Earls Kitchen + Bar - Barlow Trail - Calgary
Earls did not honor my reservation, which was very upsetting last minute
The food was terrible. The service was not that great was very disappointed
Always great service and great food in the dining area.
I love this location! It’s a great spot for a nice sit down lunch with a friend. The food is always good as is the service. The atmosphere is warm, cozy and comfortable. Our food came out quickly and was delicious. We’ll be back!
Had an overall positive experience only because of the company present. Sadly the meals were hit and miss. Indeed we were never asked how the meals were during the entire visit. Our guest who was celebrating his 18th didn't get his meal with the rest of us, as somehow the kitchen didn't get the order until I pointed out he had no meal. We then sat awkwardly, not wanting to start without him, as our meals got colder. Rice was scrapped from bottom of pot with that burned sensation in taste and texture. Salmon filet was overcooked and far too spicy. Chicken in pasta alfredo was bland and tasteless. Pizza was very good. Burger was great. Old fashioned whiskey tasted like a rye and rootbeer. Caesar was very nice. Clam chowder was in half empty small bowls. Overall not what I expected from Earl's who normally do much better, at least at their other locations. With so many other options I don't think I'll be back
Typically Earls provides good food and service - however they seriously missed the mark this time. We were crammed into a table set for 4 even though we had reservations for 5 people. The soup was sent back, it had a skim layer on it. The sushi was old. My colleague’s meal was forgotten and was served well after the rest of us. Overall it was a disappointing experience for our year end celebration.
Way to long for lunch today. Over an hour to get meals and when they arrived they were cold.
Could not substitute quinoa for rice? Not very impressed
Everything was great, there was a Christmas party nearby which made it difficult to hear each other. Would definitely go again, maybe not over the Christmas season.
Chicken was under cooked and waited long for replacement
We were a party of 6 celebrating my father's 88th birthday. We were seated at 5:00pm. By 5:20pm one had come to our table yet - no one came with water, no one came with menus, no one took a drink order. We went to the hostess and said we had been waiting for 20 minutes and asked if we could have menus and have someone take drink orders. By 5:30pm, still no one came. We left and went across the street to Joeys where we received excellent service and enjoyed a very good meal.
Earls was NOT busy - there was no obvious reason why we were not served. We were extremely disappointed and will not return.
Amazing staff and the GM personally greeted us and thanked us for dining there. Food was outstanding and service was very friendly and attentive
I go to Earls a lot and most times it’s great! The food and service was great during my latest visit. However, I booked a table in the dining area and when we arrived the table was in the lounge. Normally that would be ok however I was with children and family I hadn’t seen in a while and I knew we’d be talking a lot. The music is way louder in the lounge. It was difficult to have a solid conversation almost yelling over the table.

Had Poke Bowl which had less than 1.5 ounce of tuna and dried out rice which server switched out for noodles . My Guest had Kung Pao bowl which was ok. Service was decent but value for food was lacking.

Cold and cozy music. Great customer's service. My kids and mum were so excited with the quality of food and guest experience
Hi Leonard, Thank you for the wonderful review! I am so glad you enjoyed your visit with us. I look forward to having you back at Earls Barlow Trail again very soon! Cheers, Amanda Cahute, Dinner Manager
Great place for a family meal - food and service was excellent!
Food is constantly Good, our server was busy so service was average but pleasant. Hostess cancelled my booking but I was in the bar which I had chosen when reserving. I called back to get Open Table points. The food will bring us back.
Earls is always a great place to dine. They’ve managed to continue serving quality food while keeping the prices reasonable. We will be back!
Always really good food. Service is always slow at this location considering the great happy hour menu they have.
service was extremely slow and at conclusion had to ask for our waitress 3 times over 20 minues before finally came with the bill
Loved the Quinoa power bowl
Had it 3 times
The server was great...she was very friendly and engaging.
We have been going to Earls for years but the quality of the food has really gone downhill.
The food arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered which made me think that it was all pre-made.
The Caesar salad was bland and the calamari coating tasted floury.
We don’t eat out very often so overall it was disappointing.
We won’t be back.
