GITANO Tulum is a Restaurant and Mezcal Bar, set in a magical oasis in the lush jungle of Tulum Beach. Design is modern, open, and seamlessly integrated into the lush jungle environment. Our menu of seasonal, local ingredients is a modern take on traditional Mexican flavors with dishes cooked in the fires of our wood-burning oven and open grill. Our cocktails are inspired by 
1940’s tropical Tiki bars with local seasonal fruits and herbs, and all juices and syrups made in house daily. Mezcal is our specialty, with offerings of over 40 different mezcals from Oaxaca. We open daily for dinner from 6:00 pm. We accept online reservations for groups of up to 6 people. Groups of 7 people or more, please contact tulum@gitano.com.

    The most known place on the strip for us tourist! Good vibes super busy and the place to party! We had reservations and arrived late and they said we had to buy 2 bottles! We got it down to one but still ended up getting more bottles as it’s better to do bottle service then pay for $30 usd a drink. The food was good not amazing but it was one of the restaurants on the strip that were actually good! You get what you pay for! Service is good, the dance floor is small but it’s definitely a fun place!

    Great experience - excellent service from Diana, very funky tunes but not intrusive, and Watermelon & Tomato Salad a highlight! Lovely chat with Antonia the restaurant manager who made sure we were enjoying ourselves. Recommended!

    Birthday celebration. I had in mind Gitano NY FROM 3 years ago. I thought the original would be amazing, in Tulum. It felt like a south beach experience. I don’t do south beach.

    Server Luis was awesome and knowledgeable about the menu anything he recommended we ordered and it was to die for especially the tuna tostada!!!!! The manager Gerardo and he checked in on us all the time and gave us a nice little dessert for our honeymoon. Will come back !

    We only had 2 nights in Tulum which meant two chances for great meals. Our hotel receptionist recommended Gitano. Although I read some negative reviews we decided to proceed and go anyways. (Later on I found out that the hotel receives a kickback for sending customers). To begin, we arrived and had to wait in a line before being let onto the premises. That took about 10-15 minutes of standing on the side of the street. We then had to wait in another line for the hostess to print out a little ticket and for someone to escort us to our table following a search of our bags. We ordered three drinks. One of the drinks tasted like chemicals and after 2 small sips my friend sent it back and asked for a different non alcoholic beverage. The salads were a joke. Mine was watermelon tomato and tajin. That’s it. The other “salad” was brócoli and 2 chunks of lettuce on a plate. One friend didn’t order an appetizer so they brought her main course with the appetizers and then she didn’t have anything to eat during dinner. The highlight of the meal was the short rib (which I later found out was lamb, not beef.. perhaps my oversight). I think the waitress checked on us one time throughout our entire meal. And finally, the topper on the cake- when the bill came the 350peso drink we had returned was on the bill. We explained to the man (I presume a manager because he was in charge of swiping cards) that we returned the drink right away. He said because it was ordered it had to stay on the bill but the non alcoholic beverage wouldn’t be charged. Absolutely ridiculous. After such a horrible experience and then that!? I’m not sure I have ever in my life not given a tip…but sadly last night I couldn’t bring myself to tipping after such an awful time. It’s really a shame. I read some negative reviews prior to going where management responded asking to make up the bad experience- this is a vacation town. No one is coming back. The time to have made up for it would have been last night.

    I made a reservation at Gitano for my birthday dinner because I had been before for drinks with friends and had a great time. This time however was not a good experience. My husband and I arrived and were brought to a table of two off centre from the middle of the room. I asked if we could have a booth table, as it was my birthday and I wanted to get a cute picture with the leafy backdrop. The host told us that those tables were all reserved for tables of of 4. I was clearly upset, as this was the last table of two and there were about 10 open booth tables available. They didn’t seem to care about my disappointment. I went up to the front host to see if they were all reserved and he said yes, and I asked him then where he would be putting other tables of two, since this was the only one left he put us at. He didn’t seem to understand and said it’s that table or nothing basically. So reluctantly we sat down and debated leaving, as the host was whispering about us clearly, while looking at us, to our server. It started raining and we were getting wet so I asked again to move, they then tried moving our table over instead of letting us go to the booth. We were getting soaked and eventually they let us sit there. What made it a terrible experience was after we sat down, immediately two tables of two were seated in the booths we wanted. So, they’d lied to us. Horrible experience wouldn’t go back for dinner. The food was good though, unfortunately we stayed only because it was pouring rain. Our server was not around and every thing we ordered was through a table busser. I wish they cared more about the customer experience than the prospect of making more money. They also brought out flares and made a big deal for other birthdays in the restaurant and not for our table. This was a really bad birthday experience for me. Do better.

