Contemporary American
Chef Stephanie Izard and her team are thrilled to join LA’s vibrant restaurant community and continue our tradition of serving tasty, bold-flavored foods in a fun and lively family-style setting. A few favorites, like goat empanadas and sautéed green beans, will be back on the menu. Stephanie and her team have also crafted new dishes inspired by California produce and local flavors, like carrot-tahini dip with tahini tofu, and curried goat with radishes, pickled vegetables, and masa chips. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.

Located in the Arts District at 555 Mateo, Girl & the Goat offers dinner service Monday through Sunday, plus brunch Sunday. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads and adventurers!

It’s a lovely place and the service is great. The food, however, is badly conceived. Well executed, but badly conceived. All the dishes have the same or very similar spices and components. And all of them just have too many things. All the herbs, all the sumac and chili. But despite all these things combined, they all taste kinda the same. If there was some contrapuntal harmony, it would be better, but there is not.

I was in LA visiting from Chicago and had to try their brunch. I ordered the short rib chilaquiles, crabby french toast and this little piggy, all very delicious! The ambience was tranquil. Wish I could have came in for dinner as well! Highly recommend.

Overall, it was a great experience. The food was delicious (except for one dish--the broccoli was a fail, smoked bleu cheese is a weird thing, and the broccoli tasted ashy). We had the naan and dips, short rib noodles, corn, bass, goat curry and pork belly. Mango sticky rice for dessert. All of it was incredible. The service was also really really good. The only downside is we were seated more than 30 minutes AFTER our reservation time, and the table we ended up sitting at was empty the whole time we waited (I get staggering diners to not back up the kitchen). If you can't accommodate your diners in a timely manner, then don't overbook. Still, I'd go back to try the other dishes we didn't have.

Every dish had an array of flavors and textures that kept us coming back from one to another. Very pleasant large space, lively but not loud.

Delicious menu, consistent taste and quality every time we come! The strawberry shrimp salad was stellar. The halibut was so tasty. And the brownie sundae for dessert had a great texture and taste, it was a great way to end the perfect dinner.

Great food. Cocktails OK. Servers are very knowledgeable, cordial, and prompt. Not super quiet, but you can converse. Street parking (limited), plus ample public parking steps away. Will definitely return.
