You can never be all things to all people, but you can make a restaurant that meets all your needs, and maybe other people's too. That's really what Grey Gardens is, a place that at first glance seems like a vibrant room – full of people happily slurping wine and oysters and scraping the last of a buttery black truffle sauce off a hand crafted ceramic plate (that's somehow, just the right plate for a sauce of this consistency) – but it's really whatever you want it to be, within that vibrancy. It's a wine bar, where you bring new dates or hang with old friends (is this a Kelsey's website??) with a really great cider list (and a secret sake menu), it's the fancy anniversary dinner you reserved a month in advance, it's your once a week drop-in spot (you always get the same thing).

It was our anniversary and we were greeted with a glass of bubbly to start. The food was great, wine pairing was perfect. Would definitely go back.

Had such an amazing time here!! I took my mom here for dinner the day after Mother’s Day - it was so easy booking a reservation, and communication was great! Service was brilliant from the moment we walked in - it was just the two of us so we were seated at the chef’s counter, and even though the chefs working behind the counter were pretty busy cooking, they also took the time to tell us about the food and make sure everything was great. The food was unbelievable - we asked for recommendations and ended up getting wine pairings with each course, and every bit of food and each glass of wine was spectacular. I can’t overstate enough what a great experience it was, and to top it all off, the prices were amazing - can’t wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

Another lovely meal in tasteful and relaxing surroundings (I didn't say quiet, but pleasantly energized). We sat at the chef's counter as usual, I highly recommend it; tables are so overrated when you are looking for intimate conversation in a lively place. The staff is professional and kind, and the exceptional wine list benefits from prior research if one is so inclined - it allows for fascinating discoveries. It's the kind of place you want to return to as soon as you leave. Just go.

Every dish we got was great. I wish we could have ordered all of the dishes. I'm just visiting Toronto but if I lived here, I would come often.

The waitstaff was very knowledgeable. Small but nice wine offerings. Food was special.

Fantastic menu - all items extremely good well prepared and presented beautifully.

Amazing wine list. They are happy to discuss your choices and offer advice.

Attentive service that was friendly and unobtrusive.

Would go back anytime. Later seatings are a bit easier and quieter. Quite a gem!

Grey Gardens is a truly special experience. We’ve been here for just a quick drink (or two), but also for special dinners. This place is the whole package: exceptional service (thanks Ben and Jing), beautiful wines (something for everyone here) at reasonable prices, amazing food (our favourite was the hand torn pasta with chicken skin) and an Extremely Romantic interior. I know I’m gushing, but I find that I’m constantly making excuses to come drink/eat here.

My colleague and I enjoyed the whole dining experience very much, from the food to the service to the ambience. We shared everything and each dish was consistently impressive, uniquely made and flavourful. The service was exceptional, to the point of re-serving a dish because the server had noticed it had come out too early and we wouldn’t be able to enjoy it at an optimal temperature. The staff manage the intimate setting by providing spaces elsewhere to store our coats and bags. Our table was regularly kept tidy and refreshed, but not obtrusively. Our water glasses were also filled regularly, but not obtrusively. I felt quite spoiled by the excellent service!

Traveling to town and wanted to check out this place. Incredibly cute with awesome fresh dishes. Try to grab a table at the chef’s counter and eat a pasta dish. The rhubarb dessert was amazing to end on too!

Love the hip cool vibe. The wine list was categorized, in addition to usual sparkling/white/red/etc, by wine characteristics to help with selection. Love how each of our dishes were prepared, a new twist on the main ingredient. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

We were seated at the Chefs bar and had a wounderful time. Being able to see things being made/put together was great. Everything we ordered was fantastic, we only wish we could have ordered more seeing the other menu items being made. A delicious experience.

The food was really good by Toronto standards - some of the best I’ve experienced here, taste-wise. Price-wise its a little expensive, especially by global standards. Service was pleasant and attentive. The music was great! Overall a very good restaurant for Toronto, with great service and nice food

Went there for my birthday and didnt order dessert so they brought an empty plate with a candle and made a comment how I didnt buy dessert so here's just a candle. Very rude, if you don't want to give away a dessert that's fine but dont bring an empty plate with just a candle. Even the cheapest of restaurants don't do that.

Outstanding in every way! We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen which made it even more special. Every course was delicious - we had two pastas that were just outstanding, as well as an incredible skate dish, but honestly, we would re-order everything we had. Great wines with a focus on natural wines, and the best and friendliest servers. They really take a team approach and cover each other off to ensure an excellent customer experience. Can't wait to go back!

I will recommend GG to some people but not to everyone. I know plenty of foodie folk who really adore the twee decorative plates of some restaurants and the little plates were tasty, but with all the hype I was rather expecting to be “Blumenthal’ed”. I wasn’t. The salads were nice, but for sharing plates-especially between five - they were scant. Rutabaga is reasonable any time of year, isnt it? And beets? Having had parents who survived the London Blitz, I was transported back to era of the ration book - gosh it seems one of our party may have already had their beet for the month!
Pretty place, attentive, kind service, and the food was good...but for our party there just didn’t seem enough of it.

The space was beautiful and the service was excellent, but of the five dishes we had, only one was worth the price point. Lamb carpaccio excellent, but lobster dish only mediocre (and $42 for what was equivalent to an appetizer). I would only go again if they did work on the menu.

I love this restaurant with all my heart! Every time I eat here, my mind is blown. The hospitality and ambiance is bar none some of the best in the city. Chef's food is world-class. Seeing the calm and measured way he commands the kitchen is really something to look up to and it gives me a rare and comforting sense of hope for the culinary industry.

The only qualm I have, if I may, is regarding the white wine selections (that we picked at least) which were not much to speak of. I do love the orange wine though.
