   This was the best cocktail and foodie experience I’ve had in Ottawa in a long time. Being Celiac too, I felt safe and secure with my food choices and wasn’t disappointed at any turn of the meal from that respect. Above and beyond. 5MILLIONSTARS

   Wonderful experience at Gitanes! Creative French cuisine. The best sweetbreads ever!! Wine list would benefit from a couple more affordable quality French wines. The ambiance and quality of service was excellent! We will be back for sure!

Throughout seasons the chef and staff offer new takes on dishes that are complemented by the most well-curated, modern wine list in Ottawa. The staff make everyone feel welcome and attend carefully to visitors' needs. Service is prompt and the ambience is top-notch. This is my favourite restaurant in the city in 2022.

    Gitanes is my go-to restaurant I recommend to local friends and visitors. The innovative menu is a fresh delight for each trip. Carefully prepared, beautifully presented with every aspect handled by friendly professional staff. Do yourself a favour and go to Gitanes!

    We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Gitanes which was amazing! The attention given from the moment you arrive to your departure is rare to find. The food was excellent and they were great to pair the best wine for both our entrées. Thanks for a memorable evening!!

    The appetizers were great but the main courses were very salty and we were not able to eat more than 1/3 of our food because of this. The service was good until the end, the take out boxes were just dropped off and had to ask for a bag. Just not what I expected w the price range.

    Location is hard to find and service could have been more friendly. Food and drinks were delicious but portions could have been bigger given the price. Overall mood was great and would return but with a smaller group just for apps and drinks

    The serving staff were very accommodating with us wanting to switch seats -- it was not too busy when we'd arrived, but I can see how it might have been a little more challenging afterward. The food was excellent, and while you don't go to a restaurant like that for an inexpensive meal, I thought the drinks made our bill a little higher than I'd have liked it. That being said, I didn't NEED to have a second Manhattan :-) Having only a few choices makes deciding on the meals much easier, and you can tell that everything is prepped and served with quality in mind.

    Service was considerate, graceful, knowledgeable, attentive without being obnoxious and always positive. Our sommelier had insight on literally every item on their extensive wine list. Menu was eclectic and every dish we ordered was perfectly executed and plated. All the seafood dishes were especially good (and fresh). Nice people, superb service, great food, nice atmosphere… what’s not to like. Will be back- often! I feel badly having missed this place during COVID. They really have made an effort to make this a special place and it succeeded.

    Trendy hot spot to people watch, hip atmosphere. Fantastic wine selection and execution of cocktails. The food and service is where it’s lacking and loses points. for the price point and higher end dining goal of the restaurant doesn’t match up the lack of attention from servers. It was a 6pm Thursday sitting with barely anyone in the restaurant, it took a while for us to get to order our food. we wanted to have our first glass of Lelarge champagne with oysters but that wasn’t possible since we only had our server take our food order 15 min after our drinks arrived. The steak tartare was shocking - it was dry and the sunchokes on top were over fried & burnt.. had no pleasure it eating it. the beet salad with curds too sweet, it tasted like a heavy dessert which didn’t go with the raw bar plates. the focaccia wasn’t your typical focaccia, it was more like a mini pizza however did taste good. tuna crudo, snow crab were good however, but small portions. oysters were great! Would come again for the cocktails and going to Gitanes clout, but a full dinner service definitely not again.

    Fantastic French food experience. Each and every dish we had was out of this world delicious and the service was excellent. Attentive, helpful servers who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu. From start to finish, our meal was perfection. Will definitely return.

    Absolutely incredible from the second we walked in. Staff was attentive, knowledgeable and fun. Drinks were INCREDIBLE and food was delicious. An absolute must visit in Ottawa, we will definitely be back!

    Absolutely exceeded expectations in all aspects. Tempura Halibut Cheeks were NEXT LEVEL and Chocolate Soufflé is worth the time it takes to prepare. Unique cocktails, upscale but approachable atmosphere, and service was outstanding- from GM to Sommelier to Server. There is no doubt I will return!

    6:30 reservation on Friday, seated right away. Service was great, so were the cocktails. The steak tartar and beets were very good. The lamb was inedible, strictly fat, not even a bite of meat. Possibly one of the weird meals I’ve seen. The burger was charred crisp. The halibut was acceptable, albeit flavourless. Spaghetti was delicious. We were seated by the kitchen so it was dark. Overall, happy to chat and service made up for the meal. (I’d been a few months ago and it was delicious. Not sure what happened this week.)

    Mathieu did a great job - really personable and great knowledge of the wine list, cocktails and dinner menu. Took his recommendations for everything - no regrets! The chocolate soufflé is definitely worth the wait
