Chef Duncan’s techniques using fresh, local ingredients bring new and unusual flavours to Calgarians who seek new gourmet dining experiences. Imagine house-made charcuterie infused with crisp Asian spices and a room styled after the elegance of colonial Vietnam with some modern surprises.
They were slammed on a Sat night. Felt sorry for the servers and waiters as the people and dishes kept piling up around us. Staff was heroic, but restaurant was memorable because of the chaos when it should have been about their outstanding food.

We feasted on appy's and drank wine! The appy's were wonderful, didn't have the main course. really enjoyed the charcuterie and the Brussels sprouts and the spring roll. Probably would have given 5 stars if we had ordered main course!
Amazing food the squid ink spaghetti was the best dish I’ve ever had in Calgary. Great value and portions too!

We got the Squid Ink Pasta, Char Siu pork and foie gras buns, short rib fried rice, trout, and tofu and enjoyed all of it. Will definitely be back soon!

This was our first time dining here and I would go back. The shed dish approach is fun with a couple or small group.
We enjoyed the brussels spouts, found the cauliflower average, like the Begogi (sp?) rolls. Mains were pork chop and fried rice (yum!)

I searched Vietnamese on Open Table and this came up as a suggestion. It was definitely more Korean Fusion than Vietnamese, but this was probably one of the best meals we have had at a restaurant in the past few years. We will definitely return again.

Our server was really helpful, explaining how to order and what dishes are the most popular.
For small plates, we had the brussel sprouts and the cauliflower. The cauliflower was delicious. The brussel sprouts, which have a glaze on them weren't great. The glaze was burned, therefore the whole dish tasted burnt and that was really the only flavour we could taste.
For the large dishes, we had the steamed buns and the duck. The steamed buns were good but not anything special. And the duck was average, we have had better elsewhere. The duck breast seemed tough.
For dessert, we had the lime cheesecake which was really great.
Overall, we felt the prices did not match the food. It was really expensive for average dishes.
The recommendations made by the server were spot on. Great food. Served hot and fresh and with careful attention to allergies or special requests. We will absolutely be back!!
Wonderful dinner with my out of town friend. We were all pleased with the food quality, the service and the atmosphere. I always choose Foreign Concept for special occasions and highly recommend it to all of my friends.

Service was amazing. Food was amazing! Place is adorable. It’s a thing we have to get used to but our table was really close to another couple that was there for our whole sitting. So we kind of felt like we were sharing a table. This is more of an us issue than a problem with the restaurant. Will definitely go back!

Thoughtful unique dishes that were all excellent. Many spins on traditional Korean menue. Many different wonderful flavors. Service was terrrific. Our group of six enjoyed the sharing aspect.

I enjoyed the food and service at Foreign Concept, but I'm afraid my perception of the food may have been tainted by having eaten a similar meal at Anju the day before.
I had a char siu pork bowl and honey butter chips. They were both good, but I felt like the Korean lunch set I got from Anju was tastier, and better value for a similar price.
I love chips so the honey butter chips were exciting to me - crispy and sweet with a tangy lemon aioli that went perfectly with the chips. Nice portion, too. I took the remaining chips back to my hotel.
The music was nice but a little on the loud side for my taste, especially for midday as opposed to evening when you might expect a hip bar/restaurant to have louder music. The service was also excellent, and quick. I would go back again but maybe try something different.
First time here and not disappointed. Very interesting, Asian-inflected cuisine. Excellent service - maybe one of the best servers I've had in 25 years of dining in Calgary. Will come again to try something else from the eclectic menu

A friend took me here for a birthday dinner and I couldn't have been more satisfied. The food was just amazing, we had some tasty beverages and the atmosphere was great. The icing on the cake was that the service was top notch... the server knew when to stop by and the bartender came to drop off a specialty drink. I will most definitely go back.
This restaurant is outstanding, and the food is amazing. Try going with friends or co-workers and sharing multiple small plates so you can try many different things! Thanks Chef, you are incredible!
Food and wine were great, and service to match. Tables were a bit close together, and a touch loud. Especially enjoyed the pork belly, Brussels sprouts, and lime cheesecake.
Small portion and salty food with a high price tag. Nothing memorable and going back for after 3 small plates, 3 large plates, and 2 desserts. Long wait for food especially if you go in hungry to begin with. Server was ok but tried too hard to be overly friendly only at the end when she brought us our bill...hmmmm....overall impression is that this place is overrated, a bit pretentious, and overpriced.
A very unique dining experience! I loved the food here! I was happy to know that they were opening a Takori next door as well - since it previously was only available at Avendina Food Market. All the dishes we got were very unique and flavourful. A dish that stood out the most to me was the Lemongrass Glazed Duck! It was super tender and honestly one of the best duck dishes I've had. (My boyfriend really likes Duck and we order it at every restaurant that offers it) Looking forward to trying Takori on Betline as well as Melo Eatery, which is also owned by Chef Duncan Ly! I highly recommend Foreign Concept for a nice date night. :)

Food was amazing. Service was not what I thought it would be. So disappointing considering how long I spent trying to pick an "it" restaurant for our guests this weekend. I understand that sometimes staff can get busy but this was such an issue for us.
The menu is full of delightful options. I recommend the spring roll wraps and the gochujang pork chops!!
Service was outstanding and very efficient. Duncan has hit the nail on the head with this venue, and I cant wait til his taco stand opens up next door!!!
