We ate there during COVID. The hotel and staff did an excellent job of keeping patrons safe. The food was very good and the service excellent. Would highly recommend eating at the restaurant.
Our server Lewis was very good. We had the salmon entree which was very good.
The food was not good. We ordered steak which was tough and had large portions of inedible fat/gristle. When our meals arrived they were not hot. Overall a disappointing meal considering the high price tag.
Our waiter, however, was pleasant and did his best.
Made a reservation. Came in from the rain. Due to COVID-19, we were seated not in the dining room but in the hallway at a rickety table against a window and the entrance door. After being seated, 45 minutes to have someone take our drink order. Another 30 minutes to get a cup of tea and a glass of water. Charcuterie platter used to come on a cutting board with a good selection of meats, cheeses, jams, etc. This visit, it was served on a side plate. Only one type of cheese (charged extra) and a pathetic selection of meat. About $2 max worth of food for over $20. Alberta beef is now considered wild game according to the waiter. Menu has changed for the worse. Service is probably the worst I've ever experienced in my extensive domestic and international dining experience. I was told by the waiter (after being there over 3 1/2 hrs) that they were short staffed due to COVID-19 as most of the staff had to return to Australia. With the current unemployment rate in this province, I find it extremely insulting that we can't hire Albertians for these positions. This place used to be my favorite restaurant in Canada. Many of the staff were from Ontario. This has really changed for the worse. Menu is awful, service is nonexistent and there is absolutely no value for the dollar. With the current state of the restaurant industry, expectations should meet or exceed pre pandemic conditions. You will have a better meal staying at home and cooking for yourself. It'll be better quality, tastier, quicker and considerably less expensive.
Demand more for your dollar. You are paying for it.
We arrived early for our reservation, but were seated immediately. That was the highlight. The food was ok, but nothing special. However, the service was awful. It seemed we received the least attention, and got served at each stage far later than other tables, despite the fact our order was uncomplicated, and there were only 2 in our party. I was also served wine in a glass that was visibly dirty. Our server promptly replaced it, and said it was on the house. But that didn’t make up for the otherwise horrible service. We will not be back.
Service was awful. The server struggles serving two tables. The food has decreased in quality dramatically. This used to be my favorite restaurant. I understand that things are different because of COVID but it's very obvious that the previous chef no longer works here and they are cutting costs by purchasing lower quality food.
The food was amazing, ambience could be improved but overall it was a very good experience and very friendly staff.
Wonderful service and food!
Things are slow these days due to Covid, but Deer Lodge is still committed to excellent service, quality, and safety, and they still offer plenty of great menu options. The server, Mandeep, was friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent. Thanks!
The extreme Covid measures wrecked the ambiance of the restaurant, but we understood that in these early days of re-opening they were being very cautious. It is ironic that just a few steps away at the waterfront of Lake Louise, crowds of people were standing shoulder to shoulder taking in the view.
The potato and bacon soup was to die for. My salmon was excellent - cooked to perfection; my son's steak was a little 'chewy'.
Nicole was our server and gave us great service.
Excellent choix de venaison
Contrairement au menu en ligne, il n’y avait pas de le bœuf sur le menu
The dining room is amazing. The menu was small but it was hard to decide what to get as everything sounded amazing. The food we did get was spectacular. It was a large portion, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The wait staff was very helpful and kind.
The setting is lovely. Very quaint and cozy. Our service was okay. It didn't appear too busy - there were two tables of 6-8, and two of two (us included) in the lower section. The service was definitely slow, and our server mentioned a few times that they were doing the work of three others. One of us had the trout dinner with risotto and beans - excellent. The other had the bison steak dinner - he asked for it to be rare and it was medium. The desserts were fabulous - apple galette and peanut butter cheesecake. Overall a four, due to slower service and the steak not cooked to order.
The food at this restaurant is always good. The selection offers food from comfort to game. Service has always been very good.
Excellent meal (we especially loved the Salmon)!
