dLeña is derived from the Spanish word “leña,” meaning firewood. The restaurant is centered around it’s wood-burning grill - a nod to the rustic open-fire cooking techniques of Mexico’s past.
The menu transports diners to Mexico through a multi-sensory experience in every bite of the signature smoked entrées, fresh ceviches, and unique sharing plates. The expansive bar features hand-crafted margaritas, Latin cocktails, cervezas and vino.

Our time at dLeña was perfect. The service was amazing from start to finish. Jenny was our waitress and she was very helpful and sweet the entire time. She made great recommendations! The food was made swiftly and was delicious. The drinks were also great. We went for brunch and had the bottomless drinks and food. I would definitely recommend that as you can basically try the entire menu for a really great price! I would definitely come back, possibly for happy hour next time!
Not enough options for vegetarians. I didn’t like the mushroom tacos or the pomegranate salad. The puréed tortilla soup wasn’t great either. The drinks were ok. Service was good though.
Amazing as always!! Looking forward to going back!!
Service was terrible and food was cold. The portion sizes were also ridiculous for the price. So disappointed.
Beautiful atmosphere and lovely and attractive staff. The food was also very delicious. We will definitely be back to try everything on the menu. I'm sorry we didn't take any photos. We wanted to be present for the full experience.
Delicious! Fresh, tasty food and drinks. Friendly and attentive service.
great service and food for our anniversary. We will be back to go to the speakeasy downstairs. Lovely and friendly staff great energy.
I love everything about dLeña. The interior is beautiful - there are tables, booths, a bar and an outdoor area. The food was phenomenal but our waitress was even better. So sweet, super attentive, gave us great recommendations and was a just so kind overall.
Great meal. Sat outside. Attentive service and excellent food presentation and creativity. The inside had a wonderful ambiance also.
Food was amazing! That’s it! Had the Pork Belly as an appetizer although very small it was delicious & the 30day aged Ribeye, so flavorful, the grilled avocado and carrots were amazing as well. Husband had the Wagyu which he enjoyed as well. Drinks were good. The service was mediocre my rating is based of the food not the service. Server was absent most of the time except to drop drinks, no recommendations, nothings just a simple what can I get you to drink, I dont even recall him saying his name either. I dont expect an entertainer but at least engage on the minimum. Will definitely return for the food and probably sit at the bar maybe will get better service next time.
LOVED. the best taco and the stuffed avocado was delicious
Our waitress was super nice and all of her suggestions for brunch orders were good. Would go back!
The food was great but the staff were less than helpful. The two hostess were extremely rude, not dressed professionally and gave me attitude. I would not return simply due to the disrespect I experienced.
Amazing, food, service, ambiance, everything! We were seated quickly, waiter was attentive and witty, overall a great date night.
One more time, our third time, we had a great experience dining at D'Leña. We brought two family members who were visiting from out of the country and they found it spectacular. The food was as always delicious, with nice dish presentation. The service superb starting at the reception with Isabella, Cynthia, Maritza; then our servers Katia and Naomi; and the sommelier Beremi who served a great Mexican wine. D'Leña is a gem that has become one of our favorite places in D.C.
Loved the ambiance, and decor. Our food was very good. I had the mango margarita which could have been a little stronger, it was super sweet. The next time I will request a booth because the tables were really close to one another, it was a bit uncomfortable trying to have a intimate conversation and also being so close to others while they eat. The wait staff were very nice. Be prepared for a coed bathroom. It was a little weird and uncomfortable to be in the same bathroom as men at the same time. The bathroom was super clean though but I would prefer them to be separate. It was my friends birthday and he wanted churros but they told us they don’t offer that dessert for dinner just for brunch. After finishing dinner we went to the downstairs lounge for another drink. The manager actually sent us churros with a candle for my friends birthday. I thought that was very nice of her. We will be back.
