   Service was very good. The value for the prices charged and the quality of food a little less so. But thats not the servers fault. One of the dishes we ordered (skatewing) had to be returned. The fish was not fresh. It had a definite ammonia type odour to it. To the restaurant's credit, it was replaced with another dish and both the original and replacement were not charged for. In addition there was complimentary champagne for the person who had to wait for the replacement dish. So coodos for the recovery.

   The restaurant and cuisine offered are poorly conceptualized. We could not tell if it was fusion or it was trying to be something else. The food was not exceptional. Some meals were poorly constructed in terms of combinations of tastes; others, we could have prepared at home. Staff seemed lost and as a result service was chaotic. The most successful dish was the pasta dish as the pasta was cooked al dente, as it should.

   Excellente soirée avec la formule expérience. Le sous chef nous apportait les plats et prenait le temps de nous les décrire. La cuisine était fine et délicieuse. Le service aux petits oignons. Un belle expérience à découvrir!

   I have been to Gitanes before and loved it, but I was not as impressed this time. Moules et frites was ok, the crab spaghetti had a generous portion of crabmeat which is great, but it would’ve been nice to know that the sauce contained cilantro as it is a taste that not everyone appreciates. The beef tartare was good, but I would no go back for it. The service is always good, the wine too, I will go back, but the menu this time season wasn’t my cup of tea!

   Great meal and experience overall - the service could have been a bit better, I found it to be disconnected, I think the server had way too many tables.

    The food was delicious but the music was too loud so was able to hear other guests. We asked if they could lower the volume. They did temporarily then it was turned louder which definitely made our conversation impossible to hear. Our server was pleasant but she repeatedly forgot to bring us the proper cutlery so it was annoying that we had to keep asking for more knives & forks. Considering we were celebrating our anniversary it was disappointing.

    Been here twice. First time was great - A+ plates and service. This time was a D. Steak frites served room temperature and smothered in a rich bone marrow sauce that completely hid the steak. Delicate crab pasta served in a heavy cream sauce with fried breadcrumbs that completely hid the crab. Service was also extremely slow and inattentive. Took 3 hours from beginning to end and we didn’t even order dessert. Premium prices for a subpar experiences. Won’t be back a third time.

    We enjoyed our experience at Gitane on May 11, 2023. Anna offered sophisticated, spotless service. Stephanie remembered us from previous visits and selected a beautiful bottle of champagne for my friend and me. The seafood platter was terrific. We enjoyed the french fries too, one of the best we've ever had. Thank you for the great experience; it meant a lot to us as two friends catching up. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

    My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by having dinner at Gitanes. Food was bang on delicious. Service was great and knew the menu well when asked questions. The only downfall would be the window seating during the cold months. We sat in the cozy back side of the restaurant. We will go back to experience warmer seating this summer when the patio and the large front windows open. We recommend trying it out. Thank you Gitanes for the lovely evening.

    Original, bon accueil et service, en revanche, regardez la carte et le menu avant de vous y rendre, car le choix est inhabituel et peut devenir compliqué avec des amis habitués de la présence de plats classiques... Quand ici les entrées sont sur une thématique, toutes les entrées auront ce point commun, et donc pas d'alternative... Par exemple : tout issu de la mer... Le plat principal était top, mais pas de garniture ou presque... Une quenelle de "purée" excellente, mais on peut rester sur sa faim... Le "choix" parmi 3 desserts fait aussi que vous n'en prenez pas... Je conseil à Gitanes d'identifier deux entres, plats et desserts signature, plus classiques, pour vendre davantage aux accompagnateurs des amateurs de leur cuisine originale.

    Good food, a bit on the higher price range for the atmosphere and selection of menu choice. We mentioned that it was one of our guests' birthday and they didn't even acknowledge them, that was disappointing.

    Chose Gitanes for a nice birthday dinner treat. They were very accommodating of a celiac diet and mollusk allergy. All of the food was quality and full of flavour. The server helped with wine pairings and they were perfect.

    Nice ambiance, good service, hit-or-miss food. Pommes Dauphine were excellent, whole fish was not. Perhaps didn’t order the right things. Restaurant had called me before to confirm it was for a Birthday and that they would do a dessert with a candle, but nothing happened. Overall OK but somewhat disappointing experience.

    Hey usually I don’t go and write a review but for the cost of everything and what you guys were offering wasn’t worth in value at all…. First the 130 dollars steak special wasn’t plated nice at all in my humble opinion…. The sweet bread was two chewie and dense at the same time where I manage to actually chip out a filling from not one but two of my teeth…. For a 300 dollar night you guys didn’t really offer me and my date the value of that…. I’d recommend u price accordingly better next menu and make sure things are proper cook… like my rib steak wasn’t MR but actually rare… or Ramsay would say RAW lol Too bad this time I had not a good time coming here …

    Menus in english only, all unilingual english speaking staff, although polite and knowledgable. Rather particular for a french restaurant. Pricey!

    Fabulous food. You could tell that there was effort put into the creativity and taste of the food. Had the steak and fries, great sauce. Steak cooked perfectly. Fries good to. We shared the bitter salad which was delicious however on the main menu. There should be a salad in the appetizer section. Red wine was absolutely delicious. Nice choice of music in the background but too loud. I mentioned it so they turned it down but then turned it up again. I think that music blaring is where restaurants go wrong. It should be an accompaniment to a fine evening with conversation and great food, not a dominant. Service was spotty. Difficult to know who the waiter was. They should have taken the drink order before the food order. This place has great potential!

    Great place for a date or a small group. The seafood platter for two was our favourite and Matthieu the waiter was great at helping us put a menus together. The sea bream was a little too salty, but overall the food was great. The ambience was one of the best aspects. Dimly lit, with appropriate spacing between tables and great music (Marvin, Teddy, R&B jazz) made the perfect combination. A bit on the pricey side, so this will be a restaurant for special occasions only.

    Wonderful ambiance and drinks. However the fries came out cold and there was Soo much sauce poured on the steak that it looked like a monsoon had hit it.

    All very good and decent foods. Only thing is their famous soup is not available on their new menu which is a little out of expection, but overall, still be good!

    Wonderful experience at Gitanes. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, the service and pleasantness of the staff impeccable, and the ambience trendy and chic, but down to earth, comfortable and welcoming all at once. My companion did find it a bit loud and had issues with the scent of perfumes from other patrons, but that is not the fault of the restaurant, the low ceilings likely magnifying the intensity of both. We did find the experience was a bit on the pricey side for the portions and the overall menu, but not enough to deter us from returning. All in all a fabulous experience. We’ll definitely be back and recommend.
