Guu Otokomae - Gastown
This was a great spot. In Vancouver where high prices rule (eggs and bacon up to $15 at a "value" spot), this place is a gem. Great unique flavours, good service. Great location.
Staff was very slow to service
Server was attentive and courteous.
Took half hour to get out food. The place was loud
food was delicious, staff was friendly, we were there early so wasn't too busy...which was excellent for us. Definately worth trying. prices were very reasonable for the excellent dishes. my favorite was the deep fried brie with mango and blueberry drizzles. yummmmmy
Not Japanese authenticity, more Korean mix. Foods look great in pics, but too overly flavored. Japanese food is all about quality with simplicity. Quite disappointed. Service is good though.
Authentic perfect Japanese tapas style! Good service and love the place :)
Food was good and service quick
It has been awhile since I have been to this location, but it's just as I remembered - delicious, friendly service, and an all-around great experience. I took my family here, small children, gluten-free members, and there was something on the menu for everyone.
And lastly, I was pretty impressed with the beer selection.
Always love the food here! Noise level is a bit high at night but still a fun place I love to go to.
Father’s day dinner
Excellent!!! So delicious! Server was superb. A great way to spend time with friends
Everything was great as usual !
We enjoyed the tuna and asparagus from Guu’s fresh sheet. The tuna was definitely the star; quite tasty and melted in your mouth. From the main menu, the spicy calamari was seasoned and prepared well - filled the crunch factor. We also tried the Wagyu beef which had nice presentation. It’s been awhile since we dined here. Guu definitely tries to offer creative tapas /Japanese cuisine for the happy hour crowd.
Noise level quite high. If that’s not a problem for you, guu otokomae is a great choice!
Exceptional. Kaye, great staff who were super friendly. Modern Japanese
One of our favourite haunts in Gastown with good food and cheap beer
Food was very delicious, really enjoyed everything we ordered. In particularly, they have this one special dish called Salmon with Seven Friends, I have never had this anywhere else and I highly recommend it, that is, if you are able to handle natto. The only thing that I would recommend is perhaps an upgrade to the washroom and ensure it is clean at all times.
Will come back for another visit for sure!
We took someone from our office who was having their last day with us here for lunch. Service was absolutely awful. We waited 45 min to get our food and only half of the table got there’s initially. The other half didn’t get their food until the others had already finished eating. I complained and they didn’t even say sorry. Then they messed up our cheques as well and instead of reissuing the bills they hand wrote and did everything manually which made no sense. We brought 8 people in and they didn’t think to give us something for the trouble? Not even an apology. Embarrassing customer service.
Great experience, great food, good service. Will be going back.
Food was tasty and the service was even better! Staff were very accommodating about the way we needed to split the bills, and were diligent about filling our waters. Our waitress kept a smile on her face through the whole bill separation fiasco and even had great humour about it.
While food is tasty for the most part, most things didn't WOW (the brussel sprouts are so good though), and portions are expected for an izakaya (a.k.a tapas/appetizers/bar food) style place, but prices could be better. Overall, decent value.
Great night. Staff very friendly and wonderful food. Part way through our night someone at our table dropped their bracelet and the server found part of it and asked to leave a number incase they found the other part. Had a few people having this type of food for the first time and there were plenty of staff sharing their thoughts on dishes.
Great service, yummy cocktails, interesting food, nice spacious brick-walled room - fun place for a Friday night with friends!
Guu Otokomae is my all time favorite place to bring friends and family who are visiting and really any other occasion! Really amazing food and fantastic drinks all for a pretty reasonable price. 10/10
Yummy! Everything was so good. They probably have the best agedashi tofu!
Authentic Japanese cuisine
Food was great as always.
Good food and good service. We ordered a sashimi special, the sashimi so fresh and so thick cut.
Good food - unique and tasty, good service, reasonable price :)
Food was good, service was exellent, ambiance was good, couple of things i wasnt happy with, first was there was a long hair in my Gomae, gross, sure they brought us a new one and apoligize but didnt offer anything for compensation, and second was we had 1:45mins for dinner then we have to leave, because there was a reservation after us, sure understandable and they did tell use ahead of time, and we agreed, not an issue, but when we got there, there was so so many empty tables., hmmmm why did they rush for us to leave in 1hr and 45mins, and if there was so much tables available, probably not coming back again.
Service was way too slow, and it wasn't busy at all.
The printer wasn't working, but instead of telling us, the server ignored us, and then finally we went to the front to pay.
Service and food is fantastic. A little pricey but the food is good!
Love the space and the food was sooo good. Service was perfect too.
Initialy a very cool place. We ordered drinks and appetizers but then there was a mouse running on the floor, going from table to table so we walked out before drinking or eating anything.
If you have mice in a busy common area, it’s pretty much gaurenteed they are in the kitchen!!!
Pretty meh to be honest. Other guu are better. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
Food was good. Restaurant does not feel very clean.
Not the same atmosphere I expect from an izakaya. Quieter and more tame although some may prefer the quieter environment. We were late for our reservation so I appreciated that they were going to call to confirm before giving away our table - we got there just as they were going to call. Didn't have a daily specials menu so we couldn't order some dishes you would typically expect at an izakaya (Eg grilled cod, grilled makereral)
Excellent, prompt service with food to match! Everything was tasty, but definitely recommend the pork/shrimp dumplings and grilled squid (requested hot sauce with it). The burning pudding (flambé creme brûlée) was an entertaining finish and tasted great (we ordered a second one). We would definitely return here!
