Earls Kitchen + Bar - Fir Street - Vancouver
I went to celebrate my birthday with my young kids. We told our server that but the dessert we ordered (and paid for) came out without a candle. My kids were very upset. She ended up finding one and then asked us to clear up our tab as soon as she lit the candle because her shift was over. Not the best service I ever had. Food wasn’t as good as usual either. Hardly any dressing in salad, chicken fingers very hard (maybe cooked a little too long) and my soup bowl was honestly 1/3 full.
The hostess had a very poor attitude from the moment we arrived. We arrived before 11 am so the restaurant was almost completely empty and she seated us at a table near the solarium with a draft. We asked if we could move and she said our only choice was a table at the very back of the dining room. We did take that table, but considering we had a reservation and the restaurant was empty, she could have asked us where we would like to sit and not make us feel unwanted. The server was very friendly and attentive. The food arrived cold for all 3 of us, thankfully the tea was hot. One of us sent the food back and the second plate arrived slightly warmer. It seemed like just because it was brunch happy hour, they didn't care about the quality of the dishes, which is unusual at Earl's. I expected better from a restaurant I have frequented for years and generally has great food.
Second time there in the last 3 months and service was bad. 4 of us ordered appetizers to share but they forgot to bring side plates. We asked again but gave up waiting... We used napkins instead of plates. Entrees took a long time to arrive. Waitress was never around to order more drinks... Steak was ordered medium rare but arrive well done... it was bad.
Fantastic lunch, many thanks!!
I will go back again but we were not pleased with the size of your salads compared to what they used to be. Definitely did not enjoy your Caesar Salad mix
Our waiter was very friendly and fairly attentive. I found it expensive for what we had - chicken and ribs, risotto and scallops a 6 oz. glass of wine (70.00). Portions are small but okay if very small eaters or not very hungry. I won’t be hurrying back any time soon.
It’s a newly renovated Earl’s which is beautifully done. We love this new design and it’s comfy booths. The food is as good as any other Earl’s. The service was above expectations. We have never had such excellent service in Vancouver before ! We went for brunch on a Sunday noon. Our server was Jessica who makes sure we are taken care of in every way even when the restaurant was pretty busy. The guy in blue suit served our coffee with big smiles :). It will be my top 1 or 2 Earl’s to go to! ☺️
Everything about our lunch there was great! Food, service and ambience all so good. Definitely will go back!
Restaurant was busy. Packed in fact. Perhaps the kitchen was feeling it too as we waited a long time for our food. I’m afraid food was not up to par. Scallops were overcooked, and the chicken in the salad was dry. The sticky toffee chocolate cake was not up to scratch either. It has always been our favorite and we would fight for the last bite, but this time it was left unfinished. Earl’s has always been our reliable go-to but this time it missed the mark. Disappointed.
Love coming here, and almost without exception, it is a great experience like it was today. Cold beer, hot, delicious food and attentive service. A great neighbourhood spot...
I ordered the new roasted cauliflower and kale salad. When it arrived at the table the presentation was very poor....it was colourless. I found one small piece of kale in my salad....it was mostly pale coloured Romaine lettuce that did not look very fresh. The cauliflower were in large pieces and were so crunchy that it was hard to imagine they were roasted at all. Overall, pretty tasteless.
We had a server who was so slow. We got our appys before our drinks. Actually we had to ask 2 x for the server who hardly came so then the
Manager assisted us who was just as useless
WILL NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND
Learn from Richmond earls they are amazing
Pleasant place for reunion with longtime friend: service friendly but unobtrusive; restaurant did observe my request for as quiet a table as possible, so we could easily talk. Food was tasty, lobster appetizer not generous but delicious. Friend happy with choices for (mostly) keto diet.
Always great, beautiful reno, Service was perfect!
Enjoyed the lunch. Fresh salads are always good! Prices for salads are over priced but the menu is good. Your parking is a real bonus, please don’t ever change it. Lily Merritt Staff is congenial!
My order wasn't correct. I ordered steak with prawns and it didn't come with any prawns. At any other restaurant, they would have taken it off the bill, as it arrived late. It was still on the bill, which was very pricy for a family of 4.
Worst service ever here & we are frequent customers. First round of lager when we finally got the servers attention & ordered & got our drinks, the glasses were very warm, not the usual cold/frosted glass. Almost had to trip the server to get any attention, he’d walk right by! Empty glasses on the side of the table weren’t enough of a hint either, no asking how anything was, do you want another round, etc. We ended up asking other servers for service! It was ridiculous.
Quinoa + chicken power bowl was not bad. For the price, I wasn't very impressed with the amount of protein on the plate though. Service was mediocre.
