Earls Kitchen + Bar - Test Kitchen - Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
We are longtime customers of this location, and have always enjoyed the food here. However, we were white disappointed today. The portions were significantly smaller than before. The bimbimbap wad extremely obvious as it only filled half of the bowl, and the chicken tacos looked to be an appetizer size. Disapointing. The appetizer itself was also much smaller than before.
My reservation was ignored. When I arrived at the time of the reservation, I had to wait for over 20 minutes.
Great food, excellent Happy hour options, attentive service and well thoughtout wine menu.
Great Happy hour menu! Unfortunately, our server failed to tell us that it was ending, so we weren’t able to get a last call order in for Happy hour. Also, he wasn’t very good at checking up on us, how the food was, etc
Upon our arrival they did not have our reservation even though it had been made online a day previous.
The bar did not have the bottle of wine that we chose.
The ambulance was nonexistent. It was very loud and hard to have a conversation.
You really should have an elevator.
Poor service in general, over priced meal and drinks overall not impressed
Reminded me of the First Time I went to Earls
Can't remember his name, but our server was excellent. Told him he should quit and go work at a real restaurant to make real money.
La comida muy rica, lad alitas demasiado picantes!!!
Very busy, noisy in front bar area. Lots of comfortable booths and an accomplished kitchen. Spartan table setting: A signature fork and a paper napkin. Knives as necessary are added, as well as salt and pepper grinder. The salads are crisp, the fries thin cut. Not a lot of pretension, and some genuine hospitality. The staff seem more professional and less vacuous than some of their peers at Cactus Club or Joey, where they have been taught to engage the customer, but don't really listen. Daily drink specials and a variety of price points in wine. Draws a large part of its' crowd from the condo towers, hotels and lawyers working in the court house opposite. In the Scotiabank Cinema building.
Great restaurant, always enjoy spending time at Earls! Fantastic food and excellent service!
I Went for a business dinner. Ordered the quinoa avocado power bowl (which is what I always get). But for some reason this time, I had a mild allergic reaction. Not sure what from. I have a mild hazelnut allergy, yet there are no hazelnuts in this dish.
The service this time around was less than great (not usually the case). The food came promptly, however once we finished our plates, we probably didn't see the waitress for at least a half hour. Nobody came to ask us if we wanted something else, dessert etc. Finally when she came to check on us after about half an hour, it then took probably another 20 minutes before she came back with the bill.
I had to get out of there to attend another Xmas party, but it took forever to get out of there due to lack of presence of a waitress.
It was really busy but our server managed to make sure everything was in check.
good happy hr. food was ok
Good food, great location, needs more vegan options.
Good for happy hour. Central Vancouver location. Recommend reserve via OpenTable.
Yikes!! I only wish I remembered our servers name because he was great! It was the ‘standard’ night at Earl’s, and I mean that as a huge compliment. Consistent food, drinks and service are the reason we keep happily giving you our money!!!
My daughter in law and myself went to Earls for a pre concert dinner. The reservation we made through Open Table did not work very well as the options it presented did not coincide with the restaurant 's seating. So we had to wait for about 20 minutes for the dining room which I had requested but was not on Earl's seating computer. The food was excellent and the service was very good.
This was a rare family get-together, but with young adults, so I thought it would be fun. There were so many reasons why it was not. Firstly the waitress was so disinterested in serving, I wondered if she should consider another line of work. She was either stoned or so tired she couldn't function. She rarely came to the table. She would fill a couple of drink orders and then a couple later and take ages to bring them. She forgot things. She was not around basically. We would have loved to have ordered dessert but we just couldn't find her and when she finally appeared it was too late to order dessert. We had to get going to our show.
My pasta with scallops and prawns was terrible. I left almost all the pasta in the bowl. I found it interesting that the waitress didn't ask why most of my dinner was still in the bowl. The fish was delicious but the pasta sauce tasted like a bottle I'd buy at Costco. Or a can of pasta sauce for that matter. Once I ate the fish I could barely eat any pasta as the sauce was so awful. So I left most of it in the bowl. I was hungry a hour or so later.
The noise level made it impossible to talk. We were in the semi-circle seat near the back which I thought might be good, but we had to yell at each other all evening. I know you are trying to attract a younger crowd to party, but what about having a room dedicated to those who love to go out to eat AND talk to friends.
My sister loved her steak and my husband loved his ribs just so you don't think I don't have perspective. Those menu items get a 10/10. Mine gets a 1/10.
I had a great time having the half off wine with my friend!
Really bad service the server forgot about some orders and drinks and when we let them know they gave us too much attitude that was so unprofessional.
My husband and i absolutely loved our dinner here tonight. Ahi Tuna salad, ribs, steak & sushi, sticky toffee pudding, margaritas and an IPA beer. Everything was outstanding!
Service was perfect and my meal? Wonderful . The best clam chowder
Great vibe, tasty appies and sweet happy hour specials. Definitely recommend as a place where you can actually have a conversation with those at your table. The music was at a perfect level.
By test kitchen do they mean that is where they test new staff. Because the service was absolutely horrendous. Or does it mean they test how badly they could treat guests before they get upset. Three of our 10 water glasses had chips in them and even slightly nicked one of our friends' lips. And then two wine glasses we got were cracked and when our friend complained about after noticing half way through her wine the server took it away and brought a fresh glass in which she poured the remaining wine. Not even a fresh pour of wine. Instead re serving wine with possible glass in it. The food was also sub standard. And overall responsiveness was not existent. You gotta love that an automatic gratuity of 18% was added on to the bill so we had no choice but to over top a terrible experience.
