"Even in Vancouver, where tacos have suddenly become the new sushi, Fayuca is not like any other Mexican restaurant." –Alexandra Gill, Globe & Mail
"Possibly the most interesting restaurant to land in Yaletown in the last decade." –Andrew Morrison, Scout Magazine
"It’s not Mexican food. But I felt it was Mexican enough to tweet out, ‘Best Mexican food in town.’" –Mia Stainsby, Vancouver Sun
Fusion receipes work, flavor and presentation was good. Why do we confuse gourmet with small portions? I believe the value was not necessary the best. if you offer cactus on a dish, please actually add enough of this ingredient to call it so. Tostada dish was described as two tostadas....finding halves was definitely a surprise.
Food was first class
Looked like they were reserving the place strictly with reservations ad many walk ins were being turned away even though there were tons of tables
My 4th visit. Brought some friends to try out the menu for the first time and they really enjoyed it as well. Food has great flavour and served in the right proportion. Service was friendly and our meals were served in the appropriate time.
So glad we went after a movie . . . industry pick for Golden Plate awards in Georgia Straight. Well worth it and still thinking about it . . .savoury, original, complex, satisfying. Many thanks.
Will go again. Very good service.
Always a great meal and wonderful service!
Food was so delicious, enjoyed every dish we ordered! Service was great our waiter was amazing! Really enjoyed our dining experience at Fayuca, will definitely come back again and recommend to others!
Service was outstanding. Highly recommend the black rice.
Heard about this restaurant and a friend had been a few times and highly recommended it. Must of been an off night because our experience was not fair. The worst part was ordering mains after about 45 minutes ( our service was incredibly slow and not much follow up at all) IT NEVER SHOWED UP. The kitchen never received our order, I've never had this happen before. We did order 3 appies, but they were quite small yet very yummy. The servers really did nothing to appease us after we told them that after waiting almost an hour we didn't get our mains. But it was her fault for not even checking in with us after ordering the mains. They knew it was my birthday as well. Also when we were first seated, it took about 30 minutes to get asked if we would like drinks ( I had to wave a server down who had a bit of a nonchalent attitude.) Overall liked the vibe, tasty food albeit small portions , but didn't like the lack of willing do help us after not receiving our main courses and leaving hungry.
It was okay. The oysters were a standout.
Fantastic and very different mixtures of food that were so amazing.
Very inviting space...and menu. All dishes we shared had vibrant flavours, and everyone at our table enjoyed every bite. Place also has a great vibe with a great bar space. Highly recommend it.
The ambiance was perfect - good food and good vibes.
Very tasty and beautiful ambiance!
The ambience and decor at Fayuca is outstanding, and the happy hour menu was perfect. However when my guest and I walked in there was an odd onslaught of odor, like a pile of dirty bar rags. Additionally, out server seemed to forget about us near the end. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be returning.
Most of the dishes were delicious. The only one I didn’t like was the duck breast in mole. It’s is not a mole sauce and they should rename it. Duck didn’t taste like much.
Great food and drinks. perfect place for dates. Got to try
the new menu
They sat us right next to the door so it was pretty cold. Good was okay but probably not our style. Service was 10/10 though. People were very nice and accommodating.
UNREAL! Great food and awesome ambiance. We loved the cactus tacos
This restaurant used to be one of my favourites in the city. The menu is still good, but there was a noticeable decline in the quality this visit. The drinks were not as balanced and the new additions (ex. greens) on top of classics (ex. Guacamole) detracted rather than added. Considering the price point, I may opt to go elsewhere next time.
The food is amazing, I've entertained work dinners twice at Fayuca & it's always well received in a group. I like that they accommodate a variety of diets but no one in the group necessarily feels like their missing out. The cocktails are strong, creative & delicious. The restaurant itself is beautiful.
Fayuca was fabulous. Great food and service. We went before a concert so didn’t want to eat too much so we shared a bunch of appetizers and wished we could stay and try more from the menu. We’ll go back for sure!
Excellent food, good service, nice atmosphere and, because of the Dine-Out, affordable. Really a lovely dinner experience
Fayuca had such delicious food!!! I would definitely go back again. Great ambiance too - dim but not too dark like other restaurants where it's hard to see your menu.
