This was my fourth time dining at Foreign Concept. It’s one of my favorite spots in Calgary! I took my dad who had never been and he was blown away with the amazing dishes we ordered, presentation and flavor combinations. Another memorable dinner!
We booked this restaurant for evening dining after an event on a Thursday. We had excellent service and the food was great! Such a refreshing menu with lots of variety. The wine was lovely also.
My friend has Celiacs and there was only a couple of dishes that were not gluten free. That made dining such a great experience here.
I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and they will see us again soon!
Foreign Concept is innovative and delicious. We ordered 6 sharing plates and the charcuterie plate and we thoughally enjoyed everything. We came from out of town and always like to make FC a place to go. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive!
Who knew some of your favourite 'simple' foods could be prepared with such delicate and perfectly executed complexity. Be prepared to have a whole new world of flavours open up to you in every bite.
Good small plate, tapas-style portions for sharing so you can try many different delectable dishes.
Love this place ~ definitely a top choice in Calgary!
I was really looking forward to eating at the restaurant but in the end I was disappointed. I was expecting bold flavors and everything was good but not great. I took my sister here for her birthday. I consider myself to be a foodie and my sister is a red seal chef. We tried the bulgogi imperial rolls which had great textures and was the better of the dishes but in my mind, the rolls were too large for the wrap and there was something lacking. I should have written my review that night as now I can't remember specifics. The Wagyu beef tartare lacked seasoning but I did appreciate the spicy nuts that accompanied it. The scallops were sweet but I don't think the grapes added anything to the dish. The last dish was the trout and we were told the dish won gold. Again it was good but nothing to write home about. The scallion noodles were tasty. Over all everything was cooked perfectly but they were intimidated about how to properly season the dishes so it was very bland.
We ate 5 small plates, including oysters All were outstanding Be sure to get the chocolates plate for two for desset Service was excellent
Excellent restaurant, with friendly service. I appreciated that the chef came out to talk, no doubt this made easier for him because it was late in the evening
Had a noodle bowl - for the price was underwhelmed. I was expecting a lot more in terms of quantity and creativity for the price.
Excellent service and a delicous meal. The lemon chicken and brussel sprouts were both out of this world. They focus on shared plates and ordering a selection of small plates and a large plate or two will leave two peolple more then full.
We decided to check this restaurant out, for a birthday dinner, due to The Avenue Magazine's recommendation and made a reservation 2 weeks ahead. We were continuously disappointed. Why make a reservation when they had clearly just filled the lively area tables up first and sat us in the half full/ back area. We felt like we were sitting in an overflow area. Perhaps our server did as well as we often waited far too long for service or answers to questions. Bit into an unbreakable piece of plastic at one point. The server took it to bring to the chef but we never heard a word back about it.
The food is creative and presentation is nice but not nearly as nice as the pictures show. The sous-vide short rib was delicious.
Don't try and order coffee with dessert, it came out 15 minutes after (though was ordered first).
It was a nice spot to bring my colleagues who were visiting CALGARY just needed help with the menu as we weren’t sure how to order
First time at Foreign Concept, it was fanastic! Food was great, service was very good!
We enjoyed a tasty dinner here. There were 7 of us and we orders small and big plates for sharing. Every dish packed with full flavors and did not disappoint. The atmosphere is hip and cozy. Our server is delightful and very attentive. It was a great culinary experience. Highly recommended!
Fantastic. Not our first time there and won’t be our last.
Food was so good. I would go back there in a minute. Have to try everything on the menu.
Was really good!
Great fusion menu. Small and large plates available. Friendly server. Can be a bit noisy on Fri/ Sat nights but we go during the week. Overall awesome.
Great menu and ambience. The charcuterie was terrific add were the small plates of scallops, tartare,Bulgogi Imperial tools and the sprouts all infused with great flavors and presented to the high standards that this great restaurant is renowned for.