    Food was great and our waiter Rony was wonderful. However our bill was extremely high for little food and drinks. We were charged $15usd for two small glasses of water. Never saw any bottle of water on our table. There were also so many servers running around and dinner felt very rushed. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it due to the poor value.

    Food is very good. I assumed when everyone said “expensive” they meant for México lol umm no it’s just flat out expensive. I am from NYC and work in SF. These prices were still the most expensive I’ve ever seen in all my dining experiences. For reference: we got 3 small plates- fried chicken, truffle cheese and meatballs 1 side- sweet potatoes only drank water. $150. It was good. The service was great. The music is LOUD (that’s the point though) but good grief the prices here are silly. I can’t understand how or why it’s so exorbitant.

    It was a family get together. The experience expected compare to the reality was a huge disappointment… Where to start… music was wayy too loud even though we requested to turn down multiple times with no reaction! The food, forget value the taste itself was bad and cold. The vegan option was a joke as it was a piece of cauliflower. And not to forget in their own bathrooms they got people who sell drugs… and when asked pretending or people dumb not knowing about it!

    Gitano is one of my favorite places to eat at when in Tulum. The ambience is such a cool funky/jungle vibe. The servers are always so friendly and fun, and the food is beyond delish. Highly recommend!

    Overpriced food for small portions and extremely DRY bland chicken. Ambiance was nice, but the staff was trying to rush out each table to get in others. Best to eat somewhere before with better food and to come here only for the drinks. Also best to pay in pesos as there’s a high credit card fee that was not mentioned anywhere on their menu.

    We went on Dec 30 (day before nye) it was chaos but we somehow got to the front and got our table. Once we got to the table it was so fun, we did the preset menu and everything was good! Great music and vibes 🍾🕺

    Jerry and Pedro made our dining experience amazing! They were so attentive and kind. The food and drinks were delicious, the music was very good they had a fun live band and later switched to a DJ who was also amazing! Everyone in the restaurant was nice and kind, it was also very genuine from the start with our host dani who was also great and welcoming! Would definitely come again and recommend

    The staff were NOT paying attention to detail. When we went on Monday it appeared they were training their staff. The manager and our waiter barely spoke any English. My food came out very late, everyone was done eating at our table by the time I received my food

    Tips should be optional and not forced. If the servers earn not enough money, they shouldn’t be rude to the customer to get a tip, but they should have the bal*s to ask their boss for more money!

    Extremely loud music during dinner at 7 pm. I understand it is a club at night, but it's ridiculous to play music that loud while people are trying to have a nice meal. We asked them to turn it down and they would not, until my husband spoke directly to a manager. After about 10 mi uses, they turned it up again. They also walk around with smoking bowls of some of herb or wood chips every 10 minutes. I guess for healing or ambiance? A ridiculous attempt at being avant-garde? NOT a good choice for anyone who wants a quiet or romantic dinner, old or young. Food was ok, not great, and overpriced. It was my husband's birthday and they gave him a stale cupcake. Lol 2/10 would not recommend.

    1st let me set the mood. We arrive on a Friday for a 7pm reservation they tell us we have a 2 hour time limit at the table but can stay later at the bar, that’s fine.they walk us to a table up by the bar, the section is COMPLETELY empty. They seat us NEXT to a LARGE speaker. Like I’m talking 2 inches here. We ask to move to another identical table 6ft away. They refuse, “that table is for someone else” well … I am 100 percent sure they didn’t call and book the 2nd worst table in the house or any of the other 10 empty ones but they were INSISTANT that we could only sit at or should I say on the speaker. So we left. I was blown away by this insanity from the hostess. DO NOT go here
