Heard great things about the restaurant but was unfortunately a bit disappointed. Brussel Sprouts were extremely sweet, kimchi was ok (more fermentation then I’d prefer). Squid ink spaghetti was just ok too
We went for dinner on a weekday evening during the happy hour (4-6 PM) time. We had the bbq pork, bulgogi, and Brussels sprouts appetizers (from the happy hour menu) as well as the squid ink and duck entrees. The appys were a great deal and very tasty and well prepared. The mains were good as well though the octopus was slightly over cooked. It was a minor issue though since the food overall was excellent. We were very happy and would go back again especially during the happy hour time frame. The service was excellent though we were the only table at that time. One of the best restaurants in Calgary and excellent value compared to other restaurants in this price point!

Amazing experience! Food was phenomenal! Chef Duncan put so much thought into planning these dishes and the flavour profiles reflect that immensely. Between the two of us, we got to taste six different dishes - Char Sui Pork Steam Buns, Vietnamese Fried Chicken, Beef Short Rib Coconut Fried Rice, Cherry Gochujang Glazed Duck Breast, Yuzu Cheesecake (not pictured) and the sorbet trio (not pictured).
Chad was an excellent server as well! Very personable, knowledgeable of the menu and great with suggestions. Conversation of the menu, city and industry were fantastic.
Would 100% recommend this experience to anyone looking for a great night out.
The food was really good! But the ambiance was a bit loud. Was hoping for a calm romantic evening!
Appetizers were great, I would definitely come back for these. House cocktails were fun and tasty. The problem was the mains. Our table had 3 mains and the only one that was truly tasty and balanced was the ink squid pasta the one I expected the least out of. One of the others was the duck which had half a duck breast on the plate and it wasn't well cooked. I had the braised short rib.... it was awful - lacking taste and finishing salt, this came on a bed of salad that was overdressed and very sweet, strange combination.

Fantastic restaurant. Flavours are unique and go very well together. Their signature pickerel dish is a staple I have come to love. Pricing is reasonable for the quality and quantity. Service was tentative and friendly. Was there when we needed but not overbearing with constant interruptions. Keep up the amazing job!!

We started with the papaya slaw and the tuna tataki....both were excellent. Our mains were the spaghetti, the pickerel and the duck breast....desserts were the cheesecake and the tapioca....all delicious.

We had great service, and it is a very nice atmosphere. The decorations and layout are unique. The Japan Manhattan was very good - not too sweet. The Brussels sprouts were tasty - the glaze is flavourful and the Brussels sprouts were crispy. The squid ink spaghetti was SO GOOD - great mix of seafood, textures, and flavours.
Lovely flavours with courteous staff and full protocols in place during this pandemic. We loved our appetizers and the mains are fabulous! I had the sweet and sour pickerel while hubby had duck breast. We can’t wait to go back!
It’s been a minute since we’ve eaten here and they didn’t disappoint! Service was excellent and the food was perfect. There were four of us and we ended up ordering all the appetizers (except the Bao buns- we ordered 4 of those )

After having heard so many great things about it over the last couple of years we were disappointed in the food., some was fantastic , some was tough and one crazy salt ... appies were better. .
Squid ink pasta was the winner dish as compared to the other 3 entrees.
Server was awesome . Very nice and friendly service .
For a bill over $400 I would go somewhere else next time .

Foreign Concept has done an excellent job of adapting to and accomodating for social distancing requirements. Their staff was appropriate and attentive as always, their food perhaps even better than my last pre-COVID visit.

the new limited menu was frightening at first especially for a vegetarian but they did offer one "main" option for review. room was extremely cold. due to limited seating, food service was extremely rushed. we were in and out within an hour versus last visit 6 months prior which was a 3 hour fiesta.