Coming back to Earls after a long time. I found that from the Host to our Server, a very friendly group of individuals. Menu was simple, and offered a good variety of meal options, however, I did find the meal portions a little bit on the meager side (given the cost). The lighting in the main dining area was very undesirable (w/one window) - almost dark & not what you'd expect for a lunch-time setting on a sunny day! Aside from these couple of things, the overall experience wasn't bad - however - given that Joey Barlow is in close proximity, I'd may opt for this as my first choice next time than Earls anytime soon.
The service was incredible as was the food. The lighting is very dim, you can hardly see the menu and it is quite loud in there.
Went for brunch Saturday 11:00 am, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Is "Happy Hour" for brunch, all brunch items are $7. Dined inside but the patio looked very inviting. Would recommend for brunch !
Service was good and speedy The food was average. Prices were high compared to overall quality of the food
Too rowdy. Couldn't hear each other speak. We had to leave.
Chicken on the waffles was burnt and very dry. Eggs ordered over-easy were so over cooked as to be rubbery and all five meals for our party were only luke-warm despite the restaurant being almost empty. A disappointing meal with one of the party saying it was the worst restaurant meal in a very long time.
Just a little to dark. I get ambiance, but it doesn’t need to be that dark.
Catching up lunch with a friend. We both had the grilled chicken Caesar salad and it was good. Service started off good and then we lost her. It took forever to get the bill and I had to go back to work. Overall though, I do enjoy Earls and will be back.
You asked for a noise level rating and I rate it high. Being of that older generation (50 plus), still love the food but even though we were put in an area that was quieter, it is still too noisy. Would suggest that you reduce the noise level even in the quieter area.
Other than that, our service was excellent and our waiter was very eager to please and was very pleasant. Thank you for looking after us on my sister's 65th birthday!
Just ok as service was slow
Earls is my favorite restaurant for food and drinks therefore it was an obvious option to have my birthday dinner there. The food was great. We didn’t have to wait too long for it considering how busy it was. I was disappointed with the service. The waiter was not very hospitable and he seemed to be a little tipsy. The location of our seating and the door to the patio was not ideal. Every time food was brought out to the patio the sunlight would rush inside to the darker inside formal seating area. It was blinding and distracting . Overall our experience was a bit uncomfortable and less enjoyable compared to other times I have been to Earls.
Met with family members from out of town for dinner. It was all very good. Not very busy however it was a weeknight and Alberta’s economy (Calgary in particular) is not particularly ‘upbeat’ at this time.
After bringing wrong drinks twice and having a dinner spilled on our client it went downhill from there. I have visited Earls in Sherwood Park for years and have never had this terrible experience.
Servers are way to slow. The one we had didn’t know which drink she brought over out of the 2 Coke’s because we ordered a diet and a regular coke she seemed like a moron out of place and no manners towards costumers. It took her 25 mins to come back to our table, and it was too late by then because we already complained to a manager about her. But there is no one to blame but management here that’s for sure. The manager finally took our order after 25 mins, otherwise we would have been waiting at that table for so long we would have seen the second coming of Jesus.
It was a reservation for eight people (4 adults, 2 teens and 2 toddlers) on Mother's Day. It wasn't very busy while we were there. Most of the restaurant was empty inside and the patio was about half full.
The food came out to use in excellent time and was great tasting. However, our waitress wasn't very attentive. On a few occasions we needed something and we had to ask someone else for help. By the time the compote, ketchup and drink refills came out we were done our brunch.
That was very disappointing.
In the end, when we asked the waitress for the bill she asked us how everything was and I told her that the food was great but the service could have been better. She didn't apologize.
Overall the food was excellent. The value was excellent but the service was sub par.
I hope you take this as constructive criticism and encourage staff to be more attentive.
Thank you for reading this.
Our server was so good tonight, he was attentive and knowledgeable.
It was a slow day when my sister and I dined at this location, however we had a very difficult time being served. We were not approached until 10 minutes after sitting down and did not receive menus or water until after 15 minutes of arriving. I had to go find the server myself.
The service continued to be slow despite how empty the restaurant was.
At the end of the evening I attempted to redeem my OpenTable check and the server said she could not accept it as it has no monetary value. I asked her to consult her manager who apparently provided the same information. It was frustrating for me as I was expecting to save money on the meal by using the check. Obviously their waitstaff is not aware of the partnership that exists between them and OpenTable which is very strange considering what a large chain restaurant Earls is.
Honestly this was the worst experience I have had at an Earls location and I will not be returning to this location again.
