Absolutely loved the entire experience, beginning to end! Definitely a new go to for us. Did the full 8 course tasting menu with pairing. Delicious and attention to detail was fantastic.
Not only the best meal but the best experience we have ever had at a restaurant...definitely lives up to its Michelin star reputation...Toronto is lucky to have been chosen to have the latest Don Alfonso. We will be back very soon:)
Amazing dishes value for money great service. The location is good. Nice atmosphere
The Service was great. Everyone was attentive And friendly. Most of all the ambience was not pretentious or stuck up which makes a huge difference on a restaurant experience. Keep it up.
Amazing knowledge of every server, our server can answer or find out the answer of every question we have about food, ingredients and etc
Wonderful meal in a beautiful historic building with a modern renovation. Excellent service and tastey creative food. Visual masterpiece!!
WOW!!! My parents had been to the original one in Italy and recommended us to go in our trip to Toronto! And so glad we did! Absolutely incredible, from the place with a complete white marble kitchen, amazing service, drinks and of course the food! Perfectly crafted dishes in amazing plates, great ambiance and service throughout! We have been to lots of Michelin tar restaurants and this one is up there and reasonably priced! Definitely recommend!!!
Very good, creative and to the point food!
Our waiter Andrew was exceptional!
We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back next time we are in Toronto.
Restsurant saver was the waiter Benjamin.... the young man did try his very best to make us happy ....
he did make us happy, but not the food..... we have a few places in Toronto, we fine 3-5 / week; where meals R not only gourmet but also taste delicious .
We’ve been lucky enough to dine at the original DA1890 near Amalfi twice over years, and remember the food and the hospitality as being truly remarkable. The new Toronto incarnation may not be able to deliver the magical beauty of southern Italy, but the experience was flawless from start to finish. The food amazed without being precious and the service was the best we’ve experienced in Toronto. Thank you for a great evening!
We came to celebrate anniversary. The staffs were very friendly and attentive. She took time to introduce each of the dish and how the chef recommended to eat. The presentation and the food quality were great. The ingredients complemented each other very well. The restaurant also gave us some surprises and personal touch to make the experience special and memorable at the end. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasion.
Pros - lobster tempura, fried artichokes, focaccia, signature rigatoni, service very attentive
Cons - main course cod nothing special, we were overcharged for wine (to the tune of $85), the decor is unattractive (dining room and lounge) and some seating uncomfortable (lounge)
I'll go back to Don Alfonso in Naples but sadly not Toronto
The tour at the end was a nice touch. If I can make a small suggestion that kitchen staff do not lean against the counter. It looks less professional. Overall, great experience
I have the opportunity to dine out a lot in Toronto and Don Alfonso is a breath of fresh air. Immediately upon entering the restaurant the hostess made us feel welcome and comfortable. I recommend you go early, sit at the bar, have a hand crafted cocktail and just enjoy the ambiance. The open concept kitchen is clearly visible from the bar where one can also enjoy the fabulous art collection and the details that make the room feel elegant yet inviting. The tasting menu, created by chef Saverio Macri, is paired with some of the best wines in the world and is an experience not to be missed!
An absolutely stunning evening with unparalleled food and service. We had a wonderful evening with the classic menu and wine pairing. Probably the best restaurant experience ever.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Superb food and service. Wine pairing with veg tasting menu. Yummmmmmmm
Me and my husband celebrated our wedding anniversary and dined here on a Sunday. We were very impressed with the classic tasting menu and fantastic service! The restaurant decor is beautiful. The pasta and desert were out of this world. We also were taken on a tour of the wine room and got to meet the chef! Definitely a very memorable experience!
Impeccable service. Great attention to detail. Food was phenomenal. Dishes were a work of art. Highly recommend.
Excellent restaurant! Amazing service and food! Ask for a pillow so you can sit comfortably in the booth style seat...they’re very uncomfortable without a pillow ( they ran out but I was given a pillow near the end of our meal).
Only one false note. Have eaten at many 3-star restaurants including El Bulli, Eleven Madison etc. Have also eaten at the "Mother" restaurant in the hills above Sorrento. Room is sparse and magnificent. Decor is exquisite. Food is what you expect from a $150 tasting menu. Wines are what you expect from a $100 pairing. Menu is wonderful. Wine list is amazing - thanks Rosewater! Everything works .... except. We intensely dislike being told how to eat. "Chef suggests you mix all the sauces and bison together so you ...." Duh. Chef should plate it magnificently - which the Chef de Cuisine does. They should leave it up to us how to eat. It was endless - every course came with a "Three-star eating for Dummies" explanation of what was on the plate and how stupid people like us should eat it.
We tried to head this off by mentioning we had eaten at the Sorrento restaurant (nicely, several times) but the explanations were hard-wired into the wait staff.
Given the number of Ferrari's outside and the bling inside we can understand how a subset of the clientele might need this level of help. But if they're hoping to get on the Michelin landscape ...
Service is excellent and the food is well designed and tasty. Like the decorations and the open kitchen. Absolutely a worthy restaurant. Recommend for dates and special occasions.
Completely recommend the tasting menu. We had a fantastic night, the menu and service were no less than excellent.
Decadently delicious and beautifully presented Chef’s tasting menus. The egg with burrata cream foam and truffles and tofu garlic soup were amazing. Beautiful restaurant and great service.
