Good experience
I've been to a lot of Earls, but this one was a real dissappointment. The service was good enough, but the food was terrible. The Cajun chicken sandwich barely had any chicken in it, but half an inch of lettuce and three slices of tomato. It was obvious they were padding it out, as I've had this sando a lot and it's always much thicker with meat. The Caesar salad was also really watery.
We were there for happy hour but they didn't hold back on taste and portion. Love their Margherita Pizza !
We made a reservation on Open Table, and we were promptly seated. We requested a table away from the kitchen, and they politely accommodated us. Our server was attentive, and the wait for service and for our meal was appropriate. He asked our opinion about a new item on the menu, and he appeared genuinely interested in our comments. The restaurant is noisy, but we expected this. The appetizer Italian bread and the other food portions were adequate or large. The Hunan chicken was a little bit oily, the vegetables tasted fresh, and the entrees were otherwise well prepared. The carrot cake for dessert was dry and tasted more like a spice cake, but this was a test item. Overall, we did not leave feeling that this was a spectacular experience, but it was fine. We remember our friendly waiter, and we were satisfied with our meal. We would return again for a casual meal.
Earls is always great for their food and ambiance. Will always go back of course. My only complaint this time was that I had made the effort to make a reservation and it seemed other couples randomly coming in were seated before us. We were there at 5:50, reservation for 6, and not seated until 6:15. Otherwise everything was great
Table and staff were prepared for our arrival during Happy Hour. Our waitress was helpful, fast and courteous. I would definitely book a table at Earl's again.
Delicious food, we had one of the test kitchen items (tofu) and it was great along with other items. Place was hopping on a Wednesday night. I'd go again.
Only thing is they screwed up on separating our bills ! This is the second time that's happened!
Our stagette started with dinner here and the staff were incredible! Kayla was our server and she was attentive to our very large group. The food was delicious and it all came out at the same time, there were no empty glasses and everyone raved about how well Earls handled such a large group because it can be demanding. My compliments to the entire team, and thank you for starting our amazing night off right!! I would recommend anyone to book an event or just have dinner here!!
It was great. We had a big group and they did well. Thanks so much
A little bit too loud , food very good , service top
Consistently good. Really enjoy the large party seating arrangements. Always a treat to try something new here.
We reserved dinner on a Friday night for 18 people to celebrate my daughter's 19th Birthday and it was FUN & festive with great food! The bartender bought Amy her first drink, Nick the waiter was FAB and Management went over and above by bringing in a special vegan dessert for the birthday girl!!! Thanks to ALL for a FAB night!!!
Great atmosphere and service. Only downfall was they couldn’t accommodate our big group so we had to be split in to two tables
Always a great time at Earls
Food was great. Service was great. Good value. Steak was over cooked.
Had an excellent night catching up with friends. Service was great, food was excellent.
I’m a quite a regular at this Earls as my friend and I always go to the theatre next door after dinner. Last Friday the hostess showed me to a small booth when I asked if I could get a longer booth but she said that one was reserved (well I made a reservation too). I asked because my friend’s big and when we sat at the small booth, one-third of her body was kinda hanging out. Later on, I noticed that longer booth was filled with two people only. Quite a disappointment!!
We had to ask for the server to assist us a few times (to take our order, get us some water and get the bill).
The food was fantastic.
Earls is known for a varied menu, good drinks selection, friendly service and a clean environment and this visit was no different.
Whilst our server was plenty friendly, one of the 2 pizzas ordered did not meet their own standards so did not get delivered with the rest of the food. To me, this represented good customer service because;
- the kitchen used their own quality control
- we were informed of the actual problem, rather than being fobbed off
- we got to share a hot pizza and then share another hot pizza (win win)
- they comp'd us a round of drinks
... ergo, good customer service.
We also visited frequently to ensure we were good for drinks, but not so frequently that it became annoying/tiresome.
I've been coming to this Earls for many years when in town and it has never let me down.
