I love El Pocho the food is amazing and the service is friendly and attentive. The patio is gorgeous and the drinks are wonderful
I have lived in this city for years and only just found this place after a friend recommended. El Pocho is so awesome! The drinks are outstanding and the food is unbelievable. Fresh ingredients and gluten free, these dishes will not disappoint. And you HAVE to get the churros for dessert - they will blow your mind!
The experience overall was positive. The only issue was the food. While it was cooked perfectly...of the 4 dishes I tried only one had very nice flavor. The other 3 were quite bland.
Service was very slow
Best in the city. I have never been disappointed. Great value.
Amazing! So dang delicious- real gem. It’s so hard to find well made food that’s celiac friendly, but this place is top notch. The drinks, appetizers, meal, service, dessert, atmosphere- all of it was excellent. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in town.
Wonderful, reasonably priced food with great ambience inside and a nice patio outside. Yummy tacos and sangria. Off the main drag so feels like part of the neighbourhood. Worth trying!
Food was fantastic and my wife, who is gluten-free, was ecstatic to have full choice of the menu and churros for dessert. Great service. Nice to have a small patio in the city that isn’t on a busy road...they are tucked in a bit from Bathurst. Patio is a bit tight...others had to stand up so we could leave our table but small issue given the delicious food.
Overall, had a good experience here. Made the reservation (8:45pm), but unfortunately was told when we got there that they don't do reservations for the patio. Thankfully there was a free table for us to snag. Patio was full, so service was a bit slow since there were only 25-30 people total, but the food came out nice and hot. Tried a couple of different cocktails and they were tasty. String lighting created a very cute atmosphere for a quaint date night. As they are in a residential neighbourhood, the patio did close at midnight. I'd go here again for cocktails and sharing tacos, and would recommend it for a nice date night.
This place has amazing flavour and great service. Highly recommend.
Such a wonderful restaurant - amazing food, great prices, friendly staff, lovely ambiance.
The food here is so delicious and it is such a hidden gem.
This is our 4th time there and it never ceases to be outstanding. Good value, good food. Highly recommend it.
Creative, delicious tacos, and other authentic and current Mexican / Californian menu items. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable service. On-draft craft beer choices from Muskoka Brewery. Fun, umbrella-covered, street-level patio on quiet street just off Bathurst. Very reasonable pricing.
I am Celiac and a huge foodie so I definitely appreciated this place being fully gluten free. My server was a bubbly blonde and was amazing! My friend and I had some fruity cocktails, the veggie fries and the chicken tacos. Both of the dishes were delicious and packed the right amount of heat. The only downside for me is that they were out of churros at the time we went and the other dessert offered wasn't tasty. I will be back to try more items at the brunch soon hopefully :)!
Great find, very interesting menu, excellent food, lovely ambiance at a very reasonable price. It’s on my go to list in the neighbourhood for a delicious Mexican meal any time.
Delicious great service fabulous place for celiacs. My daughter who is 19 had her first churro, what a treat!!
Can be a bit slow because there is only one server for the restaurant, but the food and drink is so so so worth the wait.
Loved the atmosphere at this place and the food was amazing!!!!!! Would for sure return!!!
A hidden gem with incredible food
We had an out of town guest who wanted to see the “real” neighbourhood. el Pocho Antojitos — or as she dubbed it, El Pocket — was the perfect dinning in the ‘hood experience. There’s Nothing like it in Calgary, apparently.
We asked the staff to select 5 dishes for us which provided a casual, impromptu tasting menu. We savoured it all with local beers. Thank you for your hospitality.
Amazing food and friendly staff. Very casual, great value. Unbelievable fish tacos.
Great Mexican food, killer cocktails.
El Pocho is welcoming and relaxed. The food is delicious!!! It was a real treat to be able to eat everything on the menu.
El Pocho consistently provides exceptional food and drink with warm service and a comfortable atmosphere. I really appreciate that they run a gluten free kitchen, as people close to me have Celiac disease. It doesn’t seem to limit them though, Mexican cuisine is a great fit for gluten free options. They even pull off some really delicious desserts, with the churros being the mainstay.
