Sat at the zashiki section. The ambiance doesn't lift the mood. Started with sake sangria and ordered the $55/person set menu. The food quality and quantity is sufficient. There are sinews in the fish sashimi served. The prawn sashimi isn't bad but not sweet. And especially that this is Vancouver and it's spot prawns season, it's disappointing. The Wagyu steak was most disappointing. Plating was not eye catching. The steak does not have the flavor, texture and melting characteristics of American, Australian and definitely not Japanese Wagyu . The uni crab pasta was weakly flavored and it was not sauced enough. I would not particularly recommend this Izakaya. It just doesn't have any Izakaya vibe nor do the staff have the Izakaya spirit.

It was a terrible experience not because only for the food (portion and taste wise) but also the NOT attentive service. For few times, the order of dishes came wrong when we wondered and asked, the manager said he will look into it. Never improved. There are 9 different dishes which I believe the chef designed them to present them in this order for a reason and that's how usually restaurant shows its presentation. The food portion was terribly small. I really thought it was so little for 1 person, then we found out that was for 2 people. It's even smaller than other restaurant's kids menu. For example for ebi mayo, each person get ONE ebi and for edamame, you get ard 4 tiny ones each. The last carbonara made us wait half an hour to arrive, we were at one point gonna just pay and go. We couldn't find our waitress (who is very nice, also the manager was actually nice too) so we tried to talk to a guy with glasses. Terrible waitor, don't think he could be the manager. Basically ignored me when I ask him for help. (hoping to ask about the carbonara) The food quality is not the best, but NOT worth $55 for sure. Really should have just gone to gyu-kaku downstairs for better value and service. My bad luck to pick a restaurant to try on an anniversary. When I booked through opentable, the menu says $50 (now still says $50) but it's $55 guess the owner never bothered to update for a reason. ( I mentioned to them when I called to confirm my reservation) Overall, a bad experience about the food (the worst portion) and service (the glasses guy looks mad all the time, no smile) Will not recommand to any of my family nor friends, and we won't go back anymore! PS: I am a real customer and have all the pictures of food if you are interested in knowing more of our experience. I'm just surprised how some ppl left perfect experience there, which looks unreal to me. Noted there are so many ppl who got paid to write reviews nowadays we couldn't trust all the reviews now.

The decor of the restaurant is very unique. I went with a friend to try out their family style Izakaya, we opt for the $35 traditional menu. The whole menu is not bad some items were more tasty than others and also some lack flavour. Service is attentive and came back many time to refill our glasses of water and taking empty plates away.

We had the Izakaya menu: nicely diverse selection of foods, appropriate quantity and beautifully prepared and presented. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly.

We had eaten here about 4 months ago and it was amazing. Not so much this time. Service was slow and we were largely ignored. The courses were not evenly spaced. Some took a long time. They were not particularly busy so not sure what the issues are. We left disappointed.