I made a reservation for last Saturday night, and had such a lovely time. The drinks were delicious and my friends really loved their meals. I had ordered a dish that arrived with the chicken burnt, which was disappointing because it looked great- buuut was burnt. When the waitress came by to check in on our meals, she immediately recognized the issue. She didn't make me feel bad, and brought me shrimp to replace the chicken, and she didn't charge me for the dish or my replacement protein. It was handled so well! I'm not sure if this is what you'd usually advise your waitresses and waiters to do, but it was honestly some of the best customer service I've ever had in restaurants. I work in the customer service industry and I was so, so impressed. I wasn't expecting to have my meal comped like that, but her doing so- without even telling me- was so thoughtful and so appreciated. I'm already planning to come back because I was so impressed by the service. I'll always make reservations for dinner here before nights at the theatre. Thank-you!
The worst service I’ve had in a long long time. Ruined our outing and we will never be back.
Looooove the test kitchen! Love the staff. Have had great food, great service - and quick - every time we come, and for that we keep coming back.
The music was a just a little too loud for easy conversation (we were there at 9pm) but otherwise the food and service were good. It was super-conveniently located near my dinner guest's downtown hotel. We were running late but it was easy to keep updating our reservation time through OpenTable.
Changing a reservation on opentable is a bit hard and inconvienient but when I called Earls, they were super kind and accommodating to add more guests to the table. The food was great, our server was so nice, and a worker in the back even gave us free cake since it was my birthday! Surprisingly it was my first time at Earls (usually cactus club is my first choice) but after this experience, I believe Earls will be my go-to place for special occasions! Highly recommended.
I felt like the meal was a good time and that the Test Kitchen location is great for large groups. However, I also felt that the booking system is vague. I ordered a reservation for 12 and got two separate tables, which didn't really line up with what I was hoping for (a big table for 12 that could make all invited feel welcome).
When we arrived our reservation somehow had been lost in the system. It was handled very well and we were seated promptly. We both tried the new Coconut Mint Margaritas which were so tasty we had a second. I ordered steak with peppercorn sauce and my friend ordered steak and lobster. Both steaks were done as we had asked and tasted great.
The restaurant was completely full with a wait but you’d never know with the quality of service we received. Great meal and overall dining experience. The place is a little loud but that would be my only negative comment.
Had a great brunch experience with some friends and family. Always great service and no line ups. Would definitely recommend Earls for a group get together!
Love the Happy hour selection ! A must before a movie !
The appy came with the meals a little too quick and was dropped by another serveur with attitude. Our serveur was very nice though and apologized.
Had a lot of food shortage and alcohol also, on a busy Saturday.
Always love coming here.
Our server was fantastic and so was the service! :)
I really enjoyed dining here and I enjoyed my evening here. I liked the corner booth table that we were given.
I can't be happier with the new brunch happy hour that Earls is now offering! For ~$15 (incl. tip) you can get a good sized brunch dish and a drink which is an incredible deal!
Their breakfast potatoes are to die for, they're the perfect balance of crispy and fluffy.
Service was quick and super friendly, I'll be going again next weekend!
Food Is good in terms of quality and value. Atmosphere is lively. Although the servers are friendly, drinks and food take a long time to make it to the table. If your pressed for time I would recommend going elsewhere.
Earl’s always has good food, but we came to the rest kitchen for something unique. Unfortunately the specialty drinks were unavailable, but the standard menu food was excellent and service top notch
Came for Dine out Vancouver. Great deal for appetizer, steak and favorite sticky toffee dessert.
The service was on the slower side, could have been better. It was difficult to get the server's attention.
Food was good but it took about 40 min to get 2 pretty simple entrees (a salad and one of the Dine Out Pasta dishes). The server was great (pleasant, attentive) but we hadn’t counted on a simple meal taking more than 1.5 hrs after a movie next door. And it wasn’t particularly busy when we were waiting for the dishes.
Went on a Saturday evening for Dine-Out Vancouver for a special occasion with my daughter. The staff went out of their way to make it special for her. The staff was very friendly and we can't wait to go back. The steak was outstanding and the desserts far too addicting!
