Charging $.50 for some Japanese mayo is completely outrageous.
Half of our 14 persons party was about an hour late. They let us know that we only have our table for 2 hours. Food was good. Cauliflower kaarage was amazing! Much better than the chicken kaarage. I like trying different foods whenever I go somewhere new. I had the jellyfish salad and the beef tongue. The jellysalad was good; the beef tongue was ok, a little bit tasteless. We brought cupcakes for the birthday celebrant and they did not charge us a serving fee; I was happy about that! Service was quick so overall pretty good!
Great izakaya with many different food options, traditional and fusion style japanese food and cozy atmosphere. Beer, sake, plum wine, there is something for all tastes.
Went here last night with 7 others for my brothers birthday. Food was great as always and drinks were good. It’s a smaller place but great space. On dry and warmer days the patio is great feel.
Great food and cozy environment
Good little place, food is delicious, price is reasonable. Service was a bit slow, waited half an hour for our garden salad. Didn't receive hot towel at the beginning.
It was a wonderful experience.
The server wasn’t educated well, no communication and the way they talked to customer was inappropriate. Te food was good, but overall services and experiences were awful.
The decor is great, somehow they've managed to mix traditional Japanese style with some really modern furniture. Don't be alarmed at all the yelling, that's actually quite common in Japan. The sukiyaki set meal is a great value, as it comes with a couple of small sides. Service is incredibly slow at times, though. You can avoid this by pre-ordering at least 30 minutes before your meal. If you order off the lunch menu, some items are cheaper if you pre-order! Do try their taiyaki, its lightly sweet and has a great consistency.
very cool place, great food ! would go again and would recommend to my friends !
Service was friendly, and food is always good. Have been here many times and have yet to be disappointed in any way. Would recommend the salmon-oshi sushi!
Love the option of pre-ordering and pre-booking a table. Food and service was good. I would recommend this restaurant.
Always delicious. Server was accomodating for our large group. Lovely French Toast.
I have been to Guu in Toronto, and have always had a great experience. I am proud to say I felt the same when going in Vancouver.
We went to Guu for a friend’s stag last night. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! Guu is a great place for dinner and drinks with friends. Very casual and super fun. There was 15 of us in our party and the service was sharp and the servers were on top of everything. Great restaurant!
Food is great ! Wish we didn't have to climb the stairs especially when it was snowing.
The food was pretty good. Some items hit/miss. The entire evening was clouded by a neighboring table that was extremely loud (squealing, screaming) and just ridiculous.
Smaller venue with excellent food and service. It can get pretty lively in there but that's part of the fun of the place.
Loved everything except the dessert
Came as a group but they didn’t tell us there’s another reservation coming up in 2 hours. While we are still eating, the waitress brought up the bill and that was really uncomfortable.
Celebrated 2 birthdays. Fun atmosphere and excellent food. Friendly and cheerful staff.
Fantastic food! The menu is amazing. Perfect for family, friends, or foodies. I love everything about the Guu company. This was my birthday dinner with a table up to 15 people. The service was great, polite, friendly. I appreciate being accommodated in such a large group.
Great staff and great food. Could use pictures on menu for dumb people like me that don't know much about Japanese food hehe
While the food was delicious, there was quite a wait between ordering and being served. If you don't have much time, you may want to go elsewhere. That being said, there are lots of options on the menu, as well as a special lunch menu. I recommend one of the bento boxes if you're looking for variety. It's at the top of two flights of stairs, so be prepared.
Food was great, service could be better, I felt rushed to order and rushed to re order drinks.
Ate there on Sat night, Dine-Out. The horse sashimi was spot on, delicious, whereas the Wagyu was tough. The other dishes were ordinary.
Need more customer service training. The oshibori was given to us before we could sit down and take our coats off. The waiter should have waited. It wasn't only him, but I also saw the same thing with another waitress; indicating poor training.
I also felt rushed. We were given 2 hours for dinner. The bill was given after our dessert which is perfectly fine. We wanted to take our time and chat. However, after 90 minutes, the waitress asked how I would like to pay for the bill. My credit card hadn't been taken out yet... If we still had time, I don't want the waitress to bother us until we are ready to pay the bill.
It may sound nit-picky, but if your restaurant is an up-scale Izakaya, everything should be perfect.
I’m a big fan of most Guus, and Guu Garden is my absolute favourite! Delicious food and cute/cozy. Love it ❤️
Beautiful location but entrance was hard to find and I only saw stairs with no elevator so wheelchair access will be an issue. The courtyard would look amazing in the summer if decorated. The atmosphere is cozy warm and trendy. Staff yell out Japanese greetings when you arrive and leave.
We ordered the soy oden with assorted chefs pieces -less soup like and more just sauce on the items inside. The soy base includes beef, some parts were hard and other parts tender. We also had the salmon oishi which was ok (not as good as miku/minami). Our friends ordered the Brussels sprouts and lobster bisque which were decent as well. They forgot our dessert order so we cancelled it.
Awesome customer service. I love the vibe and of course, the tasty food. Will definitely come back for more. :D
Always good food at good prices. But the service can be rather slow during peak hours as there are only 2 waitresses.
I really enjoyed their authentic Japanese food. All my friends love it, we decided to come here more often.
Very good quality food. Good service. Would come again.
Great food. Service was amazing. Very attentive and gave great suggestions. Highly recommend the peanut tofu, Saba Sushi were amazing.
The service was amazing and the food was really good. Always reserve a table as they are usually quite busy
Great drinks, and food, not as loud as Guu Original on Thurlow, spacious and not as dark. Service was attentive. The miso duck breast was exceptional, flavourful and tender, the tuna tataki was divine with crispy garlic chips, the ga-den salad was cold and fresh, lightly dressed. It's nice that majority of the dishes give you the option of small or regular., always order the regular when available. The Snow White cocktail was so easy to drink. We had a lovely dining experience at Guu Garden.
We saw some food images on the Guu website, but when we asked the server if we could order any of those food that were listed on the website, there was none! Very disappointed. Images of the food on the website could not be ordered.
Overall, the food was delicious. The service was good. It was just too noisy that we could not speak at our normal voice. We had to speak up during the whole conversation.
Excellent experience. Great food
