think patrons should just be respectful of their surroundings, realizing they are not the only ones in the restaurant. But the food is well worth looking over that.
Christmas Lunch Tradition
Great service and food. Hope to go back soon. Definitely an inner city gem!
Everything was really good although the albacore tuna dish was a little salty. We loved the spices used an d the balance of the ingredients.
For breakfast fare it seemed to be overpriced. Still enjoy the Deane House!
I like Dean House because of its tasty food and nice ambience. It is perfect for me to entertain my friends there either for weekday dinners or weekend brunches. After entertaining several groups of friends in Dean House 7 or 8 times over the past 14 months, and seeing how everyone had enjoyed the food and our times there, this excellent restaurant has become one of my top favorite restaurants in Calgary especially for get-together with my friends.
The renovations are wonderful -so glad they kept the “veranda”for dining. Limited menu but versatile drink/food spaces within this little gem of a building.
Overall, my wife and I decided to visit Deane house to celebrate our birthdays. We chose the tasting menu and were not disappointed in the quality and variety of food that played off the local Alberta produce. A few items that detracted from the experience were that after the first course, none of the dishes were explained to us when they were delivered. The food was just presented with no explanation and it felt like they were short staff. Additionally the area where we were seated had one person looking directly into the lights from the cars driving on the street outside. This was very distracting and was a mood killer.
Beautiful location overlooking the rivers. Charming decor. Courteous staff. Excellent food.
Food was amazing, with a seasonal menu using locally sourced ingredients. Nice atmosphere, our only complaint was the service... Our server was helpful but there was really noticeably long wait times between her visits to our table. But over all we we're happy with the experience and would come back.
This was our third time there and we love this place. Brunch was delicious and we will be back!
Great job with the renovations.
Lovely food and good service. Definitely recommend
The food was very good but the atmosphere wasn't very private and was quite noisy. Individual seating would have made for a more comfortable dinning experience rather than the tightly spaced tables and the one long bench against the wall.
We had brunch sitting in the veranda with a view of the lovely rivers. It was a cosy spot with perfect natural light. Perogies were exceptionally tasty and the tuna was impressive although serving sizes were modest not generous. A great place to talk and relax.
Amazing food. Very quaint setting.
enjoyable restaurant. Tables are pretty close together and the level of conversation is fairly high but the wait staff are great, take really good care of you and the chef accommodated my wife's dietary needs even for the tasting menu. Well done, we'll be back!
First time... and all expectations exceeded!
Service was slow and not very attentive
Really great place with a character, quite unique with plenty of history. Great view.
Delicious food, great environment and prompt service! Reasonable portions, knowledgeable staff, great wine list, and a comforting, cozy place. Would definitely recommend for foodies.
The food was beyond amazing. Would defiantly come back and recommend to friends. Their deserts were phenomenal.
Wonderful evening spent at Deane House. Quiet atmosphere, conversation was easy. Food was excellent and local. Hearty fall menu with some light options. Excellent service.
The food was delicious. The hamburger was one of the tastiest and juiciest I have ever had. Those who had eggs Bennie enjoyed them & the diner who ordered the char over greens really enjoyed it as well. We were there for brunch and it would be nice if the menu had a broader selection, but what we had was good. Service was attentive but not cloying and the ambience is such that it is easy to converse with your dining companions. We plan on trying it for dinner soon.
Service was good! Sourdough blueberry pancakes were tasty.
Monogram coffee is disgustingly sour and putred similar to Phil and Sebastian’s. This “Hipster” coffee is bad. Full stop.
Our table —avid coffee drinkers aged 24-84! NOBODY liked. Table of 6. 2 wouldn’t order it and 4 of us muscled it.
Needless to say it’s a seemingly small detail lbut likely why we won’t return.
Also have NEVER paid for still water. Ever. Except in Europe. Shame on you.
Excellent in every way... great private sun room for special visits with 6-8 people . Excellent brunch menu and also lunch and dinner...good variety and very creative choices with interesting combination of flavours.
Could not believe they charge $1.00 for a glass of water.! Should have checked the Saturday brunch menu on line but as it had been recommended did not. We were very disappointed in the menu choices and felt $100 for four a little extreme. Two orders of Blueberry Pancakes that had not a single blueberry, 2 side orders of bacon, a bowl of the soup of the day and although it was served in a bowl it was more accurately a cup, one order of yoghurt with fruit and granola, one pastry trio, a glass of crabapple juice, 2 coffees and, of course 4 waters.
23 years ago we got married on the outdoor patio along the river at the restuarant and celebrated that day inside the Dean House with family and friends. Today we once again celebrated that very special day. I must say that this time around it was a lot more relaxing, while the food and ambiance were great, even better than before. We are a little older now, still very much in love and this was a wonderful way to relive that special day memories. Now that we have rediscovered it, we will be back.
Amazing food, service and overall ambience. We had a very knowledgeable server and an extremely enjoyable experience
This was our second visit to Deane House in three days - having been inspired by lunch there midweek. As this second visit was for lunch on my husband's birthday we were looking forward to enjoying the same lunch menu. Unfortunately at weekends Dean House only does a Brunch menu so the items we were looking forward to weren't available. But having got over our disappointment we enjoyed the food we chose and would certainly recommend Deane House to anyone else visiting Calgary.
Great evening with friends
Enjoyed the food and the music
What an excellent dinner! They were easily able to accommodate gluten free necessities, and made great suggestions to try. The service was fantastic. We were there for 3.5 hours and they were very attentive the whole time, but yet still gave us enough space to have a conversation. We will be coming back for sure!
Excellent! The food was so tasty and beautifully prepared and presented. Service very friendly and attentive. Thanks for another great dining experience.
I came to the Deane House on a friday night for a birthday date with my boyfriend. It was a lovely experience with amazing food ! We had the chicken for two plus a salad. The salad featured a house vinaigrette and bee pollen which made for a delicious combo. We also had a side of sour dough bread and vancouver made butter.. both were delicious. The chicken was absolutely amazing., one of the best fire grilled chicken dinners that I have ever had, it went perfect served with potatoes and greens. We ended the night with a tour of the Deane House which I wasn't expecting was possible since it was so late in the evening but our server made it possible and Im so glad I got to tour the house as well as hear about the history of the building.
The noise level was incredibly high (brunch).
Found the gardens lovely, wreathed in their fall colours.
Support for table lurched. Could a wad of paper or other be stuffed under so nothing gets damaged or spilled?
I feel like this place is coasting on a full reservation list. The staff was professional but not at all personable. The prices are high and while the food is tasty and nicely presented, there are places in Calgary to get a much more enjoyable dining experience at the same price point or less.
Very nice place. Food are good, and fast. Service is nice too.
Wonderful! Great food, great wine, and perfect ambience. A night to remember.
Absolutely fabulous! The staff simply amazing! The food was spectacular. We had the tasting which I would highly recommend. This is our new favourite place. We will definitely return.
I have had three wonderful experiences.
1. for a business event for some coworkers from Germany - which was SOO well done
2. with family - which the services was fabulous along with food and Serve
3. was the family again, I think my uncle quote for every bite was "this is the best chicken I have ever had"
Thank you Deane house for making every experience a amazing one. HIGH recommend this!!!
