Forty Pearl is a sensory Pure Michigan experience in the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids. Our mission is to showcase Michigan wines and small-batch wineries by pairing them with adventurous bites and sourcing seasonal ingredients locally. We are a collective of Michigan-based winemakers, chefs, storytellers, and characters.

Originally opened by Ed and Robert Brengman as a tasting room to showcase their award-winning wines and bring a taste of Traverse City to Grand Rapids, Forty Pearl has grown to be a neighborhood gem in Grand Rapids.

We’d put Michigan up with the best of ‘em for producing some of the finest wine, cocktails, and food and we strive to showcase this in every glass and plate served. Our restaurant is best suited for adults.

    Came for dinner on a Friday night during holiday season, and the atmosphere was surprisingly peaceful. Service was timely and kind, food was excellent! We had the mushroom soup, house salad, and the salmon dish that was on special, and all looked beautiful and were delicious.

    My friends and I ate here before a concert. The food was very good, and the server was friendly. Those were the main highlights. The first thing we noticed was how overly bright the lighting is. I don't love a dark restaurant, but the lights were a little intense. The most frustrating part of the experience was that we were seated next to a table of 8 that was extremely loud. To the point that we ate as quickly as we could and decided to get a drink elsewhere so we could actually hear one another. You could tell that the other nearby smaller tables were very uncomfortable with the volume. Obviously this is not the fault of the restaurant, but there is also zero noise-dampening in the space. Soft panels on the ceiling would make a big difference. I also think we could have be seated on the other side of the restaurant rather than be placed next to an obviously noisy group. I will more than likely visit again, but if we're seated next to a group like that again I'll need to request a different table, or I'll need to dine elsewhere.

    First time at 40 Pearl and enjoyed it ! I prefer a little division with some barriers from other guests but other than that no other complaints.

    Menu was different than the one posted on the website. The items we specifically went there for were no longer offered. Service was fairly slow even though the restaurant wasn't busy and the waiter showed little concern about not having the items we come there for.

    Nice ambiance, very friendly staff. Food was ok. My only complaint is we told our waiter when we sat down (at 5:30) we were going to a 7:30 show at Devos. We order drinks and an appetizer and our meal (salad) all at the same time. Our drink came - 15 minute later our cold appetizer. We asked for more bread for our appetizer. It came at 6:50. I asked for our salads at that time, they arrived at 6:55. We ate in 10 minutes and rushed to get out the door and walk to theater. So disappointed with the poor timing. And our kale salad was all spinach, not a piece of kale to be seen!

    Food is so yummy! Really enjoyed the intimate service. Not a huge fan of the wine menu as I don't enjoy Michigan reds but we most definitely will come back!

    We tried Forty Pearl on a whim when looking for a different place to meet old friends. Service was very friendly. Interesting cocktails. Bluegill platter was amazingly good, as were the cheese curds and whitefish dip appetizers.

    Great food and great service. Our server Anna was also working the bar. She made great drinks and the food came out really quickly. Forty Pearl did not disappoint. The Gluten Free Carrot Cake was AMAZING!!!

    The food and service was fabulous sitting at the bar! The restaurant is very cute, but maybe a little too bright during evening hours. The salmon and chicken entrees and desserts were delicious!

    We invited friends for dinner at 7pm and the evening was a disappointing experience. After we ordered cocktails, they was great, the waitress told us they are out of salad . The appetizers was great , Burrata and Whitefish dip. So we wanted to order our main dishes, we was told they are now out of venison chilli . So we all had to find something new. We ended with 2 bluegill sandwiches ( the fish was very little and cold ) , the burger ( was also not warm ) and the creamy bean & mushroom soup ( was actually a broth with mushrooms, not creamy at all and also cold )  and when the soup came she almost spilt and I had to ask for a new spoon . We spended 200 $ for this evening. It’s for sure that we will not return soon for dinner.

    The cheese curds were very good. The restaurant was bright and open feeling and the music was tasteful and at the correct volume. Service was great. The only knock was the cheese cake was not very good.

    Meh. Service was spotty. We had to wait 30 minutes between our appetizer and our mains. Pretty sure they took our mains to the wrong table. Our mains (salmon and walleye) could have used more seasoning. The brussels sprouts appetizer was really good. WIne list was OK.

    Delicious food and friendly service. Always happy to dine here. Brought my 6 year old and 10 month old, and it was loud enough that they weren’t bothersome to other diners.

    Our server was delightful, the wine was great, and the food...the food was an absolute treat for the tastebuds. Such an expert mixing of flavors! This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in years. 500% recommend!

    The food was incredible but it took 25 minutes to receive a cocktail. I believe they were just super short staffed. Thankfully we weren’t in a rush and we able to enjoy the company of our guests.

    Food was so so but the service was horrible. For a place to pride, self on its wine and being a casual fine dining place. It was shocking that the service was so bad. It really made a difference to the evening. I would not recommend this place.

    Burger was undercooked and I returned it and they offered me half off a meal that I didn’t even eat! Waitress was nice but manager needs to be replaced, won’t be back.
