About Grey Gardens
You can never be all things to all people, but you can make a restaurant that meets all your needs, and maybe other people's too. That's really what Grey Gardens is, a place that at first glance seems like a vibrant room – full of people happily slurping wine and oysters and scraping the last of a buttery black truffle sauce off a hand crafted ceramic plate (that's somehow, just the right plate for a sauce of this consistency) – but it's really whatever you want it to be, within that vibrancy. It's a wine bar, where you bring new dates or hang with old friends (is this a Kelsey's website??) with a really great cider list (and a secret sake menu), it's the fancy anniversary dinner you reserved a month in advance, it's your once a week drop-in spot (you always get the same thing).

Grey Gardens Ratings and Reviews
Great ambience and service. Very small portions! Some delicious, others not so much. You have to order many dishes, so it’s pretty expensive. Glad I went to see what the buzz was about, but not planning to go back anytime soon.
Great first time experience. We sat at the chefs table which is our favourite any time we go out. Wine list is fantastic with lots of different options (including skin contact wines; our favourite) and at a very comparable price point to the rest of the city. We ordered the trout dip and the chicken and truffle terrine to start. Both were delicious. For our mains we had the agnolotti and broccoli. Agnolotti was so good! We are not huge pasta people but decided to try it because of the kobucha. Really glad we did.
Service was very good as well. Not overwhelming but there when we needed it. Overall, I would highly recommend and will continue to visit.
This restaurant rates well because the owners know what they're doing. Serving delicious food, delivered by excellent staff, you're connected to the kitchen and the playlist is to die for. Just Go.
Food was excellent as always. Cute decor from a self designed restaurant. Some functional issues with the layout, but maybe Jen's next one she'll hire a designer who understands how things should be built, and laid out for an optimal experience.
An excellent meal with exceptional service at Grey Gardens.
Exceptional service, broad and eclectic wine list, interesting menu, beautiful space—just as advertised!
Certainly didn't mind sitting at the bar though was a little surprised to not have been asked for a preference, given how far in advance we booked. (Were told that table seating for couples was extremely limited, but we saw quite a few other couples at tables.) Nonetheless, the bar was a fun experience—just less romantic than what my partner expected.
Looking forward to coming back in the spring.
We just loved this Restaurant! Felt like we finally discovered a spot that takes off from where the Harbord Room left off.. Dining bliss! Great bar, great kitchen table.. Thx Mitch and Crew!
We did not have what we were expecting;
We found some dishes on your site.lamb or duck comfit which we learn were not on the menu at our visit,We were glad we did not ordered 4-5 dishes, everyone of us ,as suggested.
From what we ordered;
Eggplants with beef sirloin ,very salty.
Scallops over cooked.
Sweet breads oily.
The special ,fish with white beans, bland and salty, again.
And not to mention, you can not have an espresso or a cappuccino in This place!!!
Not an outing to remember!!!
We celebrated an anniversary at Grey Gardens recently and were disappointed in the food mostly but also the ambience. We love The Hoof and Rum Corner but Grey Gardens doesn't cut it for us.
This was our first time here having heard a lot of good things. It did not disappoint. The food was really outstanding. Service excellent, with fab cocktails and a decent wine list. We really enjoyed being seated by the chefs and watching them prepare the complex dishes that were just delicious and fantastic. Go here. You won't regret it.
Was in Toronto for a week of work and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and great atmosphere !
The scallops were wonderful! The beef cheek was way too smoky. The small plates were very small. The atmosphere is lovely but overall I think the price point was quite high for what you get. Especially for a restaurant in Kensington Market.
More words are required to submit a review, but I’ll just repeat the single word that I think describes this best.
Everything at Grey Gardens was excellent! We loved the atmosphere and the service was top notch. All of this was in addition to the absolutely delicious and beautifully presented food!
11/10 would dine again. No seriously, the food was excellent, and the service was above and beyond what we expected!
Lovely atmosphere and interesting food. I loved the spritz drink options and our food was amazing. Not a ton of gluten free options, but the ones available were delicious.
This was my third time there and it was fantastic! The service and quality of food is always consistent and we’re always made to feel welcome. My absolute go to in the city!
Was disappointed given how much good buzz this place has received. Didn't like the food. The first dishes were ok but then I had the beef cheek which was quite bad - literally ate one bite and put my fork down (my husband felt same way about it). The server didn't stop to ask if something was wrong even once (which something clearly was).
Very accomendating service. Originally the seats waiting for us was at the counter seats, however the chairs were a bit high for my mom who had knee problem. We were reluctant to voice or ask for another table cause I know there were fully booked. However after trying to get on the chair my mom still felt difficult to get on the high chair and felt a bit embrassed. I asked the staff, she was so happy to switch to a lower seat/table for us. When my mom has a cane umbrella for walking aid, it was difficult to put it at our table, once again staff was willing to put it somewhere else for us. Really want to thank you for all the accomendation and understanding!
This was my first time at Grey Gardens and it was a wonderful experience! I sat bar side with my date and the waiter and the chefs were super accommodating to her many allergies which we appreciated greatly. Going to restaurants can be a tricky and difficult time for us but Grey Gardens was a wonderful and easy experience that we very much appreciated.
