East is East Chai Lounge - Main Street
As evening descends upon the vibrant city of Vancouver, Chai Lounge comes to life like the courts of the eastern Raja's. Imagine a warm, dreamy and visually arresting venue where global sounds cascade the room over the din of lively conversations. Spicy scents waft from the kitchen followed by an abundance of delicious trans-himalayan cuisine.
Chai Lounge is our landmark location. There is no place like it in Vancouver, and visitors from near and far marvel at the ornate carpets, ceiling mandala's, and the nature-inspired furnishings.
The large central stage features a rotating line-up of world class musicians and dancers. We ask for a small patronage fee of $3 per person which goes to support all the live local music at East is East. Because we are very busy we hold tables for 2 hours. We look forward to serving you.
Thank you so much! We really enjoyed our Chai feasts and Eastern Ecstasy dessert. The service was outstanding and it was also a treat to experience the harpist.
Food was good, I got the lamb curry however it was lukewarm and not hot so had them heat it up. Also had a Persian salad which I liked. Cute decorations and they give you the reso for 2 hours so did not feel rushed.
This place even smells delicious! Food is amazing, music was super and the decor completes the transportation to another world.
amazing dinner as usual. My Syrian friend really enjoyed the ambience and food.
Love the food and the restaurant. Our group usually comes in at 1130 or 1145 and I find it a bit cold. Any possibility of turning up the heat?
Started to recommend... - wonderful time spent with incredible highest artistic level of live music!
Food was ok but roti was hard and greasy. Portions were small for the price. There was a problem with the billing, an item ordered was not served, waitress was told before the check and it wasn’t removed, had to ask a second time. Disappointing overall.
Lots of entertainment and character comes with this fun, delicious meal!!!
I love this place! The food is superb, the ambiance is divine and the performance is excellent. The service was fantastic and I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday! Thanks East is East for making my birthday so memorable 😊🙏❤️
Extremely disappointed with quality of the food this time. First time I had a dinner at East in East last year and the food was delicious. Now I don't know what happen but it is just bad.
We ordered many different varieties as I was intending to impress my friend with this charming place and when food started to arrive it was one disappointment after another.
awesome place, service so great the servers are all so friendly love it! And the chai latte the best of my life!
Outstanding on all levels. Flavourful delights! Ideal setting with background music that's always a delight.
Great ambiance, super service, delicious food and great live music
The food was good, the chairs terribly uncomfortable, the service could have been faster, but I will go back.
Thank you for the wonderful night - ambiance, food, service and the music - the highest level of art performed by the artists led and inspired by violin Maestro Cercel!
East is East is definitely a unique place to dine.
Great vegan and gluten free options . Staff very knowledgeable and very friendly
Amazing food, ambiance and service! Love going to this place
Amazing service, amazing food! Everyone was super lovely, and our server was super on top of everything. Had a great time and excited to come back!
My friend ordered a salmon roti and was served a chicken one. The waitress argued with her that is was salmon - good customer service is “The customer is always right” so not exactly the correct response
Everything was lovely. The only thing we’re the chairs they are not comfortable
Great servers and great food. Can’t ask for much more than that.
I LOVE this place! The ambience is so exotic; all Persian rugs, sea salt walls and cool lighting, that you feel like you’re on a vacation thousands of kms away. The servers are really chill, friendly and efficient. The menu offers reasonably priced, familiar favourites like chai, hummus and wraps etc., but also things like curried mango squash on lentil rice with 3 sauces. Vegans and gluten free folks will smile at the menu options too. Yum! I can’t wait to go back, this time at night, as for a $3 cover fee, they have live sitar music.
Loved the soy chai latte & masala prawns. Service was excellent & I love the Indian ambience.
Excellent tasty and mouthwatering fare served with a smile amid a very atmospheric setting. Will definitely return soon
Delicious food and the best ginger chai I've had in the world. I like how they have vegan options.
