My wife was unfortunate with her oysters, and was ill. She is Japanese and very used to eating raw foods, but sometimes you can just get unlucky? Everything else was fantastic, lots of fond memories at this restaurant.

The wait for food was too long. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to serve our main dish. The utensils were dirty and even the take out container given to us was dirty/ used as well. Very disappointed with our experience given that this place was recommended by a colleague at work who used to love this place.

best reasonably priced oysters in town. The night I was there they were Fanny Bay, quite variable in size from barely there to plump and firm. But since it was happy Hour (5-6pm) they were $2 each so our group of three shared three dozen. Added Smelt Fries because…where else do you find these? very similar to a fried oyster in tiny bit of fish (think minnow or less) unregnizable in size, texture and flavour inside a crumbly batter coating with a dip sauce. Kind of like a “healthy” french fry. Anyone would like it, even a non fish person. Finished off our tapas style meal with porcini mushroom pate. This was the only less than fine prep in that the texture was runny and mush textured, more like a chutney. Not what was expected and flavouring was so light it disappeared behind the butter or whatever oil was used as the base. OK spread on a nicely crisped baguette but could have stood up better on its own. that dropped me down from 5 to 4 stars. I really like everything about this place and although the menu isn’t super wide ranging it’s a cosy, funky and dependable night out. Makes downtown Victoria feel like a happening place!

Excellent meal and service. Oysters were delicious along with cauliflower salad,smelts and chorizo puffs. Exceptionally pleasant White House wine.Entrees were all delicious -boullabese, black cod curry ( nice mild sauce) , halibut, and clam linguini. All portions were more than adequate. We would certainly dine there again.

Front desk downstairs people had poor customer service skills. I was meeting my brothers upstairs and they arrived downstairs. People there were rude and not helpful in directing my brothers upstairs. Food was average in taste. Dessert was the best food out of the meal. Service was attentive but not special.

We appreciated the nice assortment of small plates available. We shared the chicken liver pate which was nicely presented with cherry jam and interesting pickles. I had the local shellfish. It looked small when it arrived, but there was plenty to eat. My husband enjoyed the tuna crudo. We ended with the lemon posset, which was my least favorite dish of the evening. It was my first time trying a posset and I found it a bit too rich for my taste. The lemon shortbread that accompanied it were delicious though. Next time I'd go for the creme brulee.

Phenomenal food and service. We were looking for something different and found it. Menu was diverse, with just enough “standards” for our son to choose from. Best Oysters Rockefeller I’ve had for a long time. Highly recommend this place - just a bit chilly if the downstairs doors are open, but I imagine as the days get cooler those will be addressed. Next time we are in Victoria we will return for sure.
