After reading a great menu on Hyatt’s website of this restaurant and calling ahead to make a reservation, I was very disappointed when we checked in and was told it was buffet only. And a not so tasty one at that. When I questioned if it was an off night, they said no, and that it’s been buffet for years and Hyatt just hasn’t updated the website. I went to the bar restaurant next door, and with an hour wait, we decided to try the buffet as we were all hungry. Hind sight, wish we had waited for the other restaurant. The buffet was “South of the Border” themed. The food was horrible. Your basic Mexican restaurant would put this food to shame. Only good things there were roasted veggies and tortilla soup. The rest was pretty gross considering how much they charge. For two adults and two kids, our bill was $128 plus a tip. This was just food, and did not include any alcoholic beverages. For what we paid, the food was unacceptable. The only good thing about our dinner was that our waitress was great and attentive.

We booked the NYE meal described on the FB page. I received a call on the 30th asking if we wanted to eat in the ballroom or the restaurant. I asked which is better and they put us in the restaurant. They called again at 7:40 on NYE to tell us that we could come early since fireworks began at 9. Very late notice. We arrived at 8:30. Had we arrived at our reserved time, there would have been no service as the carving station wrapped up at 9. The menu was NOT at all what was described. The buffet was almost over. There was brisket and sausage, but none of the meal described- no prime rib; no oysters. They were out of the wine I ordered. They were out of chicken. We were disappointed. We ate, paid our ticket and left. I feel we were not informed properly of the event.

Our family had dined at the Firewheel cafe for Christmas in 2020 and had a very nice experience; however, this year was pretty bad. The food on the buffet likely would not have passed any kind of inspection - it was room temperature at best. The buffet line was dirty w/ food spillage along the counter. Instead of cleaning the dried food mess employees were just standing around chatting. Essentially you had to interrupt them to request what you wanted - they didn't automatically offer to assist you. The waitress that served our drinks stood there staring at us instead of greeting us and requesting our drink order. Service was also exceptionally slow - especially given how few people were dining there. Overall, we were very disappointed in our dining experience there this year. Last year I recommended this place to others - I will not be doing that this year.

We made dinner reservations for Christmas with our family this is the fifth year in a row that we have done the Christmas buffet at the Hyatt resort between San Antonio and Bastrop resorts and this was by far the worst that we have ever had! The food was cold and disgusting way over priced for the variety of food and the quality was very poor. The beef Wellington was so dry and the breading was crispy hard. The salmon was over cooked all the vegetables were bland and gross and they very had little variety. For a family of five it cost us almost $500 it was $60 a person for the Buffet normally this is a treat that we look forward to every single year and what a disappointment it was we all left with stomach aches. So disappointed Hyatt!

Meal and service were excellent, particularly because it was buffet style. Dessert selections could improve (ice cream!). A bit pricey, but it's at the Hyatt resort so not a surprise.

Night and day from previous years. Location changed from ballroom to a smaller restaurant within the hotel. Food selection was limited compared to prior years. Pricy, disappointing Buffett. Ambiance was lackluster. This is not the same Christmas experience as years prior. Disappointed.

Average buffet food like powdered eggs, boxed cereals, etc. Not many gluten-free, dairy-free options, for healthier eating.

Don't be fooled by the photos and menu on their website- it's not remotely upscale. In fact, the entire restaurant appears to have been redone and doesn’t look like the open table photos any longer inside. We scheduled a 6:30 Friday night reservation and indicated it was “date night.” We were sat on the patio facing a tether ball, fire pit, and adjacent to a loud pool between right 2 families with small kids. There were people walking around a walking path and children running everywhere - it's a resort, so the place was busy. The patio has typical metal patio furniture. No table cloths. The Friday night menu was set and "family style," so for $100 we had roasted chicken, frozen chicken fried steak, and stale German chocolate cake. There was no mention of this when I made the reservation. The service was fine, but the whole experience was incredibly lackluster. If you're not staying at the resort, there is absolutely no reason to eat here. I cannot stress enough that it is nothing like it is portrayed online. It is a casual cafe you could maybe have a work lunch at. Deeply misleading and hugely overpriced and disappointing.

First off, We went to the Hyatt for Christmas dinner. We both ended up very sick after the dinner. I am usually not a negative critic but that was one of the worst dinners we ever had. The food tasted like it was not fresh and like it was frozen and defrosted. The meat appeared to be pre-cooked frozen food and was not like the prime rib they advertise. Everything about the dinner was bad. The bread was stale, the cake was still half frozen. Definitely the worst Christmas dinner we have ever had. We booked the hotel because of the dinner but ended up greatly disappointed. I would expect better from a five star hotel.

We go every year to Hyatt Lost Pines to celebrate Thanksgiving. Due to Covid, and the restrictions, the poor staff were not prepared for the “fix” and all “family style serving” required. The plan did not work, we waited way too long to only have cold food. The staff is incredible and we love them. We were happy to tip them but not happy for the huge bill for disappointing food.

We have come here for Thanksgiving and Christmas before and we’re always pleased. It was nothing special this year. The $35. Price was good until you added taxes and fees. Before the hotel was decorated inside and out for Christmas. Eating this year it didn’t even feel like Christmas. In other times someone walked around singing Christmas Carols, out side activities and games surrounded by outside decorations besides a few lights. Probably will not be back. My only good thing to say was our waiter was Excellent! Didn’t mind giving him a good tip. He was very delightful. As to recommending it to a friend for Christmas, no. I used to recommend it to everyone. Since we weren’t with family this year we wanted to do something Special. We remembered other visits were fun so we decided to come again.

This was my first visit to Firewheel and we decided to go there for the Christmas buffet since they were one of the few places open and the price for the buffet was better than other buffets that day. The wait staff was very attentive and there were several people available if I had a question about the food. The one thing I appreciated most was cards at each food item stating whether they were gluten free or vegetarian, etc. I also was happy to see that they use paper straws. Every little bit helps. Thank you Firewheel for making my Christmas day a great one.

We had Christmas Day lunch here and it was outstanding. The selection was huge and every dish was creative and gourmet quality which is unusual for a buffet. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated and we especially appreciated the free bikes with helmets. Our five year old (whose meal was free!) said he wanted to live there. We loved everything about it and it was very reasonably priced compared to buffets in other Austin 5 star hotels. All in all a great experience. We plan on making it a holiday tradition.

We weren't aware we were getting the buffet until we were already there (had made a reservation and it wasn't mentioned anywhere), but the food was good (loved the pork belly) and the kids were happy. We were there to celebrate their birthday, and the waiters brought out custom cupcakes and sang to them, which was really sweet. And of course, they loved the buffet of dessert options, including a chocolate fountain.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at this restaurant. We were staying at the resort and we sat down to dinner...my daughter got unexpectedly sick after we had ordered and my husband had to take her back to the room. The staff was beyond accommodating, delivering the food to our room and bending over backwards to assist. Once we were able to enjoy the food, it was delicious..steaks cooked to perfection, crabcakes excellent, and sides amazing. I highly recommend.

Delicious food, attentive service, fun atmosphere! This is a large restaurant located inside the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. The resort attracts a lot of families, so expect children and the accompanying noise. This is not the spot for a romantic date or serious business meeting, but is perfect for a family get-together or casual dining with friends.