Grey Gardens exceeded expectations, big time. The pastas were especially incredible. I loved the format of the menu (small plates, sharing plates, larger plates), allowing for a "choose your own adventure" approach to ordering. The food was delicately flavoured and delicious. A delightful contrast to the in-your-face flavours that seem to be everywhere else - and while I'm definitely not a chef, I'm certain that food like the kind at Grey Gardens, is that much harder to create with less room for error. Which makes the awesomeness of our meal that much more impressive. I could go on, but I'd rather just go back for another meal. And you should too!
Food was good: service was friendly
My partner and I were delighted with our first dinner at Grey Gardens. This is a place where every detail was studied carefully, and it shows in the spotless and elegant decor, which achieves an intriguing balance of lightness and warmth, and in the professionalism and friendliness of the service offered by what seemed to be an unusually large staff for a relatively small restaurant. Not every day do we feel compelled to comment on the flatware, the glassware, the linens and other aspects that go unnoticed in other restaurants. We had the great chips with smoked fish dip, the maitake mushroom salad, the scallop crudo, the pickerel, the shrimp with spinach and a couple of good desserts. The drink list is very interesting; we had a classic manhattan, an unusually delicious biodynamic Savagnin from the Jura and a fantastic dessert wine from the same region. The sound level is lively but well-controlled; note however that it is an open kitchen and noise is inevitable. Everything was very satisfying; I am puzzled by complaints about food quantity and price. Personally, I don't go to a fine restaurant to get stuffed until I can no longer breathe, and the prices are on their website so they cannot be a surprise - I found them totally reasonable considering the quality of the experience. We will definitely be back.
Great food and wine pairing in a great decor
We had very high expectations on Grey gardens as many friends mentioned they loved it. We went on a Sunday night, the ambiance was warm and cozy, and the service very friendly and professional. We were disappointed with the food and the price vs. the portion! We ordered the chicken pate with truffle which didn’t taste like truffle at all and had an untractive texture, the clams were very delicious but only 12 of them in the plate, the fish was great, but again, small portion, the squid salad was ok, and the pasta was great, but not cooked to my liking. This is a very personal opinion, and I am sure many people will keep loving the place. Personally, we have found some gens in the city were you don’t have to put $200 on the table to eat bites and pieces.
The restaurant is gorgeous. The food is delicious and the experience was lovely and romantic. Loved the ravioli and the pork chop - totally recommend both.
Great dinner tonight. Jen is amazing. The Hoof is/was great. Rhum Corner aces. This place just rocks!!
This was our second visit to Grey Gardens and it was every bit as good as our first. My husband spent some time in France this year and has taken an interest in natural wines. We had a great conversation with our server about them and she made great recommendations. Excellent service - free of attitude - and so knowledgeable. Fantastic food!
We enjoyed everything (well maybe not the noodles..) at this place. Thank you Grey Gardens for giving us an amazing experience for our anniversary.
Beautiful space, excellent wine recommendations, and delicious food! Loved the linens and ceramic dishes!
This place is absolute perfection. Brought my family and mother here for her 50th birthday and really enjoyed every facet of our experience. The food is top notch, with every plate executed with the utmost attention to detail, not to mention the selection of cocktails are beautiful in their simplicity and of course the service was flawless. This is easily in my top 3 of my favourite new restaurants in the city.
Had a very good time celebrating my cousin's birthday there! Just double date, very intimate, family celebration.
Only pit fall was that we have called 3 weeks in advance trying to change reservation from 2 to 4 people to accommodate my boyfriend and my cousin's fiancé. We were finally able to be confirmed on seats at a communal table but there was an empty table in the dinning area which was available the whole duration of time which we were there.
This was a great evening of amazingly fresh food, beautiful, and lively ambience, with great service and perfectly recommended pairings of wine with the dishes. The mixed cocktails were also done to perfection. The owner stopped in too, and was very personable, much to the glee of my adoring (of Madame Agg, not I) GF. A perfect night.
I should mention I'm not a big fan of scallops, but the ones here were like butter! And fresh of the boat (not from lake Ontario).
The entire experience was great! I loved everything, including the design. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food and drink was perfect. The only thing (and so minor it would never stop me from going back) is that it was quite loud in there and sometimes hard to hear my friends.
Upon arrival promptly greeted and seated immediately, which was fantastic. Staff where polite, informative and knowledgeable. Food was perfectly crafted with a range of flavours and textures that kept me and my guest excited with anticipation throughout the night. I have been to many fine dining, casual fine dining eateries and by far this was one of, if not the greatest experiences I've had ever.
Exceptional food, exceptional service, delightful atmosphere – cocktails outstanding, and wine recommendation inspired. Will definitely go again.
This was my second time there. I didn't think it could be better than the first time, but it was! The food and service were outstanding, the 2 most important things when dining out. Thank you Grey Gardens.
My mother was in town and she suggested we try here and I'm glad she did. The service was awesome along with the food and we all had an amazing time - would recommend to anyone!
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner. Our server(s) were attentive and informative. Wines paired beautifully with the food. Will definitely return.
