Great food (b sprouts, dumplings, slaw, squid ink spaghetti...) and a decent drinks menu. We hadn’t been here in a while (thanks, COVID!) so we noticed the menu changed. We’ll try some of the new dishes next time around. Sad to see the pork char siu is gone, but there’s a duck dish that looks to be a worthy replacement.

Great food, great service, excellent ambience. We especially loved our main large plate (duck). The starters were very good quality and flavourful , but not spectacular like the large plate.

I really enjoyed the caramel fish sauce Brussels sprouts & the Vietnamese coffee styled panna Cotta-both are dishes I actually normally dislike but they were prepared so well I found myself reaching for multiple bites.
You can tell that each dish was crafted with a lot of thought and Incorporates flavours together really well. Each dish was perfectly balanced and offered something creative and tasty.
The restaurant was more casual than I expected, but was still a great time. The server was very attentive and hospitable. I recommend for any Calgarian foodie to give them a try, definitely worth the visit!
We shared 3 small plates and 1 large plate. We started with the Chili Cucumbers followed by the Fish Sauce Caramel Brussel Sprouts and Sichuan Mouth-Numbing Fried Chicken. SO delicious! We also shared the Lemongrass Glazed Duck Breast - I don't usually order duck but I knew it would be tasty. Everything was amazing and we had room for dessert. We had the Condensed Milk Panna Cotta - best dessert I have ever had! The cocktails are also top notch👌🏽
Chef Ly and staff do not disappoint! This was my third visit and I can't wait to go back again! Thank you for the amazing dinner!

Excellent. It is operating with a reduced menu from pre-pandemic but service and food were both very good and it was a nice place to go for our first experience eating out since lock downs imposed.
Was very excited to try Foreign Concept as it is very well-reviewed.
The food was slightly shy of mediocre, which considering the high price point was very disappointing.
We were there on an extremely cold evening which is obviously beyond the restaurant's control, but it was so cold inside that many people seated around us were wearing their winter jackets for the entirety of the meal.
Very few vegetarian or vegan options. We had the kimchi as an appetizer (which of course worked better as a side) and then I was told that the fried rice could be made vegan with tofu. They were out of tofu so I had veggie fried rice as my main dish.
My mother had the trout, which she enjoyed.
We took desserts to go and they were lovely.
They did also offer to make the brussel sprouts vegetarian.
First night out in a long time to celebrate Valentine’s Day! We’ve decided this is close to the top of the list of favorite restaurants. The food is so flavorful and it has a cozy atmosphere. Service was slow on drink orders but think that was related to how busy it was and it being their first day open in over a month.

What an amazing restaurant experience! We had an amazing last meal before lock down and I’m so happy we picked Foreign Concept! The food was outstanding with great portion sizes. The restaurant was busy which was so nice to see for a small business! Even though it was busy, we never felt forgotten about! Can’t wait to try the takeout menu as it is to different.

Poor service. 25 minutes to get a drink! We had several small plates and almost every dish was saturated in sauce that was too sweet, too salty or too sour. They were all mediocre and none were great. It was like listening to several loud pieces of music at the same time, for our poor taste buds.
Not sure why we had not been here sooner. The food and cocktails are delicious and creative. The space is beautiful and the service is great. The server’s recommendations were delicious. We added a few extra items and wanted more, but we were stuffed!
Meal was impeccable and love the decor and consistent service. Duncan Ly is an amazing chef and the city is lucky to have a modern Vietnamese place like this.

Heard great things about the restaurant but was unfortunately a bit disappointed. Brussel Sprouts were extremely sweet, kimchi was ok (more fermentation then I’d prefer). Squid ink spaghetti was just ok too
We went for dinner on a weekday evening during the happy hour (4-6 PM) time. We had the bbq pork, bulgogi, and Brussels sprouts appetizers (from the happy hour menu) as well as the squid ink and duck entrees. The appys were a great deal and very tasty and well prepared. The mains were good as well though the octopus was slightly over cooked. It was a minor issue though since the food overall was excellent. We were very happy and would go back again especially during the happy hour time frame. The service was excellent though we were the only table at that time. One of the best restaurants in Calgary and excellent value compared to other restaurants in this price point!
