Marvelous restaurant for a global team to enjoy wonderful food in a lovely environment.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The mushroom croquettes were a delicious appetizer! Highly recommend this place!
Small portions and wine list was a little on the weak side...not to mention red wine was too warm. Great service and ambiance
The blood orange infused olive oil was absolutely AMAZING!!
Server was horrible
Amazing foods and very great service with a friendly environment
A favorite restaurant each time we visit Chicago. Always great food and love the atmosphere. Never disappointed.
Love this place! Can’t wait to come back! Great food! Romantic atmosphere!
Come for a drink at the bar first, the traditional martini is not to be missed. I am drooling at the memory. Pure heaven. Crostini are amazing, osso buco a delight. Service is quite exceptional, even if it gets rather noisy (Saturday- expect nothing less). GO.
Nice place food ok had a limited menu maybe because of Valentine’s Day
Overrated & poor service. Probably would not return.
This is a large restaurant but we didn’t feel overwhelmed by the noise at any time, except when they started to raise the music volume around 7:30. Nice ambiance, bright and inviting. Main Server was outstanding and all servers were friendly. The food was very good overall if not super exciting. They serve focaccia with their signature olive oils as a starter and the blood orange olive oil was a revelation - we’re totally buying some. Potato leek soup was delicious; risotto main was technically fine and visually appealing but way over salted and lacking in punch. Apple crisp pastry dessert was also very good but lacked a real taste punch - maybe more cinnamon or some kind of spice? We enjoyed ourselves but I was hoping for more of a wow.
Fig & Olive is a very cosmopolitan dining venue that was thoroughly hopping but not too loud. We had great service that moved along at a good pace and the food was quite good as well.
The meal was almost inedible...over cooked poached egg and mushy hash brown. I’m not that picky but could barely stomach it
Disappointed with food. It was bland and not worth the money we spent. On the other side we loved the ambiance. It would have been a better experience if the food was delicious.
Absolutely amazing! Fabulous location, fabulous service, and fabulous food! Can’t wait to go back again!
We had a great time! We were really impressed with the overall look of the restaurant and the food and service were great. We tried the Mushroom Croquette appetizer (highly recommend) and the braised veil was awesome!
Great early dinner prior to Chicago Symphony concert. Excellent service and extra care taken to be sure our meal was completed prior to concert. Broad selection of gourmet choices from fixed price to small plate options. Also my friend & I decided to share our entree & restaurant was very helpful in accommodating our choice. Beautiful, above street level location on Chicago’s Gold Coast. Highly recommended for food quality & choices, combined with premier service.
The Valentine's day deal was very special, and the staff seemed to do all they could to maintain a quality experience, but the restaurant was overbooked and overwhelmed.... Items came out of the kitchen way too fast and incorrectly cooked, and we kept having to send items back...
I made a reservation at 7:45 for Valentine’s day dinner. This was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. We were not seated at our table until 8:55pm. There was a long line of other people waiting for their reservations. The restaurant should
Not have allowed this many reservations if they could not accommodate us. When we finally were seated over an hour later, all
The couples around us were still waiting for their food from nearly 2 hours before and urged us to leave. We ordered 2 appetizers that took nearly 45 minutes to make. We asked for the bill immediately. We had to go home and make dinner after this experience. How sad that we couldn’t even enjoy a Valentines day dinner together! I would never recommend this restaurant to a friend and I will
Not be returning. I would appreciate a refund.
We went for Valentine’s Day date. We had a reservation for 7:45 and weren’t seated until almost 9pm after I followed up with the hostess and then stood near the hostess stand so I wasn’t forgotten about again. The restaurant was not at all prepared for the volume of people and seemed very unorganized to handle the reservations. Overall the food was good, but not incredible or enough to compensate for the price and the frustration of our experience. Additionally, I am surprised the restaurant didn’t offer to compensate at all for the situation (perhaps a free drink, after we had 4 drinks while waiting so long to be seated, or dessert or something). Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and I will likely not return.
