We loved our time at Founding Farmers. Everything was perfect, and we look forward to going again.
Great service and quality food. Went for brunch but will be back for lunch.
It was a nice, laid back place! Perfect for a quick date while enjoying great food. Our server (Jess) and hostess (a caucasian male) were super nice and helpful.
Table was ready later than reservations I set. I ordered a caramel latte with almond milk that didn’t have caramel in it so I switched it for hot chocolate and that wasn’t made with almond milk.
We ate in their heated outdoor tent, which was still a little chilly, but overall not too bad considering it was in the 20’s outside...and there’s only so much you can do to dress up a big white tent, so I thought they did a nice job with the lighting. The drinks & food warmed us up and was amazing! Love their skillet cornbread as an app!!! The only downside was they forgot to bring out the soup my hubby ordered to start with, but they took it right off the bill and apologized. Otherwise, the waitress was very attentive and friendly! Overall, we had a great time, great food, and look forward to the next time!
I love coming here. This last time, I was seated upstairs for the first time and I love it more upstairs than downstairs. The ambience is more relaxing in my opinion. As always, the service was great, with attentive servers and quick food service with great portions. I never thought I would go to an actual restaurant and order a hotdog, but their Chicago Dog is so filling.
Great service, horrible food!
Great restaurant.
This is not worth the hype. We waited outside for 20 minutes after our reservation time. The food was really basic and the servers were understaffed. Our food came before our drinks too. There are much better brunch spots in DC.
Hi Linds: I am very sorry your recent experience was a total bust on our end. :( You are totally right- we dropped the ball here and again, I apologize the outcome of your visit got the best of our team this time. That said, I'd love the chance to touch base and turn this around! I will send you a DM with my email address to continue this conversation. -Amy
The food and service was great. It was my first time dining there and it won't be my last.
I had a terrible experience at Founding Farmers. The food was cold with rotting vegetables.
Oh no! Waleska, I am so sorry to read this. :( I feel awful this experience fell short and sadly both the food & ambience failed to measure up. That said, I'd love the opportunity to connect and make this right. I will send you a follow up message to connect further. -Amy
It’s was great. A little cool in the tent but I would rather that then not be able to eat there!! The food and service was excellent!!
Great food and atmosphere. We were able to walk from our hotel and had a great dinner while dropping our son off at GWU. Thanks!
Wonderful time!
The outdoor dining accommodations compared to other restaurants in the area are mediocre. Additionally, the food and service weren't great. I don't have very high standards to meet, but this restaurant failed to meet the mark.
Oh gosh! I am so very sorry to read that your overall experience failed to measure up and you're right- we clearly dropped the ball here. :( This said, I'd love to follow up with you to turn around your disappointment with the outcome to your visit and will send you a DM with my email address to continue this conversation. -Amy
Good food but taxed
Food was great! It was a little loud in the tent. Otherwise it was amazing, I wish brunch was served all day.
They advertise heated outdoor tents, but they are not heated, and the cold wind rushing through them makes them very uncomfortable to sit down in. Don't say you have heated tents on your website when they aren't heated - at 40 degrees with high winds outside, knowing this information would have changed my decision as to whether to go out to eat that day. Secondly, the breakfast chicken and waffles comes with two pitifully small pieces of chicken. Overall, disappointing experience. That said, the service was excellent, and all our servers and the hostess did a fantastic job. But management needs to pay closer attention to food quality and outdoor dining - sitting in a chilly wind tunnel for 90 minutes was really an awful experience. Either heat the tents, or be honest about it.
Hi Jaime: I am so sorry this experience was met with a cold environment and a subpar meal. :( I would love the chance to follow up about your review and offer a way to turn this around! I will send you a DM with my contact info in hopes to continue this conversation. -Amy
The seating area has been accommodated to serve customers during covid-winter. It is a good alternative for people still to enjoy the great food and service. Beverages are pricey $6 for hot chocolate or tea. Yet, I look forward to going back and ordering the chicken waffles :)
good food, wish the heater was on the whole time. Turned off during the meal
Food was great! I always get the chicken and waffles 🧇
Excellent! Highly recommend it!
Delicious hot chocolate and a great place to have a good conversation ;)
Food was excellent and felt very safe with their Covid precautions.
