    Sitting in the back can be very noisy; better in bar area. Servers exceptionally knowledgeable when I explained dietary needs. Steph was a pleasure . Wine list prices varied significantly and again Steph guided us . This was my 2 s time there and each time I have been more impressed , the quality of the food is outstanding.

    Everything was perfect. The food was very tasty, and the staff was very courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. I would definitely recommend and will be returning to Gitanes very soon.

    This restaurant serves French cuisine including classic meals such as French onion soup, escargot and duck. The food was good but was a bit overpriced. The desert was disappointing. We took foie gras ice cream and it wasn’t great plus the whipped cream, sprinkles and banana split were not letting to feel the foie gras flavor and I mainly felt banana. The desert was completely not worth it especially for its price of 21 CAD. It was nice experience but I wouldn’t add this place to the list of my favs and where I will return back regularly.

    We had the Chef's Tasting with the wine pairing. The food was very interesting and excellent. Not sure we will do the wine pairing. Probably not worth the cost. 3 whites and 1 red. We both thought the red was disappointing. Overall, a good experience.

    I cannot possibly think of one negation comment. From walking in to paying the bill, the service was phenomenal, attentive and incredibly helpful. The food was exceptional. Will be back FOR SURE! Thank you for the great evening!

    Our group of eight really enjoyed our experience at Gitanes. Food was incredible and service was excellent, always available yet never intrusive :). We are looking forward to a return to Gitanes.

    Booked this restaurant because I had previously had the best burger in my life at their little sister restaurant; Gburger across the street. Went to Gitanes with high expectations only for it to surpass them easily with incredible service and attention to detail. Their creative menu and cocktails paired with friendly staff amounted to an amazing evening. The food was incredible, I am not usually a fan of Foie Gras but to have it in a sundae was just next level; smooth, rich, delicious, and playful, easily a must try. I look forward to going back to this cozy spot in the future. Thank you Gitanes for the wonderful experience.

    Food and service was really good! Do not recommend the chefs tasting though , the items that we were served were on the regular menu but we extremely overcharged. We could have ordered the exact items from the regular menu and we would have saved $100. Very disappointed I was expecting a better experience.

    Great French restaurant, perfect for a date night, celebration, or just when you're craving a great meal. Prices are high, as is the case with most fine dining establishments in the city. Great wine list, but you'll find high prices here too - average price for a bottle will be around $100. I'm not complaining about the price, I believe that with quality food and good service comes higher costs. We sat at the Champagne Table, which was a treat! Highlights of the meal were the Coppa appetizer with shaved cheese and hazelnuts, and the Crab Spaghetti (to die for!)

    From the first bite to the last, it was a feast for the senses! It was difficult to not lick the plates without losing our dignity so we asked for more bread :). Try the Foie Sunday for dessert, it will blow your mind. Service was outstanding! Staff had an amazing knowledge of wine and the ingredients and methods used for the food. Happy to have found this gem close to home. I will be back!

    Food was very good, however I would recommend they write more details on the menu or have the servers let customers know that there will be a sauce on the stake. The stake was still very good, but I would have had the sauce on the side if I knew which sauce it was. We had the crab spaghetti and lamb tartare as appetizers and they were both very good. Service is amazing, everyone was so attentive and nice! It’s a very nice place.

    Nothing wrong nothing great , very basic food and quality is ok. Not worth 500$ for a dinner. Had better meals and wines for way less. Seafood, was ok they served canned tuna, not worth your money, unfortunately.

    Aperol Spritz was flat. Appetizer was served on time but the main course came 45 minutes after the appetizer. To compensate for this my server offered a complimentary drink and dessert. The creme caramel was nice however the blueberries weren't ripe and some were very small and wrinkled. The dishes sauce was chockingly thick and the flavour profile seemed lost between sweet and savory. The side vegetables added nothing to the dish other than to attempt to compensate for the sauces poor flavour profile, but we're overpowered in the end.

    While the server was attentive the kitchen was slow. We waited about 40 minutes between appetizers and the main meal. The appetizers were good but the mains were disappointing. Prices were high for what you received. For example the sea bass was very thinly sliced, barely 3 oz of fish with an emulsion and a small amount of shaved raw fennel. Hardly a main. The duck, while cooked nicely and served with a tasty sauce, was not rendered properly. Also both of these mains did not come with a starch to round out the dish. Would not be keen to return.

    It was our first visit and we opted for the tasting menu. We highly recommend it for your first experience, especially if you are adventurous! The chef was also very accommodating when we asked to have one item on the menu switched. Great, friendly service as well!

    Gitanes is a wonderful meal and IMHO one of Ottawa's finest dining experiences. From start to finish everything was lovely and well attended. I celebrated my birthday here and it could not have been more lovely. Highly recommended!

    The attention to detail is there, as is the quality of the food. I wish there were more interesting by the glass wine options and that the music was more cohesive— it abruptly transitioned from contemporary r&b to end of the night wedding reception music.

    The service at gitanes is exceptional and the food was a close second to how amazing the night was made. Our server was so good at recommending the best drinks to go with our meals and made our night perfect!

    We had the tasting menu with the small wine pairing and it was excellent. All the dishes came family style and provided a combination of at least two dishes. For example tuna crisp with lamb tartare. Crab spaghetti with tomato salad. All the recipes were recognizable French dishes but prepared perfectly and light, not heavy like traditional French food. The wine was spectacular. An excellent little restaurant for a special night out!

    We loved the vibe of this restaurant and the atmosphere. Our waiter Mathieu was fantastic and gave us good suggestions. The plates we had were outstanding (duck, tartare, fish, tuna). We waited quite a bit for our meal since there was an event going on in the restaurant that night. That did not affect our experience and quality of service and food. We will definitely be back.
