About Elephant & Castle - Toronto King St.
The old Union Jack behind the bar may be faded, but spirits are soarin’. And why not? This is after all, a laugh-out-loud, slap-on-the-back, greet-you-with-a-roar, English-style pub. Where the traditions are as rich and warm as the Shephard’s Pie. And where the stories flow as freely from the tongue as the beer flows from the taps.
Since 1977, Elephant & Castle has rolled out its well-worn welcome mat to anyone and everyone looking for a cracking good time. Whether that means cheering on your beloved team or chatting up your mates or simply savoring fresh made eats with a bit of jolly old England folded in here and there, this is the pub where you get your brit on.

Elephant & Castle - Toronto King St. Ratings and Reviews
Not only was the food good but our waiter - Guy - was outstanding...
he is a good ambassador for the E & C...
he's a keeper...
The staff was the highlight of our experience. We had our 6 year old granddaughter with us (pre theatre) and all of the staff were wonderful. The online reservation was simple and although we had to cancel 2 of our party due to traffic issues, they were very accommodating. The food was good too. All in all - a delightful experience.
It was a great lunch...food was very good. Service was satisfactory. The restaurant itself was very clean and well run!
Great place for dining before theatre and/or sporting event.
Elephant and Castle is always reliable in terms of menu options and quality of food. I have been there often. The restaurant was quite busy on Sunday as I am sure there were many diners heading to the nearby theatres after their lunch. Service can be a bit slow so give yourself plenty of time if you have some place to be. It is a pleasant atmosphere but it was extremely warm inside during our visit. I think the heat was still on even though it was warm and muggy outside. The server was pleasant and the food was good.
We went for lunch before the theatre. It's in a great location if you want to be close to the theatre. The service was good and the food came out in a timely manner. Everything we had was tasty. I would not hesitate to return.
Had lunch before theatre. Early reservation. Welcomed nicely. Seemed a little understaffed and not as prepared as they might for the bus load of people who arrived later. Waiter was excellent, apologized for slow service and gave a fee dessert. Can not remember his name.
We actually had lots of time because we were early. Certainly would return when back in the area. Good food and excellent server.
After waiting one and a half hours we did not receive out meals. As we had tickets for a play, we had to leave without eating any lunch. Very disappointing. We won’t be back.
Fantastic meal pre- show at Roy Thompson and still had a screen to watch the 1st period of the Leaf game.
Our first time at Elephant and Castle but won't be our last! Food was terrific, service fast and efficient and price was excellent.
Our lunch was very disappointing! We ordered drinks - one came and the rest didn’t. Asked our server and she said she would put the rest of drink order in. We still didn’t get them so we cancelled. Our food was so slow in coming and then was only luke warm. We asked to speak to manager and she said they were extremely busy and would give one free dessert. She apologized and took 25% of bill. We have been to E & C and it is often busy but we get much better service. Going to see a play next Sunday but will look for another place to eat.
We were there before our theatre reservation, the atmosphere was friendly and robust, it was a busy restaurant but did not lack in service, the food was delicious and we didn't have to wait long. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and i would go back again.
We waited forever for our order to be taken, we arrived at noon, there was lots of empty tables but it filled up quickly. Once they finally came over to take our orders it took forever to get them. I ordered calamari and it was the worst calamari I had ever had. Mostly batter crumbs! However, the rest of my group enjoyed their meal.
Very happy with everything . Waiter was very accommodating knowing we were off to the theatre. Food was great
We were having lunch prior to a musical matinee show on a very busy Wed. We were waited on quickly, food came quickly and meal was delicious and reasonable price. Even though restaurant was super busy, we never felt rushed or that table was needed. And only one block from the theatre to boot!
6 of us. Very busy because of theatre crowd. Well organized. Good service.
5 of us had no problem with the food. One who had Rueben thought it was too chewy.
Would return on another theatre day.
Great restaurant, great location and wonderful menu (hard to choose)
Good value for pub fare and beer. Service was very fast and attentive.
Reserved a table for 6 after our Come From Away show. Ambience and service are excellent .
Dinner choices are reasonable and priced right. We tried the fish/chips, steak/mushroom pie
and chicken pot pie. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
Unfortunately, the location is very busy with cars and traffic and it took me 39 minutes to go
3 km. from the parking lot back to the pub to pick up our friends. Too bad about that. I would
reconsider going there by public transit from now on.
We were not very happy with our server. Stood behind us to take our order and very hard to hear. Our table wobbled and I tried to level it without success. Teaspoon had food on it and had to be replaced.
Very good meal with friends before the theatre!
Very attentive staff & great food.
Eaten there several times before theatre date. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
We had a terrific, casual dinner at a decent price. Our server, Guy, was excellent.
Great menu, good selection with many varieties of things to choose from. It was a great location for after seeing Come From Away and seeing it with old friends and co-workers.
We chose Elephant & Castle for dinner prior to an 8:00 pm show at Royal Alexandra Theatre. It was very close by, I had been there before, and we like British pubs. We were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices, and we both really enjoyed our stuffed Yorkshire Pudding and drinks.
Staff were waiting for us with open arms. What a good sign!!!
Fabulous food and service. A great meal after the show.
Eight friends met there for lunch before the theatre. We were seated in a private area which was perfect for the occasion and served and out in a timely manner as we were attending the theatre. Good experience! Thanks.
Always good pub food with great curry choices and really awesome fries! Beer selection is ok but could use additional local craft beer choices to make this outstanding. Service was adequate but slow even for a not bust Sunday afternoon.
The issue we always have is the food not being hot enough. The Eggs Benedict was warm but not hot, although the potatoes were plenty hot. It seems that is the constant case when eating at your restaurant. We find the food tasty but never hot enough. If there were some way the kitchen could figure that out, it would be an amazing place to eat. In the past, we have ordered Chicken Pot Pie and at the time of ordering asked that it be hot. Still, we receive it warm in the middle. The waiting staff was friendly but we waited a long time for the food.
I just love this place!!! Anytime I’m downtown, I will always make a concerted effort to stop by for food, a Mexican Bulldog and people watching!!!
We were disappointed that our meals came to the table within a few minutes of receiving our appetizers, but otherwise it was a good meal.
Had the Bangers and Mash, very good. Nice glass of rose wine and a great catch up with a friend. Good service and reasonable prices.
Good comfort food. Service was good. Can recommend poutine and Mac and Cheese
We attended the National Geographic Society presentation at Roy Thomson following our lunch.. Very enjoyable
The venue is nice and spacious with nice lighting and cool throw back music. Our server was really friendly and quick. The drinks were delicious. The food was a little cold when served though
This was a post-matinee performance at The Royal Alexandra Theatre. It was quiet on arrival and filled up over the 90 minutes we were there. Service was quite good even though our server appeared to be inexperienced. She was friendly and helpful and service was quick. The food could have been a little hotter, but the flavour was there.
You will be surrounded by televisions showing sports of interest hoping you like the one selection provided. Price was reasonable, if slightly high, but this is a high rent district in the heart of the entertainment district, so to be expected.
All in all, recommended.
Ambience was very good. Service and quality of food was really good. Not much of a wait time. everything went well. In total very good experience.
Food & Service was very good prior to going the Royal Alex !!
Excellent service. Piping hot food. The Bread Pudding dessert is a must!