Since we do not want to downgrade our previous comments on other restaurant we need 6 STARS for Don Alfonso ! By far the best gourmet experience we have had in Toronto ! Perfect wine pairing and impeccable service ! Looking forward to our next visit !
We decided to pop in and sit on the mezzanine level for the ala cart menu. The ambience was stylish and chic. Our server, Rob, who also doubles as the mixologist was fantastic. He really created a fun evening for us. The food is creative though not all the dishes worked well especially the rigatoni pasta which was lack luster for an Italian based menu. Portion sizes are very small. We enjoyed the smoked mackerel the most and ordered a second portion. We will definitely give it another try as it was a quality evening overall.
This place is on its way to becoming the first Michelin-star restaurant in Canada- the a la carte menu had delightful options which our waiter explained in detail. We were treated to delicious food (small portions, but I guess that's the thing with fancy restaurants like this) but out of the world personalized service. I really enjoyed this place. I didn't realize how nice it was- I'd definitely dress up next time!
first time there and it was absolutely spectacular . the food, presentation and service is unbelievable. it will rival Alo as Canada's best.
Prepared to be pampered. Luxurious decor with interesting and creative dishes. Thoughtful and attentive staff. Not as pretentious as you might expect A comfortable and highly enjoyable experience.
True fine dining. Your other Toronto dining experiences will pale in comparison.
One of the most refined dining experiences in Toronto. Pricey, but worth every penny.
When we went, they had just been open for two weeks, so the staff were still getting their bearings. Nothing catastrophic, but also not the Michelin level they are aspiring for.
This is a once in a lifetime dining experience. Get treated like royalty. Feast on impeccably created cuisine. Not cheap! But well worth the money.
Incredible experience and great to have this type of fine dining in Toronto.
Not only was the food and service outstanding but the chefs took extra care with my food allergy.
The experience was one of a kind! From the exceptional service, knowledgeable staff, modern chic décor, to the delicious 8-courses (I eventually lost track of the number but I believe it was actually more than 10 plates including the mini dishes). We went with the classic tasting menu, which included a wide variety of the freshest produce and protein one could find. Every course was beautifully displayed, with the level of creativity you would expect from a Michelin-starred chef/owner.
My fav was the eel gelato although it may not be for everybody; boyfriend couldn't finish his. The mackerel spaghetti was cooked al dente, which didn't suit our taste, but our server was not hesitant at all to have the chef make us a new plate. Again, service was outstanding. For the final touch, knowing it was my boyfriend's birthday, all the staff signed a birthday card for him. That was cute ;)
Their tasting menu changes every 2-3 months so we'll definitely visit again.
Amazing service and food, an incredible dining experience. Extensive wine list. Manager and servers went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. Expensive but worth it.
Overall wonderful experience at Don Alfonso in Toronto! We tasted both the classic and contemporary menus - each dish not only blew us away with a combination of delicious and fresh Italian-inspired flavors but are also also presented beautifully with a perfect balance of color and textures. Individual wine pairings with each dish top it off to create a culinary masterpiece. Service was also fantastic from bartenders, sommelier to servers. The decor is outstanding- sharp and contemporary paralleling the inspiration behind the menu. After dinner, we went to the upstairs lounge for cocktails-all handcrafted and uniquely designed by the in-house mixologist. Creative and fun- great end to a wonderful evening at Don Alfonso. Looking forward to returning to try the a la carte menu offered upstairs. Will definitely return to main dining room for special occasions in the future. Recommend to all foodies and those who love fine dining and creative tasting menus.
Several irresistable options from the bread tray, so difficult to decide, I opted for the first one, a mini baguette, still warm. Dipped a piece of bread in olive oil adorned with a twig of rosemary, but once I tried it with smoked butter, that was a pièce de resistance. The first few courses were eye popping, amazing wine pairings until the main course, a magnificent generous portion of bison wrapped in a leaf and pastry served with a salsa verde that tasted a little too pickled and a tomato sauce. This and the Brunello clashed, so I opted to doggy bag the bison. One of the four guests opted for the contemporary menu vs classic which will be my choice next time. The sommeliers do a great job of explaining the reason for each pairing and the service is superb. Loved the tour of the wine cellar and the restaurant, the upstairs bar and next time will certainly enjoy one of their amazing cocktails. Planning to go back in two months, would love to coincide the next visit when Chef Ernesto is visiting from Italy.
We celebrated my bf’s b-day there, loved it! Felt really welcomed! People were nice and patient! The dishes were amazing! Will definitely go back!
For 4 weeks in, this place impressed. Been to many Michelin Star restos around the world. Canada needs to recognize this place. Well done Don Alfonso #KeepItUp
See you on the Amalfi Coast
Recently opened - they took over the Rosewater Supper Club- new decor is light. airy and elegant. Just found the sculpture of "Don Alfonso"disconcerting - try to get table away from it. Italian restaurant trying to compete with top places in the city.
The main floor does only the tasting menus - two of them - one "plant friendly" and one meat. The mezzanine has organic cocktails and a la carte. We tried the meat & wine pairing. Food and presentation were wonderful as was the wine pairing. Staff are trying hard and friendly.
Expensive, but would recommend for that special meal. Will give the good places in town " a run for their money"