I’ve never walked out of a restaurant before. Nor have I ever given a 1 star review. Until now. I’m a person who is more likely to tip 30% than 15% and I’m patient.
Our reservation was 7:30, 7:33 we check. She says our table isn’t ready, but we can wait at the bar. Two drinks and an hour later we are impatient and too hungry. I check with the hostess again in hopes we will get a table soon. She assured me it won’t be much more than a few minutes.
30 mins later and drink number 3, I head up to the hostess again, she’s surprised I haven’t been seated yet. The manger is rudely telling a group (that had a reservation and has waited an hour) that they sill don’t have a table. At that point, I should have known what we were in for. The hostesses and Mangers were overly rude. Finally, we get a table at 9:06.
It took too long to get service once seated. We didn’t have water until 9:15. We order from the Prix Fixe menu, because that has to be the fastest route to a dinner, right!? Flat out wrong.
Our Oysters Rockefeller come, they’re fine. Lots of crispy breading absolutely detracted from the flavor of the oysters.
We wait a bit after the so-so oysters. A lady brings some bread and olive oil. This would have been great when we were seated. Now it seems like there’s trouble in the kitchen and theyare stalling.
We agree if 10:15 rolls around with no food, we leave. The manager stops by, we tell him we’ve been waiting and are frustrated. My boyfriend can’t wait to try the Osso Bucco. Tonight doesn’t seem like it’s his night...
It’s 10:18... no entrees. We stop at the bar to pay the $100+ tab for whatever we have gotten (no real dinners).
I bet whatever they would have served would have been great.
Terrible management all around.
Never have I walked out before. I can’t believe I was pushed to that point on Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s dinner was a huge disappointment. Service was slow. We both ordered the pre fix menu. Dishes were coming out cold or lukewarm and in intervals of 20-30 minutes. Overall food quality was subpar as it was cold and overcooked. Server didn’t ask how we preferred both beef dishes to be prepared. Both were over cooked and that was the tipping point. Manager comped the drinks after we discussed the issues with them so I can’t knock the place too much, but I will never come back to this place. Also, overheard the waiter saying they doubled the tables to accommodate reservations. Poor decision by management to commercialize the special experience. When we left people’s reservations were 45 minutes behind! Mismanagement at its finest.
We waited 2 hours for our entree and then it came out completely cold. I know it was Valentine’s Day but I made this reservation a month ahead of time. I rarely complain but it ruined our Valentine’s Day. Unacceptable from a place with so high ratings. Will never go back.
Spent a lot of money on a bottle of champagne only to have the waiter attempt to refill my glass, but instead pour too much. It bubbled over and spilled on the tablecloth right where my arm usually goes. He didn’t even bother to clean it up and instead just said sorry and walked away. Probably spilled $10 of champagne and left me with a sticky glass and a wet tablecloth. Definitely not purchasing bottles of wine in the triple digits at this place if their wait staff can’t even handle refilling my glass. Food was delicious - just had one bad experience that seemed to ruin an otherwise phenomenal Valentine’s Day dinner.
Food and service was outstanding and the ambiance can’t be beat!
Due to Chicago’s blizzard last week, Restaurant Week was extended for another few days and I took advantage of the extra days. My beau and I decided to visit Fig and Olive for the very last day. I had been looking up reviews and. Photos on Yelp and I was excited before leaving work that day. Upon our entrance in the door, the sign just seemed so perfect. I couldn’t wait to get to the main floor. Our waiter was extremely friendly and gave phenomenal service. He made sure to explain in detail the menu and our options. He even threw in a complimentary order of truffle fries. The food was phenomenal and so delicious. The ambiance was great for our date night ms I was stuffed before my cheesecake came to the table. This is a perfect place to visit with friends , girls night , or anytime. I will be back for the truffle fries.