We went to El Pocho as a group of three, two of us started with their drink special which was a hibiscus margarita, it was delicious! We then had chips, guac & salsa verde. The chips were fresh out of the fryer and oh so crisp. We then shared a variety of tacos, the fried avocado ones, the veggie tostadas, the fish ones, and the special which was a beef. My favourites were the fish tacos and the veggie tostadas! The tacos are fun for sharing because they come in sets of 2. We sat out on the patio because it was a nice afternoon, and the service with Jill was fantastic. I will definitely be back, maybe I'll try the brunch next time!
Great food I will keep coming back. Celiac dream come true gf menu.
My boyfriend and I had breakfast at El Pocho on a quiet Saturday morning. The chef and the hostess were absolutely lovely and provided recommendations for the meals we were looking for. The atmosphere is very quaint and relaxed. You must try the mocha - the Mexican hot chocolate mix in the mocha was absolutely amazing!
We went for Cinco de Mayo, expected more offers in terms of food and drinks but only Tequila. Food was decent but pricey for the portions. Best to go in a small group
My wife and I went out to El Pocho for cinco de mayo and were looking specifically for a patio that was casual, fun but with good food. As my wife is vegetarian, we struggle to find places that we both enjoy and are different. The El Pocho did not disappoint. From the call before our reservation time to enquire if we wanted lunch or the dinner menu due to our arrival time, to the authentic drinks and food, it was perfect for a warm Toronto afternoon.
We will be back for sure, maybe next week!
Fantastic find. The service was attentive and friendly. The music was great. The food was even better. El Pocho is a great find. I cannot wait to return and sit outside.
Food was average, ambiance was very dark. The restaurant doesn't have very good lighting so if you're looking for a place where you can see the people you're dining with, I'd go somewhere else. Overall, I think there's better Mexican options in the city.
Great experience, expensive but zero errors with orders. Drinks were strong but not over powering and tasted like they should. Small portions but very tasty. Fresh ingredients, quality showed. Food temp was hot when got to table, perfect. Desert portion was generous and again tasty.
Great flavours. Interesting combinations of ingredients and sauces - such as the Fried Avocado.
Server was so friendly ! I actually thought she was the owner with how much care and love she had for the business
This restaurant is a hidden gem, one of my top favourites now for tacos, and I thought was better than some of the other popular Toronto spots like the Playa Cabana chain or Grand Electric. ALSO, for people with gluten sensitivities, the taco menu is gluten-free because they use corn tortillas.
Went here on a Saturday night for dinner for 2. I read the previous reviews about the size of the space, which is really small inside so definitely make reservations.
The food was great, we had various tacos and beer, including the barbacoa beef (highly recommend), fish, vegetarian tostada, and (daily special) chicken tostada. They definitely fill up the tacos with fillings and toppings, I was happy with the portion sizes, especially because I like healthy and fresh foods so there was a balanced meat to fresh veggie topping ratio.
It was great value for the price. It is the standard taco price in downtown Toronto (working out to $4.5+ per taco/tostada), and we had 4 tacos/tostadas each, which was enough to satisfy our appetites.
The service was amazing! We were 15 minutes late for our reservation but I had called to let them know we were stuff in traffic and they were kind enough to still hold our table. Our server was really friendly and attentive. The service was fast. It was a pleasant experience. Would definitely come back and recommend to others.
Very authentic tastes and ambience. Cozy on a cold winter night. Tacos are dominant on the menu and really deliver...they are juicy and generous with tasty ingredients. Lots of good-sounding drinks on the list, we had craft beer with the nicely spicy dishes.
We definitely will return in warmer weather to take advantage of the outdoor patio. My daughter the UofT engineering student says she will take her friends and classmates for authentic Mexican and, of course, beer.
Waitress was AmaZing and we will be coming back!!! Only thing I would add is hot sauce. One you guys have is not spicy at all. So update hot sauce pleaseeee...we will be back!
Took my daughter to El Pocho after a day of shopping in Toronto. The food was incredible and the service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be coming back.
Loved this place! Definitely going back.
One would do well to book given the small size of the premises.
