Small menu but phenomenal balance of flavors, Michelin star restaurant inspired, perfectly executed fine dining in a casual yet tasteful setting. Very affordable so great value given the quality of the meal. Desert was stellar. High chairs available. We’re going back.
I cannot say enough good things about this place! The food was fresh, delicious, and creative. We couldn't stop at our initial order and had to order more! The flavors were well balanced and paired well with the drinks on offer. The space is cozy and comfortable and the owners make you feel right at home. While there, we made our next reservation, as their menu is constantly changing. Don't miss out on this gem in Ottawa!
All food was very good, and as well a good value. The dessert was the only course we found too sweet, and over-priced.
Very nice little restaurant with great, friendly, welcoming staff/ambiance. Food fresh and expertly prepared. Selection is small but everything we had was delish
Amazing! And the bread pudding is the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life❤️. I’ll be back soon.
Go for the food and the great conversation with the chef and server. Delicious meal, quiet and casual atmosphere - will definitely be back for the next menu rotation
Absolutely loved our experience at Grunt. Space and ambience were very hip but low-key, all of our meals were outstanding and creative yet unpretentious, service was super friendly and prompt. Felt like I was back in Toronto or NYC - especially given it's somewhat hidden location. Will be a regular go-to spot!
Great evening! Very cozy atmosphere. Good food great service and honest price ! I’ll be back soon!
An evening when everything went right! From the moment we were so warmly welcomed, to the comfortable & unpretentious surroundings, the friendly & attentive chef-owner, his wife, & staff, & of course the amazing meal itself. This is superb food prepared with loving care & attention. The menu is intentionally limited in scope, but this is its strength. There is quality, attention to detail, & pure enjoyment. Thank you so much, Jason, & all. We will be back ... often!
a great find with beyond reasonable prices and outstanding food and service! we will be back!
Great food in very casual setting. If you want fancy, look elsewhere. Fantastic service, very reasonable prices. We’ll be back for sure.
We had a great time. A small restaurant, limited menu, but great food and friendly service 😊
Would recommend to anyone. Hidden gem. Ever-changing menu. Local ingredients. Very courteous staff. I suggest it to anyone coming in from out of town that may not know it exists. Great spot.
Excellent food, not pretentious, genuinely friendly place
Awesome little spot for dinner. Enjoyed a few expertly prepared/plated dishes. Delicious!
Had the chance to check out the Sunday roast and wasn't disappointed. A FULL meal of roast beef, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and an array of vegetables all topped off with gravy and a huge portion of apple crumble and ice cream for dessert. Add to it a very intimate setting and it feels like it could be dining in your own house. Exceptionally friendly staff too. Highly recommend!
Thank you...that was amazing what you did and we really appreciate it.
Cosy little place; a bit on the most side the night we were there bc they a private party. Excellent service..small menu. Pretty good food. I'd go back.
Delicious good value food. Unpretentious in terms of both service and food.
Delicious as always
Grunt is a small restaurant set up in Mechanicsville in Ottawa. It can be a bit of a pain to get to, but is it ever worth it. The place is run by chef Jason and his wife Marie, both of whom are present through the entire service. The kitchen can be found just behind the bar area and both Jason and Marie serve diners leading to a very cozy and homestyle service that makes the diner feel as if they're part of the experience, rather than the recipients of it.
The food is amazing. We went on a Sunday, which is Sunday Roast night - a fixed menu featuring the roasted meat of the week, vegetables, and a dessert. Packed full of flavour, lovingly prepared and staged, and delivers in both taste and wow-factor; and definitely worth the price you'll pay for it. The ambience just adds to the creations coming out of the kitchen, and Marie's friendly, chatty nature makes the restaurant feel more like a family home.
Because of the small nature of the restaurant, it can get a little noisy with all the tables talking, but this should not dissuade you from trying Grunt out. It's a fantastic restaurant that we'll he heading back to as soon as we can.
Parking can be found in the streets around the restaurant, or jump on public transport - it's a short walk from Bayview station.
Nice spot tucked away in Mechanicsville. Went in for lunch; amazing food (4 item menu which changes every two weeks) and great service. High-end food but not pretentious. We are both vegetarian and they could modify each dish to accommodate. Small space so make a reservation if you can. Can't wait to go back.
This place is great. Being from the industry myself, i always love supporting new ventures and seeing where talent goes. It's tiny but in no way does it feel crowded. I very selfishly wanted the porcetta sandwich currently on the menu, but it came with a wait time. You know what helps with that? The beer selection and that amazing roasted tomato toast. Overall very great and everyone should go.
LOVE this place! Sweet little spot with a small but mighty menu. Quality beer & wines. Definitely recommend this for a night out with friends or first date. Looking forward to our next visit already.
Unbelievably good value for money considering food quality and price. Incredible, highly recommend
Want for the Sunday roast beef dinner. Everything was incredible. Would go again and again.