It was a spontaneous dining experience; very fun on a snowy Sunday afternoon. We were able to sit by a window in very comfy chairs. Our server was polite, though she wasn't very knowledgable with the wine list, she did navigate us to a bottle that was "easy to drink" so no complaints! All of our food was delicious, however, I was disappointed with the potato & leek veloute soup because it contained chunks of potato & leek and did not have a good flavor. I do look forward to going back again soon!
We enjoyed our lunch at Fig and Olive. Cocktails were great as well. The service was great as well.
Really comfortable atmosphere. Excellent cocktails, food & bite size dessert. We’ll be back!
This was the second time I’ve eaten here and this time around was far less impressive. The music was pounding from overhead speakers and it was not at all a romantic date as we had hoped. My truffle risotto was mushy and I couldn’t even bite into the rice, it was more like oatmeal. Very disappointed.
What a beautiful spot for a cocktail! My husband and I met friends here after work on a frigid Friday night and loved the cozy and modern vibe. We shared the carpaccio appetizer and salmon entree and both were perfectly seasoned and delicious. Definitely expensive enough that it won't be a weekly routine, but lovely for a special night.
This was really a very disappointing dinner on many levels. We have consistently had problems with service at this restaurant and frankly I do not think our dinner for two people was worth the $270 we spent for it. Nothing spectacular at all. One of the pasta courses was a truffle mushroom pasta and they were add things in the pasta - like the mushrooms hadn’t been well cleaned or something and again for what the meal cost just not worth it. And our wait staff person was wearing the most inappropriate right short black dress that didn’t fit her well at all and looked horrible. I’d much rather spend money at one of the other area restaurant so won’t be coming back here again.
We had a server from Denny’s take our order. So lame honestly. I’ve been here before and expected a little more when it comes to service.
The food that I ordered (short rib) wasn’t good at all. The aps; carpaccio and cauliflower were better for sure. Pear sangria is very tasty.
Overall, the server killed the night for me. I wanted to say something about my meal but he never came over to see how our food was.
Lucas was a perfect compliment to the excellent food and engaging atmosphere at Fig and Olive. A very enjoyable time.
Very disappointing. I had heard much hype about this restaurant and was soooo looking forward to dining there. The food was below average—-short rib was over cooked, sauce was over reduced, and polenta was too salty to eat. Service was poor. I asked the server about the salmon. He explained for 2 long minutes that he did not like fish. Once we ordered, we could not get our server to come back to the table. No one asked if we liked our food or if we wanted a second glass of wine. The waiter seemed to have disappeared. The pot de creme’ was tasty and the wine was good and served at the right temperature. The busboy was the highlight of the dinner. He continued to refresh our water and was very attentive and gracious.
I will not go back.
Food was great but we did restaurant week and the entrees took forever 40+ min even after we had the crostini tasting, our apps, and bread service. Server was nice, idk if he just didn’t fire the entrees in time or the kitchen was in a crunch. The ambiance was really nice, and the lighting was perfect. We just got sat at a table that was literally right next to someone so if you’re on a date maybe request something where you could sit next to each other like a 4-top. It was kinda hard to talk across the table when both parties next to us were pretty loud. We did valet the car it was $17. Valet is not right out front, it’s between fig& olive and Del friscos and the gentleman I spoke to on the phone didn’t tell me this. Which resulted in going around the block a few times. I appreciated them holding my table but it was frustrating with all the traffic on oak.
We return to Fig & Olive over and over because of its varied and interesting menu with both healthy and decadent choices, the calming ambience and comfortable seating, and the friendly, efficient and knowledgeable service. Its second-story location provides the space with both light and a reduction in street noise. While we typically avoid chain restaurants, we've made an exception because Fig & Olive offers an exceptional experience in a very convenient location.
We enjoy the ambience . The menu for restaurant week was disappointing.
It was great! The paella my boyfriend ordered was too salty and the waiter was very friendly and suggested another entrees for him. Awesome service!