Good location, good food, reasonable price, friendly & good service, most delicious NY Cheese cake. The only thing to complain was the music too loudly as the restaurant is very closed to the Bar.
Although the food was good, service was below our expectations. Our server spoke too quickly and quietly and didn’t wait for an answer when asking us questions. It actually wasn’t surprising that she got one of our guest’s orders wrong, even after she asked twice to confirm the meal selection. She wasn’t paying attention; in too much of a hurry. Not sure we’d try again when we’re in town the next time. Too bad, the location is great!
We were actually here Friday night before the football game too, and service was terrible then as well. Different server. We had hoped it would be better for our Sunday visit.
Your food is good. Service doesn’t match.
First time at this restaurant and our waiters made it a great happy hour for me and my girls! The What Cha Ma Call It red wine is pretty good, the spinach cheese dip was AMAZING, and the chicken tacos were pretty good too. Avocado toast was a so-so for me, the flavour of the hot sauce overpowered everything else, and the toast itself seemed a tad stale. All in all I would go back for happy hour!
Good food, good value, mediocre service. Server forgot three things, then took 5 to 10 minutes to get back to us on each one. Food was good, wine/drinks were good. Sushi was overkill...sriracha mayo on EVERY kind of sushi...really? Rest of the food was good, our server was nice but appeared unable to get anything right the first time.
Vacationing in Vancouver; Earl's Kitchen showed up on OpenTable and was close to our hotel so decided to take a quick walk for Saturday Brunch. Caesar's were wonderful (enjoyed two) - both in taste and presentation; order the two egg brunch which also included crispy bacon, crispy potatoes, and grilled tomato; totally enjoyed the "crispy;" seasoning was just right; kindly reconsider taking this option off the menu, it was the perfect brunch meal.
I had the prawn and scallop pasta and it was amazing. It's only available right now at the Test Kitchen location but I hope it makes the permanent menu. The 4 of us all had great meals and the happy hour wine was delicious and it was a well priced dinner overall. Great service also...
I quite like Earls as I find the quality and service consistently good, and this generally was no exception. In this case, I had booked in for my brother's birthday. Twelve people were coming, and they said they could accommodate us. We were expecting a section with tables and chairs, but we were given two back-to-back booths. This meant about 4 people were segregated from the larger party. We all ended up squishing together, so no one was left out. If they had told us this was what was available, we could looked elsewhere. It wasn't the most comfortable experience, but apart from that everything was fine.
My experience at the Earls Test Kitchen was less than satisfactory. Our service was extremely poor, our server missed taking one of our party's orders and had to be waved back, we were not asked if we wanted a second drink, and had to ask for water multiple times. The food was good, but we had to send one of the meals back because it was cold.
We were a group with 20 people, I know it's hard with so much people ... But unfortunately they bring us the appetizer and the entree as the same time. So it was a little bit confusing and my steak was cold ... Told them and got a new one and for the compensation, I got a salad for free.
But the waitress was really nice and kind, she apologizes few times and made a good service.
We had dinner twice this week at Earl's while on vacation in Vancouver. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. That's why we returned. Service was friendly, but a bit slow because of being so busy. The biggest negative was the noise level - deafening! Even in the "quieter" main dining area. Recommend the salmon, cheeseburger, and clam chowder!
Found this on Trip Advisor and was excited to dine here after reading the reviews.
Iwent to pick up my utensils and all had water spots on them and some were dirty. First turn off- however I wanted to look past that.
30 mins from that time our actual entrees came out and WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I had specifically asked if there were any onions in the warm potato salad, she replied no. She also went to the back to confirm that there were no onions, however when I got my food, they "sprinkled" green onions all over it. I also ordered the full rack of ribs along with the cajun chicken and was not given what I ordered. A member of my party offered to buy me a drink and I was recommended the Moscow Mule. It tasted like soda water and lime with rimmed ginger and filled with ice. she offered me a new drink but I refused.
All while another member of my party ordered the peppercorn steak, in which you have to pay 2 bucks extra for, even if your swapping out the sauces. They brought the food out with slivered almonds, which nowhere on the menu stated that this was in the ingredients list. Mind you, this is an hour and a half into our dinner service. We were told that it would take 10-13 minutes for a re-fire. It ended up taking more the 27 minutes. We were asked if we wanted something in the meantime and the guest ordered sweet potato fries, in which she never receive. It took till the end of service to receive a sprite. terrible!!
Finally we asked for the bill and they had the audacity to charge me for the watered down drink that was still on the table. An extra sirloin steak meal, that was a replacement for the first order that came with dirty utensils and crusty mashed potatoes. Full price on the re-fire of food (steak) which was 20% of fat. What a nightmare this was. I also only noticed this after I paid a 200 bill. This was a disaster and not even close to what I expected. My advice is to choose wisely!
Really good happy hour. Portions are larger than other Earls locations. Tacos were almost a meal. Totally worth coming here before or after a movie or if you are staying in a hotel close by. A lot etter than others in the area
Very good food. Good ambient
We held a going away lunch for one of our co-op students and I thought it went really well. Initially we were seated in space that was not big enough to accommodate our group so we asked be to moved. Your team of staff moved us to a bigger table and it worked out great. Food was very good. Everyone was happy with their lunch. All meals arrived at the same time as ordered without issue.
Came for the Happy hour, good tasty food and service. As usual good dining experience with Earls.
