Grassroots Grill (fka Deleece)
The menu has something for everyone. 14-day dry aged steaks and burgers. Organic, cage free chicken. Sustainable salmon from North Atlantic farms and mussels from the Prince Edward Islands Reserve. We serve wild caught Great Lakes fish, delicious house-made pasta and a seasonal risotto that vegetarians adore. “Fresh just tastes better”
The kids’ menu features the same high quality meats we serve adults, like Kaminsky Farms meat for kids’ burgers and Harrison’s Poultry organic cage free chicken for kids’ tenders.
Come enjoy the simple, seasonal scratch menu as we bring the freshness and relaxation of Michigan’s Harbor Country to the Southport Corridor.
We serve dinner every night, and brunch Saturday and Sunday.
We enjoyed our dining experience, with friendly staff and great ambiance. It was a bit cold when they would leave the entry doorway open. We ordered an appetizer, fried calamari which as a bit rubbery. We also enjoyed tuna tacos and a burger as the main course which were both delicious.
Solid farm to table bistro with a nice variety of yummy dishes - fish, pork, chicken, several vegetarian options. The bartender is very good - order a cocktail!
We had a great meal at Grassroots grill. It was busy with the pre-theater crowd but the staff still managed to provide great service - fast, efficient, and friendly. Our pork, risotto, chicken dishes were hot, beautifully presented and delicious. We had the creme brûlée and apple cobbler for dessert - a perfect way to top off a great meal. Depending on your energy (aka noise) preference, once the theater crowd left, the noice level decreased dramatically. Highly recommended!
The servers were very nice. however, the coffee was awful, the food was overly salty, and the food took a long time to arrive
Service was terrible. It really could not have been worse. Food took hours to finally arrive and server was unwilling to place entree and appetizer orders at the same time, so party was under the expectation that food was coming when it wasn’t. Probably won’t go back.
we liked the food and drink, and appreciated the packaging and dating (!) of our take-home left-overs, which were delicious the next day. will be back.
Grassroots is amazing. Great food and great portions. Especially the kids. They loved the food as well. Wasn’t loud at all. Perfect. Great lighting. Did I mention the food was great. I will be recommending grassroots to all my friends and family. I will be back.
Best mussels in Chicago! They make a great Dirty Martini and it’s a neighborhood favorite!!
The food was fantastic. I took my girlfriend on a date here for Valentines Day and we had a great experience. We had the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Roasted Herb Chicken Breast and they were esquisite. However, the desserts they offered were a bit of a let down but overall the place was great. Would highly recommend
One of the best restaurant meals I have had in a long time. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and the food is out of this world. Try the Brussels Sprouts or the "Sweet and Hot" flatbread. Yummy.
Great neighborhood restaurant, we were going to the Music Box theatre and our server was very attentive of the time. Highly recommend the mussels! Plus the cocktails were excellent, they know how to make a good martini.
Excellent as always! Go to spot for delicious food and welcoming environment.
Had the butternut squash toast. So delicious! Especially with mimosas! They have bottomless mimosas for only $15. My friend got the hash which he said was also really good. He took a while to drink his Bloody Mary because he said it was really strong.
Had a great meal with excellent service. Waiter was very knowledgeable and very helpful in making choices.
Restaurant was full due a big crowd for a movie. service was slow due to big crowd, food was supposed to take 25 minutes max, it took 40. Had to cut our meal short to get to the show at Music Box.
Small but interesting menu, excellent friendly service. Nice selection of wines by the glass.
Perfect match with to our evening out at Mercury Theater! We made a reservation and the owner called ahead to inquire if we were dining before of after a show. With his organization, it was so nice to walk right from the theater and be seated right away. Delicious food! Look forward to going again soon.
AMAZING, above VERY attentive and on top of every aspect. The food was phenomenal; unique, something for everyone, and delicious! HIGHLY recommend!
The salmon is delicious. Great preparation and cooked just right. The short rib pasta (house made) also very delicious. Reasonable prices.
Food was cold and knife was not sharp enough to cut the meat. The menu selections were good but the preparation was barely average. The desserts were very good.
