Guu Garden Ratings and Reviews
I’m a big fan of most Guus, and Guu Garden is my absolute favourite! Delicious food and cute/cozy. Love it ❤️
Beautiful location but entrance was hard to find and I only saw stairs with no elevator so wheelchair access will be an issue. The courtyard would look amazing in the summer if decorated. The atmosphere is cozy warm and trendy. Staff yell out Japanese greetings when you arrive and leave.
We ordered the soy oden with assorted chefs pieces -less soup like and more just sauce on the items inside. The soy base includes beef, some parts were hard and other parts tender. We also had the salmon oishi which was ok (not as good as miku/minami). Our friends ordered the Brussels sprouts and lobster bisque which were decent as well. They forgot our dessert order so we cancelled it.
Awesome customer service. I love the vibe and of course, the tasty food. Will definitely come back for more. :D
Always good food at good prices. But the service can be rather slow during peak hours as there are only 2 waitresses.
Very good quality food. Good service. Would come again.
Great food. Service was amazing. Very attentive and gave great suggestions. Highly recommend the peanut tofu, Saba Sushi were amazing.
The service was amazing and the food was really good. Always reserve a table as they are usually quite busy
Great drinks, and food, not as loud as Guu Original on Thurlow, spacious and not as dark. Service was attentive. The miso duck breast was exceptional, flavourful and tender, the tuna tataki was divine with crispy garlic chips, the ga-den salad was cold and fresh, lightly dressed. It's nice that majority of the dishes give you the option of small or regular., always order the regular when available. The Snow White cocktail was so easy to drink. We had a lovely dining experience at Guu Garden.
We saw some food images on the Guu website, but when we asked the server if we could order any of those food that were listed on the website, there was none! Very disappointed. Images of the food on the website could not be ordered.
Overall, the food was delicious. The service was good. It was just too noisy that we could not speak at our normal voice. We had to speak up during the whole conversation.
Excellent experience. Great food
Great service and food. Gets busy and a bit noisy but the food is so fresh and creative it is worth it.
Came here for a group celebration. Food was great and they were very accommodating to a large group.
Actually got the seat I wanted, so I was happy. Food is good as always.
Wonderful staff. Good food. Loved it
Food was great! Super yummy and the atmosphere was awesome.
Food is great. Service is terrible: rude and rushing people to leave even when we were still eating and restaurant was half empty.
I went with a friend for dinner and we ordered a few items. The portions are small and designed so that you can order a few items and share.
Brussel Sprouts fried in a garlic salt
Kimchi Bibimbap - pork, rice, kimchi and egg in a hot stone bowl (MY FAV)
Prawn avocado salad
Service was good, place was bustling with guest eating, sharing and having a good time. The chefs at the front said hi as you came in and bye as you left...very welcoming place and honestly the food was really good!
Lunch set is a very good value. Lots of varieties in one box and I got really full. Food taste good too. Only one thing I have to say is that there was a bit of communication barrier since the Japanese girl who served us did not speak good English and we had a bit trouble when ordering the food. Everything else is great!
one of the best izakaya japanese in vancouver, b.c.
I work nearby and service is always slow. Waitresses barely speak English so expect to talk slowly and to repeat yourself 2-3 times to get your orders right. Lunch time Monday to Friday averages around 20-30 mins wait even if you made reservation and order ahead.
The other time I made a reservation and pre-order by phone days ahead and they ended up telling me they could not find my reservation and also did not my honour my 10% off for pre-ordering simply because they did not locate my order. I even showed them my call log but what can I do.
This time I chose a Sunday lunch since they won't be busy and I gave up on pre-ordering so I used open-table to make reservation. Food arrived promptly but service was not very courteous. I ordered for the two of us and my friend didn't even get to order hers and her kids' and the waitress left.
Waitress asked if we want a high chair and ended up bringing us a booster. I had to repeat three times the word "seaweed" to get the waitress to bring more seaweed that of course cost extra.
I appreciate the fact that my kids were a little noisy and the waitresses didn't seem impatient for that. Like all Japanese they do have the friendly smiles at all time. Elevator was hard to find but you actually have to go into the building next it and hit a button so the security will let you in.
Food was great on the other hand which is the only reason why I would come back but probably once every 4-5 months. This place used to be my number one choice but sadly not anymore.
Though i really enjoyed the food and have enjoyed it in the past, I have found the quality of Guu Garden sliding a little. They rely too much on deep fry and mayonnaise. Broths aren't rich enough. The flavours aren't as varied as other Izakaya or even as varied as Guu's other sister restaurants (guu garlic). Perhaps it was just that the fresh sheet was not as varied as on other nights. Either way, I still enjoyed our time there very much and the food was very good, if a little too breaded over all.
Whenever I have been here the food is outstanding. It takes a while for the food to come but it is worth waiting for.
Wait service is overstreched and rarely get time to return to your table for tea/water
We had a fairly large group. We weren't provided water at all until we requested it. And when we requested it, they only brought one glass, even though I had asked for water for the table.
They seemed to be rushing us even when the restaurant was not that busy. I would not go back. There are other Japanese restaurants in Vancouver that provide better service and serve better food.
Preordered food 1 hour before scheduled time. We arrived on time but still have to wait 1/2 hour or more for our food.
Super chill on a Tuesday after a Monday holiday. Not too busy, delicious food if you like Japanese izakaya food which I do! Not sure I'd want to go when it's busy which I guess is holidays and lunch because I liked how relaxed it was!
Food was unique and amazing
Food is very good! However, you're usually in for a wait at this place, and today was no difference. If you want to visit during lunch break, consider preordering.
Ordered 3 dishes and shared. Reasonable price. My friend loved their unique menu. Something different than usual sushi restaurants.
Do not go here.
It took 45 min to recieve our food, no one checked on us. We had to ask for water. The food is lacklustre. The ambience is lacklustre. It is nothing like the other Guus.
The food is very nice and the ambience is superb. All my members like it.
Love coming to this place, always great to kick back relax and have a mega sapporo!
Had a great meal with some out of town friends. Meal was priced very reasonable. Service was very attentive.
This is a great go-to restaurant for casual dining. Great ambiance and lovely outdoor terrace with great view of the Arthur Erickson Law Courts. A rarity in Vancouver.
Guu Garden is one of my favorites. The food is delicious and innovative, the service is friendly and quick, and the restaurant has a lovely, minimalist but comfy decor.
We were on vacation. This was a great find! The food was delicious!
Good quality food with decent prices. It's better preorder so you get finish your lunch on time.
It's generally loud, but every now and then I hear some very sharp noice as if someone spoke directly into my ear. Not just me but my friend had shared same thought. Other than that everything was good. Food was great. Service was good. Ambience nice. I gave it 3 stars because of the noise.
