Chef Duncan’s techniques using fresh, local ingredients bring new and unusual flavours to Calgarians who seek new gourmet dining experiences. Imagine house-made charcuterie infused with crisp Asian spices and a room styled after the elegance of colonial Vietnam with some modern surprises.
Food was good though some was burnt but they handled it well and offered new dishes if we wanted
Our server was very good and informative
Prices are reasonable.
The food at Foreign Concept was good. We enjoyed three of the four items we ordered. We found the Trout greasy and the accompanying noodles without much flavour.
My biggest complaint would be that the tables are very close together and so you feel like you are having a romantic night with strangers. The service was a little slow taking our order but the food arrived quickly afterwards.
Amazing food and great customer service along with nice decor. It's definitely a great place for night out with friends and family
Words you don't say often and that people won't even believe, but get the brussel sprouts! They were charred to perfection and seriously delicious.
The best birthday dinner I could have hoped for. Unique food, creative presentation and best of all complex flavours that we could taste all the way home. Our servers were top notch, knew the cuisine and provided excellent suggestions. We arrived at five so it wasn’t particularly busy.
Amazing food. One of my favourite restaurants in the city for sure!
One great place to eat. Great food and service
Great food, space and service
My favourite Asian cuisine restaurant in Calgary. As usual an excellent experience. I’ve tried everything on the menu and each dish offers amazing blends of flavours. Presentation is always on point. It’s a busy place with bistro style seating so tables are close together which I love for that cozy feel. Can’t wait for Chef Ly’s newest addition to Calgary’s French cuisine scene - Melo!
Such good food and drinks!
The servers were great and the menu had a wonderful variety of options. Everything we ate was delicious and the drinks and wine options were great too!
The food was delicious! The service was excellent, they prepared and presented the food wonderfully! We were there quite early, there are many tables in the restaurant. so the only thing that disappointed me was that they sat EVERY one of the 6 diners that came after us right close to us all in a row by the window even though there were several servers available. There was a lot of empty space available in other parts the restaurant. It made the atmosphere much less intimate.
Foreign Concept is a restaurant that truly captures Asian fusion. The food is top notch and staff is very friendly. But what impressed me the most, was the fresh and incredible ingredients used, that are very hard to find in Calgary. I would highly recommend this restaurant for people who enjoy Asian cuisine and what it has to offer.
Guys...I was blown away by the food here. I came in with my parents who are fairly picky, but I figured there was enough variety on the menu for there to be something for everyone. They absolutely loved every dish we ordered.
I would for sure tell you to order the oysters and the trout....the trout was the stand out dish of the night (which is really saying something as everything was exceptional). Even my mother who hates fish, happily ate it. I love that everything is served family style, and the portions for each dish were great. You are certainly getting what you pay for.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service. I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. If you're looking to try something new or want some exceptional food; this is the place to go. Can easily say this is the best meal I've had in Calgary.
the food is fabulous but the service needs some work. Last time we were there, our second course was squeeze3d onto the table before we were even half way through our first course. Next time, the appetizer was forgotten altogether, waitress wasnt sure what the menu items were ],no milk/cream nor spoons with the coffee until we asked. Small things but not awesome service overall
Great food and great service. The lemon chicken was fabulous! A MUST try! The imperial roll was really good too! The only thing was that they didn’t inform us about the kitchen being closed and we were looking forward to trying the dessert.
We had a great meal, and shared a bunch of small plates and 2 large plates for 4 people. All dishes were very tasty and it was very nice evening.
Delicious food! Great atmosphere! This has been one of my favourite spots since it opened. Try the honey butter chips; they won't disappoint! When I dined there yesterday, the staff was very attentive. We only had 1 hour for lunch and the staff made sure we were done in time.
Delicious, consistently excellent
Great use of seasonal foods in a modern atmosphere. Plenty of flexible space for large parties or couples. I didn't find the restaurant to be loud. There was good space for people with greater mobility needs. Fun staff! On-street parking and across the street from a parking lot.
For the Foodie-in-U: My husband & I loved the BUTTERNUT SQUASH & GREEN MANGO SLAW. The MIGNARDISES was a delightful treat for 2.
Budget-Wise Note: The Dinner menu is Family Style so a three-course meal is designed for 2.
First time experience and it will not be our last! Love the food! Interesting combination of flavors. Fit for a foody. Only comment was that the wine selection could be broader.
Food was stellar and service was great! The squid ink pasta was delectable
Service was sporadic and forgetful
We have already said that we will return as we sooo enjoyed our evening! Told all my friends as well. Awesome.
Exceeded expectations and the staff really worked as a team. Food flavours and presentation were amazing. We felt one large plate per person was enough food. Smaller plate
In addition was not necessary.
Would definitely suggest for someone interested in a unique dining experience.
Food was awesome. Service was great!
food was what we came for. Very noisy at times and the service needs some fine tuning. we weren't ready the first time to make am order and then we were forgotten about I think. Second course arrived and was shoved on the very small table before we had finished the first course...poor show
It was a great experience and excellent food as well as a professional service.
Tofu with pork appetizer was outstanding, as was Ike squid ink seafood pasta.
My husband and I dined at Foreign Concept for a special occasion and we are so glad we did! The food was incredibly flavourful with perfect portions and the service was top notch. We will be returning for sure.
Awesome food...a little loud.
Great casual atmosphere for a date. Food was amazing.
22nd wedding anniversary! Great fun!
Great presentation, service, and quantity for price. The brussel sprouts and kim chi were very tasty starters! Will be back !
This was a family lunch to celebrate after our son’s high school convocation. Tuna poke appetizer was very tasty. Lunch trout special was an award winning dish for chef Jinhee and it was evident why! The flavours were amazing. The ahi tuna burger was an impressive 1-inch thick patty cooked to perfection with togarashi spices, served with a refreshing Asian slaw. The char siu pork bowl was incredible - pork was so savoury and tender - it practically melts in your mouth. Best char siu pork ever...wish I had ordered it! Our server Tanya was excellent!
Amazing! My husband and I shared a bunch of appetizers a main and 2 desserts (and a bottle if sake). The CHAR SIU PORK & FOIE GRAS STEAMED BUNS were one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.
Food was excellent in presentation and taste, with unique flavors. Enjoyed it and will be returning.
We wanted to so badly to like Foreign Concept. However, the entire evening was a dud. Food was mediocre at best. “Fusion” takes a nose dive when you dumb down authentic flavours and it takes an even farther nose dive when it’s served cold. Not one item we ordered was to temperature and the most expensive item on the menu, the 14 oz steak, was bland and very much needed salt and pepper. The 72 hr sous vide short ribs were bland as well served along cold mashed potatoes.
Food was very good but waited a long time to get a soup and a salad. Our diners seemed to get their food quicker.
A wonderful dining experience celebrating my wife's birthday. It was everything and more than what we were told. And, thanks so much, to Duncan (owner/chef) for coming out to say "hi."