Tried a few wraps, mango prawns, and a feast. Great that not everyone at the table has to order the feast. Of course, everyone else ordered an entree but they were also able to take a bite of the feast to sample the flavours. Lots of options for our vegan guest too. Everything we tried was well prepared. Service was fantastic from the chai sample greeting to helping us order, and allowing us to linger a bit on a slow night. Great space. Was expensive for the portion size. Also $3/person "patronage fee" seemed a bit much as we weren't there for the musical trio. Lots of meter parking in the front, and free if you're lucky parking on side streets.
Wonderful family meal and birthday celebration! Complimentary Birthday dessert and chorus....thank you!!🙏🏻
We had a reservation, and I got there 15 min prior, but we were kept waiting 15min AFTER our reservation. I was asked 1)when I made the reservation 2)at the confirmation of the reservation 3)at the restaurant (three times!) if it was understood that we were to pay 3 dollars per adult for the performers, and only stay at our table a max of 2hrs (I guess for turnaround/later reservations?). The restaurant was pretty empty by the end of our reservation so it was not an issue for us to have another drink and linger, but the service slowed way down and I had no water offered after dinner and we had to go in search of our server for our bill. The ambience was great! The wood bench, very uncomfortable, but I know that about East is East so I took a pillow as a seat. The foot was less than stellar...much better at the Broadway location.
always incredible food, service and atmosphere. a little pricy but 100% worth every penny! especially if you order the chai feast. love how many vegan/vegetarian options there are as well:)
Always great place to be with friend. Love the atmosphere and the great energy .
We also ask for a better table to see the show and our server organised the transfer very smoothly .
The atmosphere is fun, good is incredible, but the service was lacking.
With reservations, there were 4 servers/hostesses at the front but it took quite a while to even be acknowledged, let alone seated. They seemed really unorganized.
Where the service lacked, the food made up for it! Bolani was delicious, as was the prawn masala. Chicken kebabs were great!
Best to get a table in the middle closer to the stage. We could not see the stage from our table that was located on a heavy traffic hallway. Lots of busgirls racing up and down the isle with no waitress in sight. The lamb curry was excellent. The Quinoa salad a bit dry. Overall a pleasant evening but I would be more picky about where to sit next time.
The Chai Feast is amazing and worth the value. The only issue that we experienced was that when I booked they called to confirm that there would be live music, which is wonderful, however my dad is a bit hard of hearing and we wanted to visit so we requested to be seated as far away as possible which said we would be on the opposite side. When we arrived we were seated right next to the live music and all other tables on the opposite side were unfortunately taken. We still had a lovely time and enjoyed the music however it was a bit difficult to hear each other especially for my dad.
The food and the service were great. Live music and dancing were way more than expected. I had a very good time celebrating my birthday with my friends here.
This was our first time here (first time visiting Vancouver) and we had an amazing time! We did the Chai feast which was an incredible value for money, AYCE style approach. Everything was absolutely delicious and we were able to truly feast on a fully vegan meal. Left the restaurant absolutely stuffed!! The atmosphere was very unique, super cozy and felt like we were swept away somewhere in an eastern country. Very much enjoyed the live performances and overall vibe of the restaurant. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.
This place is excellent! Probably my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. Love it! The music is lovely and not to load so you can easily enjoy conversation with a friend or soak up the music as you like. It is a little expensive ($35 each plus drinks, cover, etc.) but I will definitely go again!
Great food and value for your money. The seats are uncomfortable with benches and hard chairs. Nice atmosphere though.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at East is East. Our group of 5 included 2 vegans and 1 person with an extreme gluten allergy, and we all ate safely and with great pleasure. The flavors of the foods were amazing, and the portions were adequate to large. In addition, we were entertained by flamenco musicians and dancers during most of our 2 hour visit for only $3/person. The show was amazing! All in all, every member of our group was thrilled with the experience. Highly recommend this restaurant!
The music was super fun and belly dancing was amazing. The food was auch a great culinary blend of regions. Outstanding.
