Very nice and german. Felt like home for the Germans in our group. Good service.
Great service an impeccable "German Food". Took advantage of the Haxxen Thursday special. Strongly recommend the sauerkraut and flied potatoes too!
Tanja was so wonderful, and the food was delicious! We can’t wait to come back
Food was good but only one waitress for the entire restaurant on a busy night made for lack in service. There were 6 of us which included two kids so we were charged the mandatory gratuity for service we didn't receive.
Only one waitress and a helper, so the service wasn't ideal ... waitress was running from one table to another....
We had a very lovely evening. Even though the restaurant was packed, we could communicate easily. We were 6 people and were celebrating 4 birthdays... The waitress was exceptionally good. She was very busy, but still had time for us and was cheerful and efficient. Thank you.
Immigrated to Vancouver nearly 10years, noticed it and finally went there to celebrate our anniversary.
Waitress was friendly and learnt simple German within this dinner ^_^
Amazing value, good selection of German Beer and typical German sized portion of Roasted pork hock, Schnitzel, Bavarian meatloaf, and sausages served with spaetzie, red cabbage and sauerkraut
Always consistently delicious! The pork hawk is my go to every time I visit, the portions are huge. The schnitzel is also delicious and is a very generous portion as well, great value for the money!
Nice casual atmosphere with good food and generous portions.
Shared the feast for two with my sister and there was plenty of meat, right amount of sauerkraut and red cabbage, would have liked more spaetzle, but maybe i shoulda ordered a pretzel!
Ate leftovers for dinner the next day :)
We were unfortunately late for our reservation but our table was kindly held for us, which was very much appreciated as we were starving by the time we got there! Server was friendly, food was delicious, especially the spatzle and the schnitzel.
Food is delicious and plentiful as always. Great atmosphere and service!
Restaurant very dirty.
Waitress was trying however looked extremely tired, almost ill.
Another waiter was walking around while chewing food he put in his mouth behind the bar.
Took some cake to go, and the box they put it into had big grease stains on the outside of it,
seemed like the person who packed the box had grease on his hand.
Don't go here , there are other cleaner better Schnitzel places.
Our server was amazing. She was funny, knew a lot of history related to the place/cuisine and was very attentive. The food was much more authentic than other places in the city. The cheese with the potato balls was delicious, as well as my beef roulade.
We had the Feast for Four. Amazing schnitzel and sausages but the real star was the hock. It was tender, tasty and fell off the bone with just a nudge of the fork!
Would have given a higher rating but service was quite slow. Had to wait almost 40 minutes for food after we ordered. Best black forest cake ever - so smooth and delicious. Great value for the dollar.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friend's home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The dinner for 4 was amazing. The table was split on the monkfish – Everyone loved the pork hork. Service was well-timed and friendly, bear was wonderful."
We reserved for 10 people and as it was everyone's first time here no one knew what to expect. The food was authentic and delicious, a great value! The service was non descript and there really wasn't much ambience; it was old looking. But seriously, if you want really good, home cooked food this is a great place. We'll definitely return.
Always great food and atmosphere. A little slice of home. Came all the way from Chilliwack and will be back again. Prost.
We came to try our first taste of German food, during Oktoberfest! The 3 of us, shared the "Feast for 2" platter, and got to sample from the whole menu: pork hock, schnitzel, spätzle noodles. Should have ordered some side veggies. We added the apple strudel for dessert, baked fresh there and worth ordering again! The atmosphere was average, but food was tasty, clientele..? looked like regulars returning for a comfortable gathering, our server was kind as can be. We came for lunch, but dinner probably would have been more lively.
Went with family. My wife is gluten sensitive and they catered to her by providing her with the option of unbreaded schnitzel. Meals were a good deal for what we received. Best deal is the feast for 2 or feast for 4.
We ordered the Hunter schnitzels and it was soooo thin and tuff, very little gravy, but the noodles and cabbage very good. This was our FIRST INPRESSION on our first visit. This was more like a $12.00 meal and not a $21.00 meal. Your web site advertised Oktorber Fest weekend for the next 3 weeks, nothing resembled any celebration of any kind .
Made my reservations online as it was my wife's birthday and I noted it at the time I made the reservation. Also mentioned it at the door when we arrived, but no response from any employee.
Will be surprised you'll be open the next time I drive by..
I went with a German friend, and she said it reminded her of home. The food was delicious and authentic, and the service was friendly. I’ve been twice and will likely go again! Thanks!
Deutsches Haus is a really traditional, old-fashioned German restaurant. The decor hasn't changed since the 70s, and the cuisine is about the same, too. Nothing experimental or nouveau cuisine - it's just good old-fashioned meat, potatoes, soup, cooked cabbage, and some nice salads, too. The best part is the beer, and the service is excellent.
Home style Food like mom used to make for us when we came to visit.
Wonderful traditional German cooking in a setting that is authentically German. Great and welcoming staff. Great meal portions. Home cooking
My daughter celebrated her 55th birthday. When I asked her where she wanted to celebrate her birthday, she said "The German Club", i.e. Das Deutsche Haus or Vancouver Alpenclub. She loves the Jaegerschnitzel there and the cozy atmosphere. I love the big parking space and the handy back entrance by the lower parking area. The waitress was very polite and efficient. We had a lovely evening and managed to take a "doggy bag" home. The Schnitzel was huge. Also, I always enjoy seeing the multi-cultural clientele. It gives the place an international flavour. We love going there for family event. Many thanks.
Great place to get some authentic German cuisine and beers. Fun decor, try the red cabbage!
Delicious German food that I wasn't able to find elsewhere. Staff was very friendly, and the place feels nice and cozy, perfect for a family reunion.
I was looking forward to going to the Alpen Club - I've had some great German food in Vancouver - but was VERY disappointed in the food quality (as presented on the plate) - the spaetzle was cold and bland, while the schnitzel was warm & bland ... [NOTE: I brought home half the dish, warmed it up with butter, salt, pepper - which improved it]
Our wait staff were great, and the beer was pretty good as well.
I will not be going back.
Awesome traditional German food, friendly staff . We loved that the restaurant wasn’t shiny and new but rather had the warm feeling you would find in Europe.
Schnitzels are Ok. Ambiance is limited, Lighting is too bright and white.
The food is great. The atmosphere is pretty bleak, but some may think part of the charm. A step back in time...