I've been to Foreign Concept for both lunch and dinner and really enjoyed both experiences. I got to enjoy the patio for lunch and purple watch. For my divert visit we were running a little late got our reservation inside for a double date and they were very accommodating and had our table ready and waiting. We enjoyed the restaurant decor. The Imperial rolls are a definite favorite for anyone I know that's tried them. Any of the played I've tried were excellent. The chef is very friendly. I saw him come out to ask a young girl how her meal was after he'd prepared her an off menu special - Mac and Cheese. I loved his involvement and commitment to a positive experience for guests.
The restaurant was lovely and the food was amazing! It tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Food arrived promptly and service was great! It is a good place to grab lunch with a friend.
Loved it all! Serious food in a funky environment. Service was first class and at the same yknr very friendly and comfortable. The food is perfect for sharing and although I had heard portions were small, they were more than adequate.
We would definitely recommend foreign concept for anyone who loves food food
Our waitress was kind, just not attentive and hardly came by. When ordering, we said that we'd like to start with a cocktail and then have a glass of wine with dinner. Shortly thereafter our dinner arrived and we hadn't even received our cocktail yet. #Fail.
This is becoming my go to restaurant for taking people who've never been. Jinhee is gracious with her time and the food NEVER disappoints.
An exceptional place with exceptional food. I highly recommend Foreign Concept. All four of us enjoyed every bite of food.
Never disappoints! Love the food and will continue coming back - our go to for impressing out of town guests!
Celebrated our anniversary here an cannot day enough about it. Everything was absolutely delicious, the staff was spectacular, and the chef even came out to check that everything was good. We will definitely be back and will be recommending it to all our friends.
Mostly great. We found a lot of repitition in the menu which is surprisingly heavy for this type of food. We enjoyed the Bulgogi Lettuce Rolls and the Bao with Foie Gras and Pork Belly ( not BBQ pork as menu stated ).
Small Sake and Cocktail menu.
Good music at the correct volume.
Will return when in Calgary.
The food was mediocre at best. I’ll lead with Pork/fois buns they were good. But the other things: the tofu had no flavor, the meat sauce on top was a dry Bolognese type sauce, the beef and rice dish on the mains was all rice and pretty much no beef.
Not a place I would frequent by any means. Tasty parts but nothing memorable.
Service was awful.
Needs something, not sure what but something.
From the first friendly greeting to the last delicious bite, our dining experience was terrific. Innovative cuisine from award-winning chefs and attentive service made our evening very enjoyable.
Matched its recommendation.
It took us a few months to try this place after a friend recommended it. The squid ink spaghetti and the sous vide short ribs were perfect - the best we’ve had. The brussel sprouts had a very interesting flavour. All the dishes had unique flavours that blended well with each other. The mousse lady finger dessert was the perfect ending. We’ll be back.
Great food, nice ambiance. Love the location as it’s close to my apartment. Food came out in timely fashion as we had ordered several sharables
Went there with my date. We ordered multiple plates everything tasted excellent. The kimchi was incredible. We expected the bill to be large with the amount of food we ordered but it was very reasonably priced. The service was also really great. We will definitely be going again.
Exceptional food and service make Foreign Concept a must visit restaurant. It's Asian Fusion menu is filled with flavorful items and options of small and large plates. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and the restaurant is well laid out and comfortable.
Had a great time at Foreign Concept. Sharing plates allow you to try more dishes at one sitting and everything we tried had delicious flavour combinations. We'd definitely go back.
Our first visit to Foreign Concept and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional - great taste and beautifully presented - and the service was excellent - great recommendations for plates and wine. We were in the smaller dining area on the bar side, and the noise level there was acceptable (a bit too loud for us in the main dining area). The side we were on would be nice for a small private party or business luncheon. Price was very reasonable. Will definitely come again.
Nicely laid out restaurant. Moderately loud with a great overall ambiance. Knowledgeable staff with attention to detail throughout the experience. Most of the dishes were well thought out with a focus on the flavours and textures. The real standouts were the trout and the imperial rolls. Delicious!
Dishes looks good, but all of the 7 dishes we order were too too salty...not healthy at all. VERY disappointed.
Asian Fusion Food done right. Highly Unusual layering and use of Asian spice or ingredients on familiar dishes. Portions for small butes and main dishes are sufficient. Good for sharing too. If looking for something different and non conventional yet workable sufficient quantity, highly recommend Foreign Concept.
