Creative, delicious tacos, and other authentic and current Mexican / Californian menu items. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable service. On-draft craft beer choices from Muskoka Brewery. Fun, umbrella-covered, street-level patio on quiet street just off Bathurst. Very reasonable pricing.

I am Celiac and a huge foodie so I definitely appreciated this place being fully gluten free. My server was a bubbly blonde and was amazing! My friend and I had some fruity cocktails, the veggie fries and the chicken tacos. Both of the dishes were delicious and packed the right amount of heat. The only downside for me is that they were out of churros at the time we went and the other dessert offered wasn't tasty. I will be back to try more items at the brunch soon hopefully :)!

We had an out of town guest who wanted to see the “real” neighbourhood. el Pocho Antojitos — or as she dubbed it, El Pocket — was the perfect dinning in the ‘hood experience. There’s Nothing like it in Calgary, apparently.
We asked the staff to select 5 dishes for us which provided a casual, impromptu tasting menu. We savoured it all with local beers. Thank you for your hospitality.

El Pocho consistently provides exceptional food and drink with warm service and a comfortable atmosphere. I really appreciate that they run a gluten free kitchen, as people close to me have Celiac disease. It doesn’t seem to limit them though, Mexican cuisine is a great fit for gluten free options. They even pull off some really delicious desserts, with the churros being the mainstay.

We went to El Pocho as a group of three, two of us started with their drink special which was a hibiscus margarita, it was delicious! We then had chips, guac & salsa verde. The chips were fresh out of the fryer and oh so crisp. We then shared a variety of tacos, the fried avocado ones, the veggie tostadas, the fish ones, and the special which was a beef. My favourites were the fish tacos and the veggie tostadas! The tacos are fun for sharing because they come in sets of 2. We sat out on the patio because it was a nice afternoon, and the service with Jill was fantastic. I will definitely be back, maybe I'll try the brunch next time!

My boyfriend and I had breakfast at El Pocho on a quiet Saturday morning. The chef and the hostess were absolutely lovely and provided recommendations for the meals we were looking for. The atmosphere is very quaint and relaxed. You must try the mocha - the Mexican hot chocolate mix in the mocha was absolutely amazing!

My wife and I went out to El Pocho for cinco de mayo and were looking specifically for a patio that was casual, fun but with good food. As my wife is vegetarian, we struggle to find places that we both enjoy and are different. The El Pocho did not disappoint. From the call before our reservation time to enquire if we wanted lunch or the dinner menu due to our arrival time, to the authentic drinks and food, it was perfect for a warm Toronto afternoon.

We will be back for sure, maybe next week!

Food was average, ambiance was very dark. The restaurant doesn't have very good lighting so if you're looking for a place where you can see the people you're dining with, I'd go somewhere else. Overall, I think there's better Mexican options in the city.

This restaurant is a hidden gem, one of my top favourites now for tacos, and I thought was better than some of the other popular Toronto spots like the Playa Cabana chain or Grand Electric. ALSO, for people with gluten sensitivities, the taco menu is gluten-free because they use corn tortillas.

Went here on a Saturday night for dinner for 2. I read the previous reviews about the size of the space, which is really small inside so definitely make reservations.

The food was great, we had various tacos and beer, including the barbacoa beef (highly recommend), fish, vegetarian tostada, and (daily special) chicken tostada. They definitely fill up the tacos with fillings and toppings, I was happy with the portion sizes, especially because I like healthy and fresh foods so there was a balanced meat to fresh veggie topping ratio.

It was great value for the price. It is the standard taco price in downtown Toronto (working out to $4.5+ per taco/tostada), and we had 4 tacos/tostadas each, which was enough to satisfy our appetites.

The service was amazing! We were 15 minutes late for our reservation but I had called to let them know we were stuff in traffic and they were kind enough to still hold our table. Our server was really friendly and attentive. The service was fast. It was a pleasant experience. Would definitely come back and recommend to others.

Very authentic tastes and ambience. Cozy on a cold winter night. Tacos are dominant on the menu and really deliver...they are juicy and generous with tasty ingredients. Lots of good-sounding drinks on the list, we had craft beer with the nicely spicy dishes.

We definitely will return in warmer weather to take advantage of the outdoor patio. My daughter the UofT engineering student says she will take her friends and classmates for authentic Mexican and, of course, beer.

I've been to El Pocho many times for brunch on the patio and always enjoy it. This time I booked a group of 8 friends for a Holiday Party. They provided us with a tasting menu for $30 per person and it was simply perfect! The food was delicious as always and was well paced throughout the evening. We got to try so many different dishes, including dessert, and they were able to accommodate our Vegetarians with ease. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and our server was really sweet and attentive. I would definitely book again for a group event and will absolutely be back for brunch! Thank you El Pocho for contributing to a memorable Holiday Party!!

We arrived to an empty restaurant which filled up about an hour later. The food came in quite soon after we ordered it, which was good as we were starving! The waitress said that everything was meant for sharing, but the portions were too small for this to happen comfortably. The place was quite dark, so reading the menu was a bit of a challenge - we had to use our phones! The drinks were okay...nothing extraordinary. The margarita was the smallest one I've ever seen! I liked the rustic ambience though. We all thought it was a bit pricey, especially as we left the restaurant still quite hungry, having dropped nearly $200! I will give them another try though. I think they're still trying things out. I wish them well.

Despite Toronto being a big city, it is still somewhat difficult to find a dedicated gluten free restaurant where there is no risk of cross contamination. We were fortunate to find El Pocho, particularly on a holiday weekend. The food was excellent, we experienced many of the available menu choices, and overall it was a very pleasant dining outing, and I would highly recommend this location to anyone.

A different spin on the traditional taco--that's El Pocho, one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Creative combinations to enjoy, although we like the regular menu much more than the group tasting menu (can't beat the chicken and fish tacos!)--but a great place and highly recommended.

Had a leisurely brunch out on the beautiful patio today. My girlfriend and I both had huevos rancheros and they were definitely a cut above: beautifully spiced and freshly prepared.

We gabbed out on the patio for two hours and never felt any pressure to go. The service was attentive but unobstrusive.

The rest of the brunch menu looked so good, we'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

This place is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood -- a definite step up from the ho-hum fared slapped on your plate for brunch at the usual suspects in the neighbourhood.

My first visit was an absolute pleasure. Took our Mom for a little birthday meal and decided to try this little gem out. For anyone gluten free, you need to eat here! The owners are gluten intolerant so consequently, everything except the beer is ok to eat...even the churros!!!
Cute little plates so you can try lots of options and all reasonably priced. I am not a tequila drinker but I decided to give the drink special a try. Dirty Paloma...me and tequila might be friends after all! :)
I recommend this place for a bit of mexican in a low key setting. Patio is super cute, inside is tiny so get over there before it snows!
