Gare de l'Est
As Ontario enter Stage 3 of its reopening plan, we will be accepting reservations for our dining room from Friday July 16th.
An authentic, modern French brasserie in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant east end, Gare de l’Est was named after one of the oldest and largest train terminals in Paris, France. Just steps away from Crow’s Theatre, it offers an extensive menu of traditional French fare and seasonal dishes with a focus on local ingredients.
While the actual space doesn’t offer a means of transportation, its loft-like ceilings, deep hued banquettes and crisp white table clothes, will carry your imagination to whatever destination you desire.
Multiple dates availableEnjoy your Parisian brunch at the corner of Dundas and Carlaw! Can't wait to host you on Saturday and Sunday Brunches.

This place either needs to drastically improve their food or lower their prices, as the current quality does not justify the cost. My steak, ordered medium rare, was served medium well, almost well done. The pate a choux dessert was so tough it was clearly at least a day old, I was frankly shocked they had the nerve to serve us day old pastries for $13 a piece. Maybe they thought we wouldn’t notice?
I know it’s a fancy place, I don’t begrudge them the $10 pints of lager or the $7 bottles of San Pel, our tab came to $400 and I paid without complaint. But I was stunned to see that, after being served a single piece of bread with the chicken liver mousse ($16, the liver was tasty), I was then charged another $2 for a second piece of bread! I don’t expect this kind of nickel and diming from an ostensibly high class place.
The service left something to be desired as well. The server was very nice and polite but I frequently felt forgotten. By the time our server got to us at times I’d been trying to catch her eye sometimes for 10 minutes or longer. I don’t need to be checked in on constantly but our server glancing over at our table during her rounds to see if we’re craning our necks looking for her would have been appreciated. I asked for my wine to be served with my steak, I was half finished with the steak when the wine arrived. I expect more for $100/head before tip.
Cocktails were good, I recommend the egg whites one. I will not be returning to this restaurant, however, unless I hear that their quality has increased drastically.
Excellent service, delicious food. A lovely space to dine.
This was out first time at Gare de l'Est and we hope to return. We ate inside the restaurant in a nicely spaced area. The service was great, people friendly, and the food was wonderful. I hope restaurants keep forever the wide spacing of tables necessary for COVID protection. We were not claustrophobic plus we could hear ourselves speak unlike prior to COVID.
Service was great by Kirstin. Great drinks, fun appetizers. The key Issue was that after 50 minutes we inquired about our main course and found out it had been forgotten. We asked for the cheque and left so we could eat elsewhere.
Brunch was not that great;
Omelette could have used a little more salt. Other items like Croque Monsieur didn't feel as balanced.
Mimosa was not bad.
From a qualified individual who appreciates the subtle, multifaceted differences. I work in Film, travel frequently -) with finely-tuned steak, salmon and Matisse-painted salad. The presentation was simply exquisite (living sculptures). Portions were generous- more than fair. Service was individualized, highly attentive -exceptional. Ambience is uniquely respectful of clientele for discourse, yet befitting the adventurous while a jazz band sets-up. Never know who arrives? We love the adventure. Wished we would've had time to remain. um.. In short: discerning yet accessible to anyone in need of a unique hidden gem of an oasis. My gratitude to Dee, our Server, Master Chef, Ms. & Mr. Anderson for the recommendation. I am certain that I have found a new home in Toronto for my professional and personal dining. Yes- (Dare I mention) even on-par to J***'s in Yorkville now!!! I cannot thank you all enough. My gratitude.
Nice menu in a very nice atmosphere. Desserts aren't worth trying though. Service was friendly but not efficient
Food was excellent. Wine was delicious. Service was great. Will go back again.
Ambiance, welcome, service, and food were all excellent. Highly recommend.
Fabulous experience- can't wait to go back
The service was impeccable
The food was scrumptious
and the ambiance was perfect...
It was a milestone birthday for me and wanted somewhere nice to celebrate. This restaurant was the perfect place. From fancy cocktails to amazing service to fabulous food.
Great patio and ambience & knowledgeable wait staff
food and service were exceptional. The duck is amazing. The mussels were not fresh, but the manager dealt with it promptly so no complaints.
good food good bistro atmosphere well chosen wines
A great experience all around! Highly recommend Gare de L’est!
Food was good, servers were very friendly but the bathrooms were not very clean and I did not see any hand sanitizer in or near the bathroom.
We booked a dinner for four with my parents. Excellent service, unfortunately my mom felt dizzy partway through dinner so my parents left early. The staff was very quick and accommodating to pack up their food to go and asked after them when we finished our dinner.
Food was right temperature and served without delay. Server was very friendly and efficient. bartender server? Was making coffee and asked if chicory odor would be offensive. If so would wait until we were finished. Nice considerate touch.
Outstanding service. Food excellent. We look forward to going back.
Outstanding local French Bistro. Large patio, great interior.
Great food, great service. Would definitely eat here again.
Gare de L'Est is a great hidden gem that are perfect for a weekend brunch. The location is not super convenient for us but we plan to try their dinner next!
Always our favourite for any celebration. The nicest staff I've ever met.
We were seated in a quiet secondary room (vs at the bar per the reservation on Open Table) which was great. Our server, Mike, was very engaging and helpful. The service from everyone we encountered was excellent. Mike made a wonderful special cocktail for us and was helpful and attentive through the entire meal. Food was also excellent - oysters, as well as Mussels Frites and duck breast - all delicious and served promptly. Will definitely go again - wonderful east end dining experience.
Excellent food and service and ambiance. Will return.
Great service and food! Location is great and the brunch menu is different from what most places have to offer
Lovely brunch, great service - will very likely be one of my go to Saturday brunch spots!
Really delicious, special and romantic
Tout était super bon, je recommande mille fois ce resto ! De l'entrée au dessert nous nous sommes régalés !
My Canadian friends raved about this restaurant so I decided to take them out there, and I was not disappointed. Food and service were excellent. A bit pricey though.
Always lovely service and delicious food!
Great spot for brunch. Lovely patio! Will definitely return
Great food and outstanding service. A good neighbourhood restaurant with a large patio.
The staff are particularly good, thank you very much
Great food and excellent service. The duck was amazing.
Overpriced... a dozen of oysters are $48! my dinner for 2 ppl was almost $300, food was good but not $300 good
Always amazing. Great service.
Outstanding service, unique experience as they have an open kitchen, the kitchen operates like a well oiled machine. The food was fantastic, a great place to share a bunch of starters and order your own main! The menu is small and feels very well thought out using the freshest and most in season ingredients.
The food was great. The drinks were great. The service was wonderful. The ambience was amazing! We happened to go on a night with live music, which was a string quartet playing mainly contemporary music. Would definitely go again!
