Dock of the Bay
My experience was terrible. I had indicated that this was an anniversary dinner in my reservation, but our service and food level was so poor that I wouldn’t even come here again if it was a 1/2 price special. Our server had to be asked multiple times for basic considerations like water, side plates, cutlery. We waited well over an hour for our food, as the order was “cut off” in a printout, even though the server also completely forgot what we had ordered. We sat for about an hour without any drink (including water) or food. When our food arrived, it was horribly over cooked and tough. Not worth the price or the wait. We will never return and never recommend this restaurant. The only nice thing about this restaurant is the ambiance of the patio, so congratulations on staking out prime real estate I guess.
What a wonderful evening at Dock of the Bay!!! Wonderful food, atmosphere, ambiance, location!!
Will certainly go back & have already talked about it to several friends!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I ordered prime rib done medium. The meat was not traditional prime rib but just a piece of beef. There was no au jus to accompany the meat. Vegetables were tasty. Garlic mashed potatoes were very dry like it had been sitting for awhile. My wife ordered bison which was smothered in a sauce which she did not enjoy. Our appetizers were fine. Crab cakes and spring rolls. The sauce for the spring rolls was very hot and spicy-not to my liking. We had coffee after dinner. Mine was fine but my wife’s was watery. This was brought to attention of our waiter and it was replaced. 2nd cup was fine. I felt the dinner did not deserve my ordinary tip but it was not the waiters fault so he received my usual tip.
Food was ok, It was presented well but best part was the view.
Other than having to ask for utensils, the service was good. The musicians were very good. The food was delicious and we were all served our main courses at the same time. The patio was beautiful. Food allergies were noted before orders were taken. We will return
Extremely enjoyable restaurant, and you certainly can’t beat the view!
Started with a local draught and my wife asked if they did a white sangria, said no, but came up with a fantastic alternative with a mojito and blackberrys that was amazing. (She had 2)
Had slider with sirloin and mashed with a huge onion ring, could certainly be a meal. Good thing we shared it. 4 oz done perfect and the potato and onion ring was stuff that my mom made!
Had the pork loin with shrimp, amazing flavor and huge variety of summer veg!
Wife had shrimp scallops pasta. I would even Recommend it. Couldn’t help taking bites of her pasta. Made in house and so fresh. Sauce was out of this world.
Take the time. Wait for a table it’s worth it!!
Food and service were excellent.
The service was terrible. People walking in and out the deck. Had to talk to the hostess a couple of times to get wine. Waitress didn't know the menu. Wanted dessert but no waitress around. Finally asked for check. The only plus was the hostess Charlotte she tried to keep us happy. She is a keeper.
We were very pleasantly surprised here. The food is wonderful, sitting out on the deck was terrific; there was even a waterski show going on that we could enjoy from our table. The only downside was that the service, although very pleasant, was slow. I would just recommend eating here when you have lots of time to enjoy your dinner.
The food was great, but was disappointed with the lack of seafood entree’s.
We ordered all the seafood app’s instead.
Fantastic food with reasonable portions. An amazing view. One of our favourite spots.
I would recommend this for the ambience only. The server at the door refused to give us a seat by the deck railing despite having a reservation. There were other guests who walked in after us and got it. The waitress lady who served us was nice. But beware of the servers/ attendants at the door. It was sheer bias. Food and drinks were good.
Great Meal, Great friendly service. Would go back in a heartbeat!
We were celebrating a friends birthday - Thanks, Chef for the Birthday Cake slice! Awesome!
Great fresh food beautifully cooked, tasty and well presented. Excellent friendly service in a beautiful setting. We are repeat customers and highly recommend Dock of the Bay to all.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and overall was amazing! We sat on the patio and our server was great! The food was exceptional!
The service was slow. The food was underwhelming. It was supposed to be a risotto but tasted like prepackaged rice. Too expensive for what it was. The view is nice.
I just tried to wire a review and couldn’t submit it !!
Ambiance and shade: add shade sails vs the umbrellas. Umbrellas are useless unless the sun is overhead. We had a patio seat and no shade- sweat like crazy.
Hint for the staff- offer the wine list again BEFORE the entree comes to the table. The wait staff should know that many people drink wine with steak!! We started with a cocktail and a starter and were not offered drinks again until the steak was on the table. Staff should be encouraged to be more mindful when some entrees are 50+ dollars.