It was okay. Brussel sprout appetizer was good but really salty. Entrees (pumpkin risotto, walleye with polenta and mushrooms, salmon) were just okay. "Mushrooms" was one oyster mushroom. One. Pumpkin and Maple creme brulee came in a small Mason jar. It was runny; sent it back and received a just fine, more typical shallow ramekin creme brulee instead. Was expecting more overall from descriptions and write-ups.
The menu offered something for everyone and the food was delicious.
Great food and service. Waiter was very friendly and informative.
We love it. Great food, and drink. Awesome service. Neighborhood gem, with upscale food.
Great menu, great service. I had never been before and was so delighted with all the gluten free items and their knowledge about my issues.
the food was so delicious and the service was great. I'll be back.
Can't wait to come back! The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was fun and the service was quick and friendly. We went for brunch, and will definitely be back to try out the full menu.
We had tickets to see Pippin at the Mercury Theater Saturday night. We wanted to get dinner before and Grassroots is literally connected to the theater. We saw some very nice reviews and since we didn't want to chance weather getting to the theater, Grassroots seemed like the logical choice. We also saw some somewhat negative reviews on service, but we figured we would give Grassroots a try. Well the great reviews on food were very accurate, but the negative reviews on service were so far off, it was hard to believe they were talking about the same restaurant! From the time we sat down until we left, service was wonderful!
We had 5:30 reservations but not trusting traffic on a Saturday night from downtown Chicago, we arrived at 5 PM. Not a problem! We were seated immediately. Connor was our server and he immediately came over to welcome us and take our drink order. We had looked at the menu online so we were pretty confident in what we were going to order. The brussell sprouts sounded great, but they were made with bacon, which we do not eat. Not a problem! Of course we can prepare them without bacon! They were outstanding! My wife loves fried olives, so we got an order, and they were also great! We both decided on the fish tacos which were very filling and did not disappoint in the least!
Food was great! Service was great! We then walked across the lobby to the Mercury theater! Great evening! When we are back in Chicago, even if we aren't going to see a production at the Mercury Theater, Grassroots is definitely on our list to return to! In the warmer weather, the outdoor seating should be great!
My friend and I had a nice evening, pre-theater, at Grassroots. The menu is uncomplicated with several comfort-type foods available. Good wait staff that is attentive and helpful and outside dining when weather permits.
They’ll get you to the theater on time with good food and great service. Love their house salad dressing.
Booked Grassroots for a pre-theatre dinner. Was seated promptly, servers very attentive and helpful with suggestions. We had the margherita pizza, vegetable bruschetta and the grains/vegetable appetizer. All excellent. Ambience was cozy, dimly lit, not too loud. Would definitely go there again.
Had dinner before the theatre. They were most accomdating as we had a couple running late and they kept their food warm. They also helped us celebrate my son's birthday. It was a great evening.
Outstanding food. The decor is kind of unique and nicely done. A great neighborhood eatery.
Really enjoyed this restaurant for the second time on our visit to Chicago. The owner and his staff do a great job of making sure you’re taken care of & food is excellent,
We’ll be back.
We went for the thanksgiving dinner, and sadly our entrees were cold upon arrival, they tried to pass croutons off as stuffing (the sides in general left a lot to be desired) and the whole meal felt pretty uninspired. I will say the service we received was ok and the ambiance is not bad either.
The carmelized salmon is so delicious! If you are on Southport, you have to try this place. I tend to get the salmon most often. However, the tuna tacos are really great too. The service is wonderful because you are in a neighborhood restaurant and you are treated like a member of the neighborhood. It was a wonderful evening!
Everything was very greasy and took forever.
My girlfriend was in town and we had a group of 8 getting together to celebrate her being back. We had a great time at grassroots! The cocktails were delicious, food was amazing, and the apple cobbler was great. The owner came over and talked to us which was also nice. Overall, we had a really great time.
This was my second time here. The first time the food was wonderful. This time none of the 4 of us liked our meals. Chicken was dry. Steak was cold and tough. Not sure if we got lucky on first visit or unlucky on second.
Great food, great service!
Very solid choice. Menu is original and options are not typical. A nice twist to some traditional options.
