Goro + Gun
Service is always fast and friendly and the ramen was great.
Awesome time! Great food and great atmosphere ! Thanks
The food was good and we had heard lots of good things about this place. However, they are not prepared for large parties. Food was forgotten, second drinks served after dinner, and impatient server who was really overwhelmed and short tempered until we spoke with the hostess. We tried to offer any help to alleviate the stress and ended the night on a more reasonable note.
Delicious ramen did not disappoint! The smoked egg was an added treat for sure! Our waitress was also absolutely lovely.
sitting at the shared tables - terrible and uncomfortable, I kept slipping off as I am not that tall. Very awkward to sit at.
Still no Kabuku but not bad for the price. Server was exceptionally well versed on the menu. I made sure to give her thumbs up. Would eat there again but not the best atmosphere.
This place is always busy and seem to be a favorite for a lot of downtown peeps. Reserve a table in advance if you don't want to wait a long time.
We had the Tofu Tempura for appetizer, then Sashimi Bento and Harami Beef Bento for our mains. The Tofu Tempura was very good. I can eat that all day! Silky soft tofu inside and crispy breading outside, topped with a sweet spicy sauce. Loved every morsel!
I had the beef bento that came with miso soup, greens, rice and lobster roll. The rice and beef came out a bit cold already, don't think it was supposed to come out like that. Hubby had the sashimi bento which he enjoyed.
Service was excellent. Ambience was ok, a bit loud but understandable as it was lunch rush.
Overall, excellent dining experience. Will be back for sure.
This is my go-to lunch and happy hour spot. I’ve never had a bad experience. It gets busy, and service can be slow but it’s always worth the wait. The service staff are always very friendly and happy even when they’re packed. The quality of the food is always the best. I will continue to go back time and time again.
This is one of my favorite downtown restaurants. I highly recommend. All of the ramen is great. Get the egg added too for an extra burst of flavor.
Goro and Gun is a perfect spot for entertaining clients at lunch. The sushi is always fresh. The tofu was awesome!
Always excellent, had the spicy lamb ramen, very good. The prawn and gyoza appies also very good. Oh and Sapporo on tap!
Food is always good. We go quite often for happy hour, which is great value! Service team was friendly and accommodating. Love going. I would recommend this to everyone
We had a nice corner booth for our group of 6 so we were able to chat which was nice. First time their but I’d go back.
Food was great and really delicious! The staff was awesome too! Loved the wonderful ambiance.
Goro + Gun was a lovely end to long cold week, the hostess is AMAZING! thank you darling you are awesome! It was very busy but we managed to get our happy hour orders in - just! I'm sure we will be back.
We lived in Japan for 3 years and have been trying to find an authentic Japanese restaurant since moving to Calgary 2 years ago. I was so happy to find Goro and Gun on Instagram and, after following them for a good 6 months, decided to make a reservation.
Everything from the greeting from the whole staff when you arrive to the ads in the bathroom and, the delicious food, it is exactly what I wanted!
We had the house roll, spicy tuna roll, dynamite, and lobster roll with the sticky buns. We loved everything! Will definitely be back!
The food is great. There are many items to choose from. The service is amazing
Great food and such an amazing atmosphere!!! The staff was excellent. And the food was amazing I definitely recommend getting the California lobster roll!
Food was great, service was very good, but it was waaaaaaaayyyyy tooo noisy. I had to yell to my colleagues to be heard, which is definitely not optimal.
The miso ramen was fantastic, but I added an onsen egg and was really disappointed by the egg! Usually the onsen egg is my favourite part of the ramen but it seemed under cooked to me. I thought they’re supposed to be at least medium boiled? Otherwise the ramen was great and tasty. Loved the saison beer and the staff was friendly!
The atmosphere was very loud and always seems to be that way when we enter the restaurant, either from people being there or even the music being loud. I don't want to listen to high volume music when I eat, I come to chat with my friends.
This is a common issue ive had when coming to goro and have even had to request the music be turned down. This isn't a club type restaurant, please remember that people don't want to be yelling at each other just to have a conversation.
We have been to Goro + Gun a few times now, service / food / ambiance is always fantastic. Thoroughly enjoy there great happy hour prices, the serving staff is engaging and personable!
Convenient location that can be accessed by the +15. Service was slow and the place wasn't particularly busy although it was during a weekday lunch hour. Food was decent.
Food and service are excellent, great weekday lunch spot, definitely need a reservation, highly recommended.
good food, nice ambiance, within +15 if you work downtown... all of these makes it a great experience at Goro+Gun!