Tables need a little more decor as well.
Absolutely fantastic food, everything we ordered was cooked perfectly.. and delicious.. the wind list was extensive and affordable, the ambiance was perfect, we will definitely come back again.
It is a lovely spot; missed having the spicy pasta of other years. A place we enjoy going to. Anxious to take 2 friends who have not been there.
Entree very good, appetizer and dessert okay. We were asked if it was a special occasion, we answered in the affirmative, Birthday and Anniversary. Better not to ask if it is a special occasion if nothing is recognized. Thought a candle may have been put on the dessert - bring your own candle.
Wonderful venue - especially for an evening dinner date. Clean and great atmosphere with fantastic and accommodating staff. However, the food falls short in terms of flavour and value for what you pay. The portions are well presented but incredibly small and the taste just isn’t there. One notable exception to this would be the tasty crab cakes appetizer
all very good as usual, good food and great view, nice service... no wifi…
Excellent food and service. Very talented staff in the kitchen and on the floor. Every course was excellent, not something that I find common these days. Looking forward to our next visit.
Enjoyed but last night of season and they were out of several things
Excellent menu. Food is very delicious and well presented. Service is friendly and caring. We happened to be there on a very warm evening in October and sat on the lonely patio overlooking Lake Muskoka. Loved it
My fourth visit and the location is awsum and the food has been consistently excellent.
Excellent repas avec vue sur le lac ! Portions généreuses, service attentif. Nous y reviendrons assurément!
Great food, great service and amazing views! I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who's looking for a fine dining experience!
The dinner was fabulous! My parents each had one of the seafood pastas - said the seafood was among the tastiest and freshest they have ever had in a restaurant. I had a striploin steak cooked to perfection as were the vegetables. Presentation was beautiful. The bread served before dinner was warm and fresh and so good. Our only complaint was the service but I think that was isolated to our server as others seemed to be looked after very attentively. I would return to this restaurant!
This place was so good, we went back again the very next day !
We had supper with friends there; our 3rd visit, their first time. And they loved it! We ate inside because it was chilly but will return for outside eating next year.
We have been coming to the Dock on the Bay for 5 years and it keeps getting better! The owners and their family are hard working and as they say, "We just keep learning from our mistakes"
My wife had the seafood chowder...the best ever!
Shrimp and scallop spaghettini was fantastic and my tenderloin steak was cooked to perfection. Service was outstanding by the owner's son.
Congratulations to a hard working family restaurant!
It was our first visit. Excellent food! Our server, Anna, was very patient with my husband. Haha It was a slow, relaxing dinner. Looking forward to our next visit!
Amazing meal but no choices for children
Would recommend to any looking for good food and a muskoka ambience !
This place was outstanding. A true gem in Gravenhurst. Server was so attentive and made sure we were extremely satisfied with everything which we were . Food was absolutely delicious. Made our anniversary that much more special.
Have been going a lot this summer. The owners have done a really good job keeping the service levels high. Busy during the 2 main months of the summer season, so I always made reservations which worked out great !
The serving staff is great, and was especially helpful when I took my dear 87 year old Mom in her walker or wheel chair.
Beautiful views, exceptional service and meal items were outstanding.
Enjoyed a lovely evening in beautiful gravenhurst.
Nice view, first rate service and excellent seafood chowder!
I would give this restaurant 10 stars if it was an option. My husband and I went for dinner on our anniversary, and I can’t say enough good things about this place. The food is up to the best Toronto fine dining standards,
if not better. I had a cream of mushroom and potato soup for an appetizer and my husband had bruschetta bread. Both outstanding! Fresh, flavorful and portions plentiful. We both had orange roughy for the main course, it was one of the specials. We eat a lot of fish and I have to say this was one of the best , if not the best I have ever eaten. Perfectly cooked and spiced! Not salty or over cooked, as it often happens in restaurants.
Desserts were devine! Carrot cheese cake and key lime pie were the ones we tried, and both were great! Even coffe was very tasty.
Besides being a coulinary delight, our server, Brant, made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Friendly, courteous and just a great person. Trying so hard to make sure everyone is happy and taken care of.
And did I mention the sunset? Gorgeous!!
Can’t wait to go back up North and visit this restaurant again.