Thanks JoAnne for sharing this with us! We appreciate it and hope to welcome you back again soon! -Amy
A forever favorite in town. However, no heaters in the outdoor seating area, it was freezing cold:(
Lives up to the hype. We sat outside in tents and it was still wonderful.
Loved it. Great service. Great food. Great environment.
I love this restaurant. Great food. Super service.
Definitely not a place during cold weather. Site states heated tents but failed to state temperature was still very uncomfortable to enjoy any food or ambience. Even with the pandemic, the setup to ensure air circulation was horrible. Options were to sit outside with heaters and no other protection from the elements or in a heated tent where one side is left open for “COVID” and heat pumped thru a “vent” that barely had any heat. We asked the servers for options and were told nothing could be done. Every table (6) filled in tent had customers we shared same uncomfortable situation. We found humor in it but overall it was unacceptable. And the artichoke dip made my entire party of 3 very ill. Our first experience was not good but our excitement to try it may give it another attempt but another location.
Hi FrozenKoKo: Thank you for your feedback and I am so very sorry you were disappointed with our outdoor dining options & ended up being uncomfortable during the duration of your visit. :( I also apologize you & your guests felt ill after joining us. This all said, I would love to follow up about your review and will send you a DM with my email address to connect further. -Amy
Great services! The outdoor tent was a great way to eat out in the cool. The tent could have been a little warmer but the service was great. The food was delicious. They even quickly fixed an issue with one of our orders in a generous manner. Would totally return !
The food and service were fantastic. The atmosphere was nice considering the corona restrictions.
Honestly the food was just really disappointing. Pot pie had tons of onion and 1 piece of potato and little chicken. The pot roast was average. Both needed salt and pepper. The cornbread appetizer was very so so and the beignets were an oily mess. Service was great. Wines by the glass were very good but expensive $17 each. Wouldn’t go back.
Thanks Les for sharing your feedback with us and I am super sorry for the disappointments with our food & prices for wines by the glass. :( I would love to connect and hopefully turn around your decision to not return...I will be sending you a follow up note with my email address and look forward to connecting further. -Amy
This is a go to place in DC. The food is amazing. The service is first rate. We love everything about it. The only reason I made ambience a little low is because we were outside, which is not as nice as inside.
A res for 4, emailed from restaurant indicated heated tents. Tents were not heated. The wait for everything was very long, and the food was cold. We had to use an app on our cell phones for a menu and could not see prices. A $14 rum and coke? The servers were spread all over the place and therefore we didn’t see ours very often. But the worst part was the cold! Poor tent and propane heater layout. Way overpriced for the service and food provided. This may be a fine dining facility when all inside but they should consider other ways of serving or even menu changes to help deal with the current situation-heat & plate covers, anyone? A heated air fan, like many people use for tents? Quite sad for what should have been a nice dinner with small inconvenience due to COVID. Instead, the management brought it to a freezing table and cold food and overpriced cocktails didn’t impress. The server did recall our order without notes so she was good, but the layout and experience was miserable. The management needs to rethink this. Provide your team with the tools they need to bring the experience up.
I am super sorry for the disappointments with the food & ambience during this experience. :( You're absolutely right- we need to do better & your feedback will help get us there! Our intentions are to still provide a wonderful time by all counts for our guests (now more than ever!) and we sincerely apologize this was not the case this time. With this said, I'd love to touch base and hopefully turn around the poor impression we left you with. I will send you a DM with my email address. -Amy
Their outdoor tent was not heated where our table was and I froze.
Birthday dinner
Fantastic service and even better food! The outdoor tents were roomy and I always felt like my space was respected, would definitely go back again!
I recommend this restaurant! The food is amazing.
Hi Alina: I am very sorry for the wait outside when you had a reservation, and also apologize for the unavailable table indoors (right now, it is against DC regulation to seat tables inside). :( That said, I feel terrible this was unknown & your visit started off and ended up on a low note. I would love to turn this around and will send you a DM with my email address to continue this conversation. -Amy
Everything was delicious. It was very pricey though.
The restaurant did a fantastic job at accommodating outdoor seating during this pandemic. The food was incredible and reasonably priced!
Thank you, Trinity! We really appreciate you sharing this with our team and hope to have you back again soon! :) -Amy