Loved it! The food was amazing! I will be returning
They were out of several key ingredients for their dishes but other than that, the food was amazing!
From start to finish, DLena is an outstanding experience. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or special occasion, the wait staff is well-managed and attentive, and the food is amazing across the board. Highly recommend the 14-oz. ribeye or the 32 oz. tomahawk!
The restaurant touted their Dia de Los Muertos menu, and that’s why we chose to dine there. They didn’t have the ingredients to make the specialty cocktail and ran out of the specialty desserts that were part of the special menu. No standout dishes.
Had an amazing time at brunch! Food, drinks and atmosphere were amazing. Had a 2pm brunch reservation and they closed at 3, which wouldve been nice to know. Other than that they were great.
Food was delicious as usual, but the service was poor. We had to get the hostess to get service after 10+ minutes waiting, then our server never came to check on us until the end. It wasn’t busy, as it was towards the end of the night.
The restaurant honestly needs a better menu. Not enough options . The drinks lack the taste of alcohol and pretty much just juice. The night we went the service was mediocre and slow for such an slow night, then ther server tried to tell us a drink we ordered was right that he gave us and it was incorrect. We paid 53$ for some tasteless Waygu steak which was suppose be fajitas and that’s it u got meat and bread no beans or rice nothing. We spent 192$ just to still be hungry the food and drinks are over price!!! I should have just spent my $200 in Mastro’s steakhouse and been full! But the ambience was a vibe!!
This was our 2nd time at DLena and it was just as amazing as the first. The food was wonderful and our server Ellie was the best. She suggested the guacamole with tuna tartare for a starter and it was by far the best guacamole we’ve had. The manager Josh made a stop by our table and made suggestions of what to order during our next visit.
Do not make a brunch reservation for 2pm - they close the whole restaurant at 3
It was such a lovely experience in a beautiful setting! However, I don’t recommend the fried oysters, the Smokey taste overpowers all the flavor, did not like it. Everything else though? Delicious!
The margaritas were delicious and flavorful!! Would go back again!
Service was exceptionally slow. Barely could find our server the entire time. Order was incorrect, food very bland.
Everything here was enjoyable. Customer service= wonderful and engaging. Drinks= nice presentation and delicious. Food= flavorful and fulfilling. Looking forward to my next visit.
Incredible and attentive service all evening. Engaging staff. Loved my 2nd visit.
The best as always! No place better in the city, trust me!
I have been to Dlena a couple of times now and everytime has been outstanding until last night. Rude hostess at the front and then poor service from our waitress. We have to keep reminding her to bring us silverware, repeating drink orders, etc. Food was great service not so great.
Amazing ambience amazing food! Must see basement area, WOW
All members in our party of four were underwhelmed by our dining experience. Service was slow and inattentive (we had to ask for water no fewer than three times), and food and drinks were lackluster—especially unfortunate given the prices. We will likely not be returning, despite living in he neighborhood. A huge disappointment.
I was sat so close 22 other couples that I literally had to scream to speak to the person I was sitting across from not to mention one side of the table was a booth and the other side was a chair that had such a low back on it I couldn’t even sit back and get comfortable as I eat. The food was not that great but wasn’t horrible but it was mainly the seating situation that made me Have such a bad experience it was so noisy and so uncomfortable but it’s a very aesthetically pleasing restaurant
This place is an instant classic and feels totally different than most of DC. Amazing main floor bar and seating area that sits above an even more posh lounge downstairs. We enjoyed the tomahawk steak for two plus sides that were outstanding and prepared table side. Drinks were also on point with thoughtful choices and creative mixes. I can see why getting a Rez here is so difficult on the weekends.
This was the most amazing experience. The food was outstanding and so were the drinks!!!
Amazing Management & Great Team & Good service & Delicious Food & Very good Cocktails. Top Great place
Great food in nice environment. We had the tomahawk steak and branzino, both were excellent!
Phenomenal drink selection. Everything we had was tasty.