Two of our group ordered ramen and the other three ordered sushi. The ramen arrived at the table at least 30 mins before the sushi, if not more. It was a bit uncomfortable to have half of the group eating while the other half watched. We mentioned this to our server who sent the manager over. The manager offered us 25% off of the bill and free dessert which was appreciated, but it didn’t really make up for us not getting to eat together.
The happy hour wine was good. The happy hour cocktail had no alcohol taste at all. The appetizers were good. The ramen was ok, we agreed that we have all had better. The spicy salmon rolls were good but we agreed that the unagi rolls and the rainbow rolls were mediocre at best and not very fresh tasting. We had the mini donuts for dessert which were quite good.
Would return for the happy hour appetizers and wine but not for the main meals.
The food was amazing and we enjoy going here everytime. The waiter we got was not up to the normal quality though unfortunately. It was his last night so we think his head was elsewhere!
Rung in a wrong order, put extra drinks on our bill that we didn't have and dropped and smashed wine glasses at our table. It was a surprise birthday celebration and was a little disappointed didn't get offered a desert for the birthday boy.
This has been a go-to meeting spot for me downtown! I always enjoy the ambiance & friendly service, and the Spicy Lamb Ramen is a fav! I brought my sister downtown to try it out, but was disappointed at both the service and the food :(
The ramen was mostly just noodles - it was hard to find the lamb and bamboo, and my extra order of arugula landed me with how much I usually get! My auntie who also loves the Spicy Lamb Ramen had similar thoughts about the scarce ingredients!
The service was only OK - we had to search out the waitress after she forgot my auntie's wine; and when we were paying our bills, or collecting our left overs, she didn't even ask how the meals were (I would have said something then instead of leaving this review).
Service was unbelievably rude -- we had called ahead to let the staff know our party would be running 10 minutes late approximately 2 hours in advance, as a courtesy to the staff. Upon arriving we had to wait in line to be seated and the host scoffed at us and rolled his eyes for being late, stating that he may not have a table anymore. This is ridiculous as we had called ahead as a courtesy and were late from standing in the line that wasn't moving. Following, the same host came back to our table one hour into our meal to to let us know that we had to leave immediately, that we were rude for being late and that there was another table waiting. This was interesting, as it was not even an hour and a half into our stay (including our delayed start), so the fact that we were being rushed before the allotted time was appalling. This was a business lunch, including 5 other business folks in the area that were absolutely shocked at the rudeness of the male host. We will never be returning and would not recommend Goro + Gun for any business lunch going forward. Very unfortunate that you have lost repeat business, customers, and lost the recommendation of any future lunches within our business. Very poor impression.
Tonkotshu ramen was pretty good. Appetizers were great.
It is a fun place and has many options to choose from for most people. I am Plant-Based and there are no many options but still you could find few dishes. Quality is good. I had the vegan Ramen and it was a bit salty for me but normally I eat with low salt so it should be good for majority of people. Service is fast, that was really good as we were 8 people. Thanks.
This place is unbelievable Ramen! Service is always outstanding and food is to die for. Reso recommended
Was 25 minutes late seating us for our reservation, ended up placing us at a different table as the party sitting in the one reserved for us wouldn’t leave after they were told there was a reservation at our time. Finally had a table open right by the door but between the music, and crowd in and out of the restaurant we had a hard time hearing each other. Waitress forgot to bring my drink, didn’t refill waters. Server kept trying to take our soup bowls with miso still in them like they were trying to rush us out. Would have been nice if they’d done that for our reserved table :/ Wasn’t up to par from our other visits
My regular go-to Ramen spot. Great food, great people watching and Hannah always provides exceptional service.
So good!! Never had the smoked egg before but really enjoyed it!
Went for lunch. The ramen was very good and we were in and out in about a half hour. From a service perspective, you can tell all they really care about over lunch is turning the tables over and getting more customers through. You definitely feel rushed and the staff take your plates away almost immediately after you finish and ask to bring the bill.
Food , service, was excellent. tho $18 for a tiny Caesar was totally ridiculous ! last time I paid that for a tiny drink it came with a Vegas Show. Fix that or take it off the menu....Complete and total rip off.
Other than that , Food and service was great. although my bento box was a bit cold by the time I got it
Love G+G, but they need to speed up their seating process during busy periods like lunch.
Our waitress was amazing! Food was good and she checked in several times at appropriate times. The side plates were dirty, we asked for new plates and those were also dirty so we opted to share using the same plate. The waitress made the whole experience.
Good food but generally a bit over priced- $7 for edamame is double what any other place would charge!
