Earls Kitchen + Bar - Guildford
Great food. Great service
My service was horrible, wait for a dynamite roll and ceasar salad - that came wilted was one hour. worst experience ever.
The food is good .. and the service is great
First of all, I want to clarify that our experience was not the server's fault. It was insanely busy and they were completely understaffed. It just meant that I waited 20 minutes before even being acknowledged, but I've worked as a server, and I get it. She was great at letting us know the kitchen was slammed and it would be about 45 minutes for food (it was over an hour), and even suggested something quick we could order just to get some food in our systems. What it meant though, was that the details slipped through the cracks, such as having to ask for water three times. We were served the wrong bottle of wine and not enough glasses, which was quickly fixed, but served in a carafe instead of the bottle, so we couldn't keep it chilled. Our food was good once it arrived, and the servers were great at staying cheerful in the midst of the chaos. It wasn't an ideal scenario, but the staff did the best they could.
Dined on a Saturday night staff was friendly and courteous. The problem was the long wait to receive our dinner. We waited over an hour to eat. As we looked around we noticed no one else has dinner either. The kitchen was running extremely behind. We finally reached out to the manager once we seen that people who had just recently arrive to the restaurant get their meals before us. She apologize and comped our appetizer. We didn’t want to have dinner since we figured it took an hour to receive our appetizer it was probably going to take another hour to get a meal.
Our service was exceptional
I forgot her name but our server was awesome ! Food was God and serving sizes were good.
it was mothers days, so i expected noise levels to be up
Our server was good, average I would say. Two waffle meals for the kids at our table were late to come out because the server said they needed to remake them. When they came out they were burnt on one side. When we pointed this out to the server, she needed to go and get her manager to talk to us. The manager, after some coaxing, offered to take the waffles off the bill. The waffles tasted bland, as though they were missing some key ingredients like vanilla and sugar. Luckily the kids ate some of our meals. I’ve ordered the same salmon meal many times before at a Vancouver Earl’s, but this looked and tasted different. When we got the bill, I realized that they only took one of the waffle meals off of the bill. I asked the server about this, and she again had to go to the manager. The manager came out with the bill. I still gave a generous tip of 16% because I understand that many people were a part of the food service, but perhaps they could better train the kitchen staff how to cook the meals, and allow the servers to comp the meals so we don’t have to go through the awkward ordeal that we did again. Just a suggestion.
Good atmosphere but music got a little loud.
The food was delayed because they accidentally brought it to a different table, that was okay except my friend's drink was brought after she finished her meal and there was a hair on one of our burgers. Overall, it was an okay experience.
Limited wine list and they were out of our 1st choice.
Our waitress was so lovely. Very polite.
at 7:00 on a Saturday they had run out of rice which affected 3 out of 4 of the dishes we ordered. When the food we did get arrived it was barely warm. Even the coffee at the end was just warm. had gone for a special birthday dinner for my daughter and was disappointed. to the acting managers credit, they gave my daughter a $25 gift card to return another time but doesn't make up for this poorly run establishment.
Very noisy the night we went. Massive party with kids. Asked to move to the lounge, hostess gave some sass saying lounge would be much louder. Lounge was not much louder. Overheard another male coworker tell her afterwards that the dinning room was very noisy because of the children as she was complaining to him.
Our waitress was very friendly and nice! It was a busy night and took a bit longer to get our food. But it was worth the wait, food was delicious!
just ok. nothing special. came during happy hour. only issue was they seated us next to the kitchen and we could hear staff joking around with eachother making comments and annoyingly singing obnoxiously
Everything was amazing. The pizza dough was over cooked. I didn’t mind it, but my friend didn’t like it. Overall still amazing as always
Loveeeeeee this place. Hence why I’m always coming back. The food is amazing. The staff is super friendly :)
The menu is quite interesting in a weird way with different cuisine fusions. The food we ordered taste really great and the atmosphere was awesome.
We had a very attentive, accommodating and friendly server; we took advantage of the happy hour brunch which was a great deal, the portion does seem a little smaller than usual though but nevertheless I felt that it was worth the price.
We enjoyed our meal at Earl's on Tuesday, I did find the volume a little loud when I walked at 1 PM but the restaurant was full so happily noisy. I loved the soup (Clam chowder) but my tacos were not to my liking. I used to get fish tacos but now they are a spicy chicken so I will try the chicken bowl next time. My colleagues enjoyed the burger and the chicken wings. We loved that Tuesday is 50% off bottles of wine - that was a pleasant surprise!
Enjoyed the food and the service. The decor is a little dated and could use a good reno.
On the Open Table menu for them, they had swordfish tacos that I was dying to try. They didn't have them😡. Two of our group ordered the Kung Pao. They didn't have the noodles, the had to sub rice. They were disappointed.
In my wife's Kung Pao, there was this gelatinous glob that looked disgusting. The other diner with the same dish was so turned off he didn't finish his.
We won't be going back
Great friendly staff and excellent service. Food was delicious!
They were out of all Cabernet Sauvignon . Our appetizer of chili chicken was cold. To make a fresh one took about 20 minutes . Service was extremely slow
The restaurant was extremely noisy, almost had to shout across the table to our dining partners. One of our party received the wrong salad she ordered with her dinner. The garlic fries were limp and soggy and a bit TOO MUCH on the garlic. I wouldn't rush back to Earl's....
