   After being at different izakayas in Toronto, this one was a disappointment. The food was nothing better than an average all-you-can-eat sushi place as a comparison and absolutely overpriced. Also it totally lacks the staff's high energy of a good izakaya Not worth it for an ok ambience

   the food here was super delicious and the drinks were amaze! we got the earl grey highball and grapefruit highball and both were slay. the vibe is cool and intimate. the only thing is that the portions are a tad smaller than i initially expected so i would suggest ordering like 4-6 dishes if you’re hungry! we will be back!

    I hosted a group dinner for my friend’s birthday and the team at Gonzo Izakaya was incredible. They were super accommodating for our large group and helped us order. The food was delicious and service top notch. Highly recommend.

    Perfect experience , delicious expertly-made high quality food and drinks, we were kindly hosted by very generous and professional restaurant team, many thanks for a great night. Highly recommended —- everything was delicious, deep fried cabbage was something I had never tried before, it was very very good, the meat and seafood were excellent also; drinks to try: any of their signature highballs,, enjoy,, best wishes

    I really like the ambiance, it feels like an izakaya in Japan, which means a bar & grill type of restaurant. We ordered an appetizer platter of 4 different kinds of skewers ("Yakitori Set") and it was delicious! Also, everyone must try the "Karage" (ka-ra-geh), which is fried chicken, but different than western style fried chicken. It's so crispy on the outside with a light batter and delectably juicy and flavourful on the inside! If you want an authentic Japanese izakaya experience, then don't order sushi. That's not what izakayas are known for. Izakayas specialize in grilled food and for drinking beer and sake with your friends as a fun, casual place to eat comfort food.

    Gonzo Izakaya is truly a hidden gem - consistently offering delicious food, kind service and good vibes all around. Our group felt so taken care of and left fully satisfied. Side bonus, we weren't rushed out after we were finished eating (which feels somewhat rare for Toronto restaurants these days). I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but Gonzo Izakaya is well worth it!

    This is my favourite Izakaya in the GTA. The quality of food is incredible, with immensely reasonable prices as well. The staff are ALL amazing, going so far as remembering individual patrons by name when they enter/arrive.

    It is a very intimate environment with limited seating. Amazing staff who are extremely helpful and can make great recommendations from the menu. My wife and I both especially love the spicy karaage and would recommend that when you go.

    Had a lot of fun on our date to Gonzo. The restaurant has a really fun atmosphere, and doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. The 90's Geocities-themed-website/menu was an excellent touch. The cocktails were fun! The yakitori dishes and rice bowls were exceptionally good.

    Had a birthday celebration here for my partners 26th. They hosted our party of 7 very well. Service was excellent. Drinks were all well crafted and refreshing. All the food was done very well. Everything you would want from a Yakitori as well as all the Japanese Izakaya classics, presented beautifully and deliciously. The hand wrote a birthday card for her can took plenty of photos for us. We were so happy to have chosen Gonzo, and would recommend anyone to go for their celebrations.

    My friend and I really enjoyed the food there, the beef skewers and the don are our favorite! We loved the jap posters, the old tv, and all other decorations there. Such a gem hidden in the area.
