   I will not be returning to French Roast. It has been a favorite of ours for years, but prices have jumped considerably and food quality has declined. In addition, our service was soulless and perfunctory. The whole vibe seems changed and not for the better. Sad to say goodbye, but too much to spend on a second-rate experience.

Our prices haven't really jumped in anything more than an incremental fashion to reflect the cost of prices that have been raised by vendors and inflation. I apologize if the service seemed under, servers do have off days like all of us, they are after all all human. What exactly did you find off about the vibe? Unlike most restaurants we are 95% the same team that has worked here since the world reopened post pandemic.

   Onion soup, Arugula Salad, Duck Confit and Creme brule, shared with a friend is a perfect evening there. The wait staff are friendly and work so well together as a team and have a humorous rapport with each other and the customers. I love going to French Roast! (One negative was that the butter, that came with the lovely bread, tasted like refrigerator instead of good french butter. On a previous visit the Profiteroles had the same freezer like taste. Stick with the creme brulee.)

As for the butter it is a pesky board of health issue that needs the butter to be stored at a certain temp, when we would much prefer it to be served room temperature to avoid that issue.

   A neighborhood staple, with delicious food, excellent service and attentive staff. Portions were perfect (especially for sharing) with tons of flavor. Try the mussels (mariniere), salmon cakes, parmentier, tuna steak, and creme brulee. All were delicious. If you're lucky enough to have Justice as your server, you'll leave feeling satisfied, knowing you'll be back.

    I have lunch at French Roast almost every week. We took friends from Canada to dinner, and the food was great, with excellent service. Three of us had the mussels, which came in a plentiful portion.

    Waiter forgot us (at several points during the meal). Lamb special was way overcooked for medium-rare (it was well done, tasted good but chewy). Snails, moules, salmon all good. For a $300 bill - service was unacceptable. Maybe sitting inside service would be better.

    my friend and I are ADDICTED to their chicken, it is amazing. My other friend enjoyed her pasta, so we were v happy. Then the restaurant comped his birthday strawberry shortcake, OUTSTANDING gesture. I love this place.

    We love French Roast but last evening the service was not great. The tables are very close together and our server could not get through between tables to serve us. Finally when the main course arrived we received bread and water. The only other time the server came by was for payment. The food is very good.

    Years ago I had eaten at a French Roast in the village, enjoyed it, and was looking forward to brunch at the UWS local. What a disappointment. The table was sticky (clearly not washed well from the night before), water glass stank (was afraid to drink from it). Will not reurn.

I assure you all tables are sanitized between each use, perhaps the stickiness you were feeling was the product we use. The glassware I am assuming the sent is the detergent and sanitizer from our dishwasher, sometimes if the glass goes right from the the dishwasher to the table the scent hasn't had time to dissipate into the air. We are very conscientious of the safety/ health of all of our guests as our continued A rating from the DOH shows

    French Roast remains a neighborhood standard and great place for brunch. Easily recommend the omelette station and mimosas are also quite tasty. For inside seating, try to not sit too close to the server station as it is much louder there.

    My companion and I both enjoyed our entrees very much. I ordered the Capellini with shrimp while she ordered a very traditional hamburger with French fries. Both were great and we enjoyed dining at one of their outdoor tables on a warm Spring afternoon in Manhattan.

    Your food never disappoints! From your crispy calamari to moules, French fries, arugula salad, seafood pasta and hamburger— all were super delicious! And… our waiter never missed a beat while showing a sense of humor along the way!!!

    I am a frequent flyer. The occasion involved a birthday and the celebrant wanted her usual favorite, coq au vin, which has been, heretofore, the best on the upper westside. Let's just say it was a mysterious conglomeration of undercooked vegetables and overcooked meat in a very strange tasting 'sauce' (hint: liquid smoke, not red wine). The restaurant was amazing, took it back, did not charge. Bravi. Rest of the meal was ok, not up to the usual standard. Arugula salad was limp, sour dressing. Bread = brilliant. French fries (also a BD request) were chewy, not crisp, suggesting reheated or old potatoes to start with. No complaints from others present about their meal and the wine was fantastic. They won't lose my business, but since you ask, now you know. Perhaps a new, tired or lazy chef.

I assure you our Chef is anything but lazy, tired perhaps since Chef and management for the most part work 12 hour days and 60 hours a week. The Coq au Vin is a braised dish, and I assure you no smoke is used, it does all cook together so it's a little odd that it would be a combination like that but we will certainly look into it. In fact all issue will be looked into carefully.

    When it comes to a night out with friends, French Roast New York has all the makings for an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The warm and welcoming host, to the attentive General Manager Sam Belanger who went out of his way to make sure everyone was taken care of, down to the bartender crafting a fabulous mocktail for one of my sober friends - everything was above and beyond!   The ambiance alone was enough to make us feel like we entered a Parisian bistro spot right here in New York. To make the night even more special, our waiter helped us select some staples from the menu and some specials which included a delicious beet root salad, Escargots en Croute, truffled hand-cut fries, house Chicken Liver Pate, Halibut with creamy polenta that was cooked to perfection and Duck Confit over basil pistou risotto - mouthwatering! To top off this amazing culinary experience, we were treated with a succulent profiterole accompanied by singing from both the GM and staff. French Roast New York is an absolute must-have on your New York restaurant list - five stars all around!

    This was my first time back since 2020 and I was delighted to find the ambiance unchanged and the food as excellent as before. French Roast is a true bistro - the same traditional menu prepared with consistently and reliably well. It is once again my go to place for lunch on the UWS.

    Love the neighborhood place, the servers, the arugula salad with grapefruit, chevre, pear and slivered almonds... AND I got my burger and fries done to perfection, just the way I like. The creme brulee is top notch too.

    I eat here at least once every couple of weeks and yesterday service was really bad. Took 20 minutes upon seating just to get coffee for one. Wine and cappuccino for others in Party took another 15 minutes. And then long wait for meal . Looked like there were not enough servers