Great like always, but the server always takes forever bringing the bill. This has happened 3 times now.
Unlike some, I seldom write a critical review unless I have had a truly terrible meal or dining experience. However, in this case I think maybe this Earl's location needs a "wake-up" call. While the food remains good, the restaurant itself seems to have lost its identity. I'm old enough to remember when Earl's was the new kid on the block and strove to keep ahead of the competition. However, this location is tired, service is uneven and some things just make me shake my head.
I believe there were 3 hostesses on duty the night we dined and at least that many floor managers of some sort, but servers seemed to have more tables than they should have. Our table was set with a flimsy paper napkin (some fast food restaurants use better quality) 1 knife apiece (no fork or spoon) a glass apiece and no salt & pepper. After ordering a bottle of wine, we waited more than 15 minutes while the server apologized for the delay in finding someone to serve it. I ordered the Cabernet Sirloin which was listed on the menu as 8 oz., but was given a choice of having a 6oz. or 9oz. which didn't make a lot of sense. While the steak was cooked to order and was tender, there was no hint of Cabernet. The mashed potatoes were excellent, but the asparagus should have had the woody ends removed. Of course we had to ask for cutlery when our meals were served! My partner had the Chicken Penne Alfredo, but replaced the chicken with prawns & enjoyed it, but we also had to ask for pepper.
Service was adequate, but we have had much better on previous visits. We will return for lunch particularly in the summer when we can sit outside, but will think twice before going back for dinner.
Had a bit of trouble getting my server's attention, but all three people who attended to me were nice. And the food was great. Love the ambience, too. Chill, low lights, open space, tables not too close together
When I made the reservation I indicated that the special occasion was a birthday. None of the staff recognized this nor did anyone ask whose birthday it was. The table was a booth, which was nicer than being sat in the middle. My wife ordered Street Tacos which were more like tostadas as they were toasted and couldn’t be folded like a tacos - however she decided to not send these back. Our friend, whose birthday it was, ordered the blackened steak, medium rare which was serviced ‘well done’ and was returned. Her second steak was OK but we then we had to ask for more cutlery as her fork had disappeared with the steak that was removed. We asked for butter but that didn’t come until we asked again. They did take the cost of this steak off the bill which was appreciated. Sorry guys but this is our honest feedback.
This Earls location seems tired. Washrooms are old and sink broken, old tiles. Front door is a temp wood frame. Old and tired decor and menus. Haven’t been to one in a long time. Seems like they haven’t spent much money on upkeep. Food was avg. music was too loud. Hard to talk.
First time at this location in a long time, and it’s been a while since we’ve been In general. Loved the early bird brunch menu. Good value, good flavour, good selection. We’ll be back!
The restaurant is far too dark, they need some additional lighting on the tables. The 4 of us are all in our sixties and it was a chore to read the menu. My husband's dish, the kung pao chicken, was terrible. The vegetables were raw, just mixed with the sauce. I love fish tacos, tried the blackened swordfish. Assumed it would be spicy but it was so spicy after two bites my mouth was on fire, I couldn't taste anything. Sent it back. Ordered the California pizza. There wasn't any mention of adjusting the bill, we didn't expect them to take the entire taco dinner off but a discount would have been nice. Charged us for bottled water we didn't order, missed it on the bill because of the dim lighting. Never again.
Restaurant interior seems a bit dated and worn out. Food was very nice and the service was fine. Quite noisy and switched tables after our initial seating.
Had a reservation for 4 and were seated in a very tight table. Ordered wine as it was a birthday and the y were out of that wine. Brought another bottle that wasnt very good. Food came and all the plates except one were generous portions. My son ordered steak and coconut prawns and the steak wss litterally maybe 4oz maximum
He left still hungry..waitress never offered cake for the birthday girl or ask if we even wanted deserr
Our dinner order took extremely long to execute. Our food was very nicely plated but the food was lukewarm. At that point it was agreed that we were not sending it back. This was brought to the waitress’s attention when asked how we’re enjoying our food. The situation was rectified for us.
Our food was very good and the prices are also good. However the service was disappointing. The server was young and inexperienced so had to be constantly reminded for items etc. Cutlery was not all clean and the table became very cluttered with glassware and dishes due to the server's inattentiveness. We were celebrating a special occasion which made it more disappointing than if it had just been a general meal out.
This place is our favourite. Went after watching a movie. Unfortunately our tacos were a little over cooked and we had to ask for water twice. Other than that, food was good and super cheap since it was happy hour.
We went for the Thanksgiving dinner, however they had no pumpkin pie left at 4:30 on the Sunday. Not sure they planned that very well.
We have two little kids and the service was really slow considering how empty the place was to begin with. Our kids are pretty good at a restaurant, but it was a little challenging with how long we had to wait for things. We even ordered a half avocado to help pass the time, but never received it...
This location is very open and it felt a little weird sitting out in the middle of the restaurant.
We probably won’t be going back.
Service was very slow in regards to food coming out but overall it was good.
