Between the central locale afforded by its gracious home in the landmark Lord Elgin Hotel, a warm and yet contemporary ambience, a locally sourced menu and a casual-to-sophisticated stocked cellar, Forty-One has become one of Ottawa’s top new restaurants.

Named Forty-One in recognition of the year, 1941, that the Lord Elgin was built, the restaurant features a modern environment and classic menu that is a perfect match for connecting with new and familiar faces. Guests are able to relax in the inviting lounge with flat screen TVs and large windows overlooking Elgin Street or enjoy an intimate dinner or a group get together in the dining area. With a capacity of close to 150, the restaurant features booths and banquette seating to allow flexibility to accommodate guest needs whether they are popping in for lunch, a quick after-work cool-down, a pre-theatre warm-up or an evening night cap. Forty-One also includes a private dining room for up to 30 guests.

    Too dark had to use the phone to read the menu. Great service except the main arrived as they cleared my starter. Putine was cold but that much food it didn't matter I didn't eat it.

    Thank you for your review. We just ordered some table lamps that we will be putting on the tables in the next few weeks as they come in which should help with the ambience.     Just another average restaurant in a big hotel. Really, grill 41 is below average. In just about every aspect. We chose the place because they accept reservations til 2300. Our concert ended at 2130 so all seemed to be going well. But the place was dead. The host was literally disappointed to hear we were there for dinner. Wine choices were pedestrian. Service was halting. The nachos were the highlight of our visit. Now THAT should tell you something. Steer clear.

    I am so sorry to hear that our service standards in the restaurant was not up to par. That is not our typical procedure. One of our key principals here at the Lord Elgin is “Always do the right thing” which we believe is a pillar for the hospitality industry. For us, doing the right thing means attempting to serve our guests every way we can. I recognize that in this instance we have not lived up to our normal standards so I am truly sorry.     Unorganized serving staff, food was pretty good considering the service wasn’t. Needs to be more attentive to customers, you can clearly tell the serving staff didn’t know what was going on, who’s being or has been served.

    Food was excellent. Lots of variety . Friendly service I thought it was a bit overpriced. It might be because of the location (?)? I would only recommend if you have money to burn $300 for 4 people for mostly breakfast type food is a bit excessive…. But then again I guess everything post the Vid is excessive and over priced

    We went for Easter Brunch. We were very disappointed that there was no prime rib carving station as advertised on the Easter Brunch menu. This significantly decreased the value. The rest of the buffet food was decent. We particularly enjoyed the omelette station. Service was excellent.

    We went for the Easter brunch and it was 150$ including tax and tips for two people. I really didn’t see why it was so expansive. There was no fruits, high end food or mimosa that would’ve made me understand the 60$/person. There should be either better food, alcohol included or simply be less expansive. I was borderline insulted and felt a bit scammed.

    Service was a bit slow. Also didn’t come back too often to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. Dessert took forever to get. It was just sorbet. Food was very good.

    I was there for lunch recently. My first visit since the pandemic. Good food, nice presentation and good service. The restaurant was fairly busy but the noise level was low. I will definitely return.

    It was all very positive, except there was a hair in my lunch companion’s soup. The serving staff quickly acted, brought a new soup and offered to take it off the bill.

    Unfortunately, when we were at Grill 51, it was not very busy. I think the ambiance would have been much better with more diners. We were there pre-theatre for a performance at the National Arts Centre so it may have been busier later in the evening. The service could not have been better - friendly, efficient. Food was good. Not the best we have ever had but, for a restaurant in a Hotel, I think it was more than acceptable. We would recommend Grill 51.

    Our servers were very pleasant and helpful in finding a table we were happy with. Unfortunately we waited almost an hour for our meals, still not sure what the hold up was. The food was good but overall found the meal to be overpriced. The chocolate torte cake was amazing, best I've ever had!

    Touted as a steakhouse, but only had 3 steak options on the menu and no traditional “steakhouse appetizers” on the menu such as shrimp cocktail, bacon wrapped scallops, etc. They did have side dishes of shrimp and scallop skewers, that you could add to your entrée, which we did. I asked for horseradish for my entrée and cocktail sauce for the skewers, but they had no horseradish, and therefore couldn’t make a cocktail sauce. A little disappointing. Steaks were cooked well, but nothing exceptional.

    Nice wine, nice appetizers, lovely service. Reasonable prices. Quiet until rather inappropriate music was turned on after 5:00 p.m. Everything was very nice; the only disappointment was that music, which then made conversation difficult. And it wasn't music befitting the atmosphere generally.

    The menu was super short. We basically had to choose from 3 mains which all included pork of some kind. Both of the steaks were under cooked. The service was just ok. Overall wouldn’t recommend or visit this this spot again.

On special occasions we offer specialty menus other than the regular a la carte, and menu items are modifiable such as the cooking temperature and protein in the dish to best suit all dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, we didn't offer any pork items on our specialty menu we offered, but we will always be happy to modify the protein in the dish to best suit our guests' dietary needs.     I have had many good eating experiences at Grill 41, but New Years menu was not up to standard. The halibut main dish was overcooked and floating in a kind of broth. Service was fine, and when we provided feedback on the food, the prices was reduced substantially.

    I made a reservation for this restaurant months in advance based on location, menu and availability. As it was New Years Eve I paid special attention that no special menu was posted. I checked it leading up to including the day of the reservation. When I arrived with my family I found out they had a special New Years Eve menu which was $90.00 per person. When I asked if I could order off the main menu, I was given a menu that had very limited options and only the highest price offerings. Not a menu that would appeal to my teenagers. When I advised that I had booked months in advance and was disappointed to have not been informed that the menu would be changed for the night, I was met with indifference. We left. My issue was not with the price but that there was no communication and I felt railroaded into something when I planned based on the information on this app and the restaurant website. Thankfully we were able to walk into another restaurant and had a wonderful experience. Although I have gone to Grill 41 several times before when I stayed at the hotel, I won't in the future.

    New Year’s Eve reservations. Ran out of Pinot Grigio at 6 pm and only decaf coffee left at 6:30 pm. Was not informed of limited menu for New Year’s Eve

    The service was great….the food was mediocre and for $65 per person not the best. It was a buffet for Christmas, the roast beef was tough, Turkey and stuffing were cold…..they were slow to fill the buffet dishes. The charcuterie appetizer and dessert buffets were pretty good but the mains could have been better.

    in the past , the Grill 41 fixed price Christmas menu was good. This year they decided on a buffet which is a bad idea since there are still a lot of Covid cases. The main courses were not up to the usual standards, the roast beef was more fat than beef, the yorkshire pudding was tough, the stuffing was not good, the salmon was not portioned and fell apart when you tried to get a serving using the serving utensils provided, the turkey was dry. The deserts were not much better. Even the bread was not as good as in previous years. Also, in previous they used to have an interesting amuses-bouche before the appetizers. The appetizer salads were good but that was not worth paying the price of the buffet. Therefore, this buffet was not a good value for the price and the quality was not up to expectations based on past experience. I would not recommend Grill 41 based on this experience.

    Grill 41 was just what I had been looking for as a place to have Christmas dinner. Great atmosphere, attentive service and great food. Would definitely visit Grill 41 again.