Enjoyed the open casual layout of the restaurant and color of the interior and decor...Music was not mexican or latin american at the start of the evening but later was and enjoyed very much. Little booth we were shown was too cramped for 2 bigger persons and our request was accommodated right away to more flexible booth/chair configuration...table still too close to other tables but we were ok. Food was excellent! Service was genuine and frequent, refilled water often (very important for me). Non-alcoholic beverage options not as exciting tho as I was designated driver. Only 1 flavour of Jarritos? I realize you can't carry them all but at least a couple would have been good, guava? pina?...the grapefruit one was very nice. Other than that, we enjoyed our evening very much and will be back to order from the a la carte menu in bigger portions and I won't plan to drive so I can sample some of those tequila's I saw at the bar! Thank you!
Everything was lovely, thank you!
I had pretty high expectations for this place but I was unfortunately disappointed. First impression from the host at the front was I was being rushed already. I had come in for dine out and I understand that they have specified time frames for reservations but I felt like the host wasn't welcoming when he told me the next reservations was at such and such time when I arrived only 5 min after my reservation. The next disappointment was the drinks I had ordered something and wasn't that pleased with it, the waitress was nice enough to offer me a different drink but my bf was fine to drink it so I didnt bother to get a different one. My bf wanted another drink so he ordered the same drink, when the drink came it looked a completely different drink from the previous and the same host that seated us took the other drink away that wasn't even finished. Again I felt like I was being rushed. On to the food, the ceviche was quite good both beet and tuna ceviche. The octopus dish was a bit disappointing. I thought it would be richer in flavor, I found it lacking unless you eat it with the broth it came with. The cauliflower dish for the entree was ok, it was pretty underwhelming as an entree. The oxtail pasta was ok as well, my bf liked it but I felt it was a bit lacking in oxtail and the richness in the sauce. I would come back and give it another chance and see if other things on the menu are better choices.
Not the best food. Small portions. Served cold. Very loud music.
Proper portion , fresh taste, new experience for the Mexican food.
It was during dine out. Good food good value.
Food was okay but underwhelming overall given the price, portions were really small and the entree (cauliflower with mole) was very disappointing, burnt and not fresh, tasted frozen, mole lacked substance. overall experience was uncomfortable, service was ok but not very friendly, loud atmosphere. Perhaps it was an off night but no incentive to return.
The staff was very inviting we were quickly seated. The food was a very fresh take on mexican food it was very flavorful with out being heavy and we left satiated and wanting to come back!
Dine out Vancouver-$35 menu extremely good value for the high quality of food! Amazing!
Food was amazing! and great ambiance. Service was ok.
Came for dine out. The ambiance is good but I was disappointed with the dine out menu. Perhaps I would come and try the regular menu. The food was also all like warm - which was disspointing.
I dined at Fayuca on Jan 25 with 2 other dining companions. We visited the restaurant for Dine Out Vancouver 2019. My dining experience at this restaurant was excellent. As a non-drinker, I always appreciate a thoughtful non-alcoholic drink menu so beginning my evening ordering from this menu made me very happy! The 4 course meal offered for Dine Out was delicious. I am a vegetarian (usually vegan), so I was delighted to be offered some intentional veg options. The beet ceviche was yummy, especially with the addition of 4 drops of habanero sauce, and it was served with very tasty tortilla pieces that had been fried (with no oily residue or taste) and lightly seasoned. The roasted red cabbage was pretty good - beautifully seasoned and finished with some salt granules. The grilled cauliflower was the highlight for me. Each element of this dish tasted good, but when all the elements were put and tasted together, it was divine! Serious high praise, I know, but from the flavouring on the cauliflower to the mole sauce to the toasted almonds, it was a delicious dish. Finally, the bunuelo, which I was not really looking forward to as my research told me that bunuelo is fried dough, was very enjoyable. The fried dough was actually a lightly fried, crispy piece of tortilla topped with apple, syrup and ice cream and, again, all the flavours and textures came together so well. I left the restaurant feeling perfectly satisfied - not too full, not hungry - and with the flavours of the various deliciously prepared foods still dancing in my mouth! I highly recommend this place!
Dineout 2019 superb
Went for the dine out menu. My girlfriend had the vegetarian set while I had the non-veg dishes. Overall, the veg dishes were better in terms of tastes, but their idea of grilling large piece of veggies was unusual for us. The cocktails are hit or miss though.