Always consistently good
Seated quickly and got our first drinks but took a long time before our server took our food order. We began by asking for an appetizer then she left to put the order in, but we weren’t finished giving our entree order. Anyway we had a good time but the funny thing is we counted 5 separate instances of an employee dropping plates or glasses throughout the evening. It wasn’t that busy on a Wednesday evening but maybe the staff were in too much of a hurry.
The customer service at this location had taken a major turn for the worst. The servers are not educated on the menu and happy hour, and my food came with a gross thing on it. I kept saying it wasn’t a hair it was a piece of cloth and they all came over and acted like we were idiots and were super rude. Too bad I’d already paid and given a decent tip.
We had ordered appy and meals. Meals arrived before the appy. Although they took meals away and appy came. My suspicion is the meals were kept under heat lamp and brought back as my burger paddy was quite dry around the edges. Didn't raise any concerns as we were on our way to attend a play and short on time.
Earl's continues to be VERY noisy making it difficult to have a conversation or even hear our server. Our server was attentive and found answers to my questions. It was my birthday and I was looking forward to the calamari appetizer and the baked sockeye. The calamari was listed on the online menu but not on the on sight menu. The appetizers we ordered were very small portions. The wild sockeye salmon is now farmed Atlantic salmon. Although this is cheaper for Earl's to purchase, the menu price did not reflect this. Even more important, the farmed fish industry is polluting our ocean and affecting our local fish. Why doesn't Earl's do their part to support a cleaner environment?
Love happy hour value and selection, thank you Earl's!
We ordered chicken and waffles for a toddler as it seemed like a good option. The chicken was covered with a hot spice rub and waffles drizzled all over with sriracha sauce. The menu had no mention of the dish being spicy and the waitress didn’t say anything at the time of order.
Another great night out at Earls, this time there were 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 kids. Had a nice long table near the bar and an EXCELLENT server (wish I could remember her name)..super efficient, kind and just made it a great night. Food is always excellent and overall very enjoyable. My only suggestion is for the amount of families that seem to visit Earls, it's still odd that they don't have any kind of kids menu (whatsoever!)..so we always have to get a 'regular' burger and have them split it in half for the little kids..but in saying that they do it easily and happily so not a huge issue.
It wasgrssg the patio wasaweos e
We four always enjoy our regular Sunday meal at Earl’s!
Great - as always
We had made reservations on Open Table as we were heading to a concert after dinner. The restaurant called us to confirm our needs, we had 2 of the 8 guests in wheelchairs. The service was very good, attentive but not pushy, and we all enjoyed our food orders.
Very happy that our table was ready when we arrived at 1:)) p.m.We found the service & food to be very good, good value for money. However, my friends & I found the noise level to be high, making it difficult to carry on a conversation. I Wonder if Management can do something to lower the noise level.
We had great service. Our table was ready when we arrived. I have elderly parents and the staff was very patient and understanding with them. Still the restaurant is noisy. Luckily we had a table in the corner
Our party of 8 has been meeting once a year at Earl's for 5 years, and in smaller groups for probably 20. Overall, we will likely go back again, if only out force of habit. Mostly we agreed that standards have deteriorated over the years. The space need a reno. The menu is OK but not as good as it was. Food portions were very small for a lunchtime event. POur server was very nice but they couldnt find a candle for a birthday desert. Maybe we will go somewhere else next year.
Experience would have been better if the waitress was more attentive. Barely saw her. And sat with an empty drink most of the time. Didn't also get to see my bill before she handed me the machine and it didn't occur until after I left that I probably was over charged also.
Overall great food and drinks, bad service.
Waited for server to come to table on many occasions
We had to wait almost 40 minutes for our drinks.
Also, my friend ordered an ice tea which he waited for 30 minutes.
Not impressed with this type of service. Especially being in the hospitality industry myself. The manager came to us with a look of nervousness and did not address the situation thoroughly. I am a manager myself and I would not have conducted myself in that manner and I would have made sure my guests would have left happy.
We usually love the food, but the portions were tiny and food disappointing. We ordered the new lobster tostado and could barely see any lobster on the small cracker it cane on which was a very spicy recipe. We had a chicken sort of appetizer that was also too spicy and tasted lousy. We then ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken. The chicken amount was very little, and “grilled” should have been called “burned”. The chicken was mostly inedible. Service was great, but meal was lousy.
We have been coming here for over 30 years. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and now my office is less than 2 blocks away! Clients, Family and Friends this place is our comfort zone.
We arrived and were greeted and seated shortly after we arrived.
Server came to the table and took our drink order. She came back with our drinks and toon our food order. We waited for over 30 minutes for our food to come out and our server was no where in sight. We had to get up to look for her to ask her to see what was taking so long and she didn’t come back for another 10 minutes at which time my husband went to go ask again and then she came out with our food which was obviously sitting there because it was like warm by the time we received it.
Don’t think she cared because gratuity was automatically added since we were a party of 7.
Good place to have a business meeting. They are quick and food is decent