This dining room has a cosy atmoshere. Food was very good, albeit a bit overpriced. However, given the quality and atmosphere I would come back
The meal was good but I don’t think it was acceptable to have the ‘waiting staff’ setting up tables for breakfast whilst we weren’t even half way through our meal. It’s not good dining etiquette, especially since it was New Years Eve.
I have always loved Deer Lodge and the restaurant. However, it has remained the same since I started going in 2000. Some upgrading needs to happen. The food remains excellent. However, the service was so incredibly slow it put a damper on the evening. It took over 2 1/2 hours to finish the meal. Every drink order was at least a 20 minute wait. We sat down at 7:15 and didn't get food until 8:30. We had skied all day, and after dinner were hoping to sit by the fire, play a game, or visit the hot tub, but by the time dinner was finished it was too late and we all went to bed. The chef is outstanding, the food excellent, I hope they can improve on the service.
Great food, great staff, great dining room. CRMR does a superb job.
the dining room was very cold- we wore jackets and had blankets on our laps. Servings were not generous, at least the salads, pasta and fish servings. We did not try dessert. However the staff were very nice and made a huge effort. A big renovation is due- single pane windows at -18C just don't work well enough.
We had a very special dinner and enjoyed the quiet dining room with excellent service
My wife and I had a truly superb dining experiences. We could not have had better meals and service.
We loved the Crab cake appetizers so much we came back for them again. My wife found the Warm Beet Salad to be superb and I thought the same about the Cheeky Bison. The Pear Crumble desert was delightful.
Two nights earlier in the dining room my wife had the Icelandic Cod and I had the Elk Trio. We could not have been more pleased. Though I was brought a steak knife for the elk all I needed was a fork as the cuts were that tender.
On both evenings the service was exceptional. We will certainly be Back!!!
We had excellent meals here at Deer Lodge, the best of the whole trip to the Banff-Lake Louise area. Hats off to the chef from 2 Montreal foodies!
Our meals were first rate here at Deer Lodge, the best of the whole trip in the Banff-Lake Louise area. The fish and meat dishes were superb and the service great.
Everything was very good, burger was delicious, salad was good.
The same menu was available both in the Mt Fairview Dining as in the bar area. The only difference was the ambience. Food was very good. Only comment was a wine was served in a dirty glass and when the new glass seem to have less in it.
We ate here while staying at the hotel, so nice not to have to go out looking for somewhere else to eat. It was a little expensive but we were expecting that due to the location. The food that we had was good & our server was lovely.
We felt the venue was tired, the food (chicken) over cooked and the service amateurish.
For 3 out of the 4 of us it was awful, awful food. Mussels over cooked, chicken dry and served on greasy bacon mash - burger fine.
We enjoyed the food and the location is outstanding. The Icelandic Cod was amazing. It is a great way to combine a day at Lake Louise with a great dinner.
To miss out dinning at your establishment is a mistake
Good mountain lodge dining experience. Innovative menu with great wine!
Our meals were very good in quality of ingredients, preparation was spot on, dishes were creative and delicious. Service was friendly but perhaps a little short staffed as more diners came in service slowed down quite a bit. We had to request the check after waiting quite a long time. The staff were hustling to accommodate as best they could so believe it is a staffing issue. I would be happy to dine here again.
Felt a little lackluster for the price. Ambiance was disappointing and food menu was limited. Service was good and drink menu was thorough. Food was so-so. Convenient if you’re staying at the hotel but otherwise would skip.
Great meal, great service
This restaurant was near our lodging, so it was in a great location. Beautiful flower gardens outside. Unfortunately we weren't seated in the nicer dining area. We were seated in a room that was hosting a large party. The food was very good.
Huge disappointment. Too expensive for what you get. This is a hostel not a hotel.
Don’t let the relaxed atmosphere fool you. This dining room is excellent. The staff is friendly, and good. The food is fine. The wine list isn’t long but it certainly is ample. If particular note in the bar: The selections of single malt and rum are very nice.
A hidden treasure. Excellent gourmet food. They cater to your every whim. All the dining room employees were fantastic. Came away thinking of all of them as friends. Can not say enough of how great the experience was. Would, without hesitation, recommend them to anyone.
Niall our server was top class. I would not hesitate to return
