Guu Otokomae - Gastown
Each dish is carefully crafted to art-like perfection, making them both delicious & visually pleasing. Otokomae is perfect for groups, or for a sophisticated dinner for two at the counter.
We keep seats for walk-in customers as well. No available seats on opentable does not mean we are fully booked. Please be aware that the time limited per table is two hours during peak hours.
Sky Train: get off at Waterfront station and 3 min walk

One of my favorite restaurants that never disappoints.
The host mixed up with other reservation and we had to wait for 10 mins or so. But it was ok.
Staff are friendly and the food is very original and tasty!
Prefer the Thurlow or Robson Guu over this one nowadays. A convenient location, but the daily fresh sheet left something to be desired, and a number of dishes were not well executed. Stick to the basics like ebi mayo, stone bowls/udon, tuna tataki and wagyu carpaccio, being adventurous at this Guu did not pan out and we left a tad disappointed.
Was on a business lunch trying to max out a budget. The waiter halted us from ordering more and didn't record the right number of desserts. It was kind of condescending and made the situation very uncomfortable. I've never had a waiter stop us from ordering before. On top of this, the service was incredibly slow. We were seated at approx 12:06 and we waited until 12:50 to get the main dishes. This was a business lunch, time was not abundant and we left extremely displeased. Would not recommend or at least try to tell your waiters to have more tact.
It was our first time at this Guu location. We had an amazing open window seat. My boyfriend's parents and I came to celebrate my boyfriends belated birthday. Alm the dishes we ordered were tasty and the presentation was unique especially with the Saba & dessert custard. Staff was attentive and friendly. We found it odd that they shouted our order from the top floor to the bottom floor. Otherwise, our dining experience was splendid..
On vacation lots of fun and great food
Food was great.
Chicken curry lunch special was amazing, although curry itself was a bit salty.
Garlic negitoro is why I go there!
That’s soooooooo good
Always good and never disappointing at any Guu
Guu was amazing as always! It’s one of my husband’s favourite places. The staff is friendly and helpful giving recommendations on new dishes and drinks. If you haven’t been, you need to go!
The entrees were great but what really stole the show was the green tea ice cream
The food has gone downhill over the years. We ordered mussels and they were so bland and disgusting. Everything else was just ok and we ordered a large variety. Drinks are also somewhat overpriced.
Food was good and service was great! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were gross (dirty/stinky) not maintained.
Food was delicious, one of my favourite places.
I wanted to order the stone bowl ice cream but they didn't offer it the night of. It's something I really wanted. The food was good so that made up for it .
The food, service and ambience was great. Portions of menu items and pricing were fair.
The food and environment for lunch was not as good as my dinner experience 2 years ago. Not as many choices of drinks and creative food as I expected. Even though the venue was quite empty, and I booked at least a week ago, only a small and unstable table was reserved. I wont go next time.
Good food and nice staff. We went there for a quick bite before a movie and it worked out great. The food got to us fast and it was delicious.
This was our first time dinning at Guu Otokomae. We decided to come here for our anniversary based on the good reviews. Service was good. All the dishes came very quickly. However, the taste of the food were rather bland. Which was a big disappointment.
Food was okay, service was pretty good. However, when the bill came, 2 were given ( 1 with items and total, other with bill divided by number of ppl in party) we based our payment on the divided bill and added appropriate tip and left restaurant. We received a call a few minutes later and waitress told us we shorted the bill. When we returned to pay the left over amount they tried to explain that our amount was wrong...when it was THEIR server who gave us the wrong bill in the first place. They continued to tell us if was the wrong bill and we owe money. It wasn't our fault you gave the wrong bill or missed items.
Unfortunately went there at 4:30 pm, and the place was dead. Menu was pared down and simplified to the point of boring-- we ordered the chicken karaage , and udon. Karaage was decent, but it's hard to screw up fried chicken thighs. The udon was too salty to eat, the beef was tough. We wanted to send it back, but the server never came back to check on us even though we were the only table there (I guess that should've been our first clue), water glasses unfilled, couldn't order another beer etc. Finally we went down to get our check -- he was hanging out at the bar. I told him about the inedible udon, and he took it off the bill. I think they should just shut down between 3PM to 6PM if that is the quality of food and service that is offered during that time. Place was still empty when we left. Extremely disappointed. Walked down the street to Flying Pig, and had a wonderful meal, with great service.
Excellent food. Perfect spot for any size group.
It was great!! Thoroughly enjoyed everything!
We come back for the karrage and deep fried Brie cheese - but we’re never disappointed with everything else that we try off their daily menu. Great tasting food, and perfectly priced so you can order enough to get full off a tapas style menu!
The servers were really nice and we really enjoyed the food. In particular, I really liked the fact that a lot of the food we ordered required a bit of tableside service. For example, we watched our mackerel dish get torched, and our server mixed the “Salmon and Seven Friends” in front of us. It was a nice touch. I’d also recommend the fried brie, it was like a dessert! Mmmmm. I think I’ll be back.
Very nice restaurant and very friendly staff.I would go back again.
I would recommend this gem for a Michelin star. The service is excellent and the food is exceptional we had the pleasure of dining here on two occasions during my last conference in Vancouver. We sampled and shared many dishes and all were superb our favorites were the Sashimi, pork belly stew, pickled burdock, Beef tataki. it was the recommendation of a local resident to whom I am grateful for the culinary experience.
I come here every time I'm in Vancouver and is consistently great. Staff was accommodating and did a great job with our big group. Thank you so much!
Lack of Personal Touch or Attentiveness ... Menu is quite simple and less creative.
The food is just good. Every time. And the lychee drink I had was sweet but not too sweet. Good people watching too; inside and at the street level below.
Food was bland and service was hit and miss pending on server
Gathered my friends for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Servers were nice and polite although we found that service was quite delayed for a quiet restaurant. Foods met our expectations. Casual meal selection and setting and we were satisfied. We will definitely go back.
Awesome food and drink selection and super friendly staff. I will be back
Terrible service. Super slow kitchen. Food was mediocre. Would NOT recommend this location.
Food is very mediocre, but the service is quite good, I can only rate three stars because a restaurant can only be as good as its food. I have been to all the Guus in Vancouver, the food here would be considered way down the ranking, on par with Guu Garden.
Best bar in town. My favourite spot. Good food, good specials, and exceptional staff
Great atmosphere, service and food was excellent. My friends and I stayed for quite a while and at no point felt rushed to wrap up. Would definitely go back.
i love guu it is my favourite place in the whole lower mainland definitely get the brie
