General Sutter Inn
The real star of General Sutter Inn restaurant is the wine menu. Developed by the general manager and revised by local wine professionals, the menu features not only wines but also a variety of whiskey, scotch and bourbon choices. You can also try one of the General Sutter Inn signature cocktails to finish off your evening.
Both my wife and I had the Steak Frittes. Salads and drinks were good. Service was good if not a little understaffed. The problem came with the delivery of our entree's. Both steaks were luke warm at best. My wife's fries (frittes) were hot and fresh. Mine were cold. At this level of restaurant and at this price point there should be no excuse for this poor execution of temperature discipline.
Our food was excellent and our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu as well as the adult drinks and made wonderful recommendations for both! I cannot wait to go back!!
Good food. Cute place. Service was great and I would recommend it to friends and family.
Warm and welcoming atmosphere, homey, with a fire going in the fireplace. Excellent food, fairly priced. I had chicken and leek pot pie--yummy! Everyone else in our party loved their meals (crab cake; chicken tikka marsala; bangers and mash). Service was excellent.
Great place and food, lovely historic features ! But 4/6 of our group wearing hearing aides made communication difficult and a bit stressful!
A bit noisy. We requested a quiet table weeks ahead. Food just ok. Nothing stood out as outstanding.
The service was terrible! Our waitress walked past our table 6 times after we finished our entree and did not address us. She visited the tables on either side of us repeatedly. We wanted to have dessert but after waiting 25 minutes we asked her for the check. When we paid our bill, we had to flag her down to have our card returned to us, as it was not returned with the recipe to sign. We were very disappointed in the evening! My roast beef sandwich was very chewy (not great quality) and the fries were cold. No one ever checked on us once the food was delivered!
We celebrated my Mother-in-law's 90th birthday with an excellent dinner at the General Sutter. Our table was perfect (just as requested) and the food was amazing!
My experience with this meal was excellent. The menu contained many great choices in my opinion and the food was all off high quality and prepared with care. The server did an excellent job answering my date’s questions about a couple of menu items and serving us. The only reason that I witheld one star is that when my date and I arrived for our early lunch reservation we were perhaps 5 minutes later than the time for which I’d made the reservation and the hostess noted me by name and that she was “about to call”. The restaurant was not full at any point that I dined and the attitude and tone were abit off-putting and frankly unnecessary. I’ll absolutely return, however as I greatly enjoyed all other aspects of the meal.
What a wonderful night... My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and we decided to stop in. Wonderful food and service was great. Drinks were outstanding. We had several apps and split a burger. Chili was great. Prices are good we will be back again for sure.
Food was amazing service was simply wonderful. Quick seating
We love coming to General Sutters! The food is always great! The wait staff goes above the expected to make sure your dining is experience is great.
Very slow and inconsistent service. Average food.
It’s ok. Unfortunately we went during the fire and ice festival and they used a limited menu. The server was great but the food was OK. The scotch eggs were fantastic but the chicken Tika misala was flavorless and the fries were covered in rock salt like a pretzel which made them unedible. The fries would have been great if not for all the salt. The venue is nice and has a large beer selection.
Great food and atmosphere. We were in town for the Fire and Ice Festival so it was very crowded but service was fast and friendly.
Was looking forward to trying some of your English entrees but there was a limited menu on Saturday Feb 15th. All of the food was excellent but entrees took quite long to arrive. The noise level was quite annoying and found it difficult to talk at times. Could have a few more bathroom amenities since there was a line 50 people deep at the women's restroom. Will probably give it another try when there is not an event going on in town.
Had dinner during Fire and Ice Festival. Glad we had a reservation! Enjoyed our meal. Friendly staff, good food.
Valentine’s Day in conjunction with local Fire & Ice Festival made it a worse experience than it probably would’ve been otherwise. The last straw was having to wait in line to use the ladies room for over 10 minutes after freezing the entire time I ate dinner because the entrance doors created a horrific draft in the dining room every time they opened - which was quite frequent.
Had a reservation, we were seated and met by the waitress promptly. Crazy busy due to Fire and Ice-Lots of Grace under pressure. Hubs had his fav, fish and chips with coleslaw .Its “ always the best”. I had salmon with a sweet potato ,pecan and cranberry hash and creamed leeks. It was wonderful. I asked for medium salmon, it was cooked past that but not overdone or dry.Irish coffee for dessert, all in all an wonderful evening. The lines for the ladies room!!! OMG .So I scooted down to the men’s and met Pearl. I’m sure I’ll see her again. Highly recommend General Sutter’s for any special occasion or date night. Relaxed an easy to converse.
Fire and ice festival 2020. Loads of people in town. Cold. Great dinner. First time there.
Valentine’s Day lunch was great and really nice experience
Everything was very good. The majority of the people in my party had never been to the Sutter in the past--they were pleased!
The food and service were great. My husband and I could hardly hear each other talk because it was so loud.
Food was good, but sauce lacked a little flavor. Loud neighbor with poor acoustics. Wait staff extremely pleasant and efficient.
My wife and I went to the General Sutter Inn for our anniversary dinner. We had eaten in their courtyard outside previously but never inside. We were very pleased with the entire experience.
We were seated at a high top in the cocktail lounge. Very cool vibe, which enjoy more than than the more formal dining room. Our apps included fried pickles a crispy cauliflower which were amazing. Bartenders are great ... real craft cocktails and well made.
We had a wonderful meal. Our server was super sweet and was onto of our needs.
Great. Service exceptional.
The restaurant was clean and updated. We were back near the bar and at prime dinner time it was loud where we were. Food was reasonable and very good. Overall a nice evening.
They accepted a late seating but appeared to have almost closed down for night. Out of multiple menu items including bread. Food was generally good but temperature not alwAys right.
Nice meal nice atmosphere
It was our first time dining at the General Sutter and we enjoyed our experience very much. Service was friendly and efficient. The food including appetizers, entrees and desserts were consistently good. We will definitely visit the General Sutter again. Highly recommend.
A chance happening on a holiday Saturday afternoon
My friend and I both had the crab cake sandwich which was fresh , delicious, and contained lump crabmeat. Atmosphere is very nice. Roaring fire in the main lobby entrance . We were much involved in our conversation and the waitress and she perfectly balanced giving us attention and leaving us alone . My Crown and 7s were nicely prepared by the bar staff. I’d highly recommend the General Sutter Inn
Love the ambience at the Sutter Inn. We had great service and enjoyed the chicken and leek pie and shepherds pie. Food and service are always consistently good.
Had the nachos and the Mac and cheese appetizers and they were fabulous!!! Loved the tomato soup too! Our server was amazing- love eating here.
Charming old Inn. Lovely atmosphere, The food was excellent. I would recommend the General Sutter Inn to anyone who wants a nice relaxing evening out.
Food was excellent! Server was amazing and knowledgeable. Have been here many times and will definitely be back!
We enjoyed our meal at General Sutter Inn. The menu is extensive and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Two had burgers and two had the fisherman's pie - very tasty! We also had a variety of appetizers and a wonderful pecan pie for dessert. The service was very good and no one made us feel rushed to leave. We hadn't seen these friends in years and were able to take as much time as we wanted to linger. Will be back!
Love the new room and the menu.
