I have been dining at Guu for many many years. While I still love the place, the food quality and taste aren't as good as it used to be. Somehow, they started putting more (hot) spices into their food and put less emphasis on bringing the original flavors of the food itself. Isn't garlic your theme? I can't taste garlic as much in your food. The menu gets pricier over time, and if I am willing to pay for this price I have more options to choose from. I still like the place, but I don't go as often as I used to be now.
Waiters seemed just want to get business done as soon as possible.
Totally not feeling the hospitality of Japanese manner.
Food was fine but the portion is not worth the price.
It was sons birthday. Overall loved the food, and atmosphere. Overall was a great experience.
Very courteous staff, unfortunately they forgot about our orders midway and we had to remind them. Weird, considering that the table (they were seated after us) beside us was receiving the same food one after the other. I’ve been to Guu before and didn’t experience this before. Great food though!
Serving foods quickly
My family and I really enjoyed the food, it was tasty, creative & different. We had a reservation right when they opened at 5:30 and were seated promptly and also noticed all the tables had reserved signs on them so if you want a table make sure you reserve ahead of time. It became very busy and quite loud but we still had a good time as it was a very lively crowd and servers were buzzing around and although they were busy, service was always with a smile. I would recommend this place if you're looking to try non-conventional Japanese cuisine.
We loved it! Everything about it!
Food was fantastic. Only regret was missing the front page menu items with more adventurous dishes. Won't make that mistake next time.
Small portion size and they couldn’t split the bill which was odd
Great restaurant!!! Only thing was we were seated beside the door and walk in customers kept leaving the door open, blowing in winter air in our table. Loved the food & service though!
Good customer service! Waiter always check on us
Ordered the beef tongue and pork cheeks, both 8.99. It came in tiny plates without any sidings. Portions are for babies! The beef tongue was tough and lacked flavour. The pork cheeks were so so. So disappointing! Sorry but we will not go back.
Always delicious! I miss this restaurant enough to come back almost every time I visit Vancouver.
A special place to go. Only it is a little bit too noisy and the place is a little bit too small. Overall, the food is good. The service can be better if the waiting staff pays more attention to the customer.
Great dinner at Guu last night. Friendly people, awesome food, great atmosphere
Guu garlic is great, sometimes hard to get the seating you want but they were kind enough to seat us where we preferred. Food was great, it was quieter then normal but noise level isn't too important to me
Food is good with plenty of options to choose from. Atmosphere is high energy and loud.
I love Guu with Garlic! Been there plenty of times and I always live with a happy face an a full belly!
Food was excellent. We tried a lot of dishes and all were great.
Very up beat ambience! I call the place happy meal place...lol.
Make reservation before u go!
Guu with Garlic stood up to my expectations after only having been to the original Guu. Great sharing plates, good drinks and an entertaining ambiance although definitely not quiet. Fun for a group dinner and great service.
De la vraie cuisine japonaise. Ca change des ramène qu'on voit partout.
Aussî bon qu'au Japon.
Love this place!
We showed up at 5:28, had reservations at 5:30 and were made to stand out in the pouring rain for 5 minutes while the crew was standing around talking. Would have been nice if they let us in. One we did get in we were given one menu for all 4 of us. When we asked our server questions like "what would you recommend?" and told her it
Was our first time there she offered no help.
The food was tasty, but extremely rich.
Well..its not a big place..crowded but something new and different
The experience at Guu with Garlic was good. With reservations, we were seated promptly, and brought drinks in a timely manner. That said, their cocktails were only okay, but I guess I shouldn't have had such high expectations for said restaurant. I've been to a number of Guu restaurants in Metro Vancouver, and the food here at Guu with Garlic was very good. That said, there wasn't anything on the menu that "wow'd" me. Guu with Garlic is one of those places that I would go on occasion, with people who have never been, who would like to experience something new. Otherwise, it's not a place that I would go all the time, even with their ever changing menu. For the value, I felt that the experience was expenseive. Still, overall it was good.
Very traditional Japanese food! I love it and would definitely come back! Get all their carpaccio dishes!
Delicious, authentic, and suprising. Wonderful dinner all 'round
Delicious and fun! What an amazing find - The people here could not be nicer and I love the energy and the yelling of orders! It made the night interesting and so fun. We ordered several plates of sashimi - wow. So fresh and tasty. The seared salmon salad was divine as well as the pancakes with octopus. We ordered the pancakes based on what we saw another table order. We immediately asked them how it was and they recommended the dish. We finished up with the udon which was excellent. My other half said we need to go back to Vancouver just to visit this restaurant (we are from San Francisco). If you are looking for something quiet and romantic this is not the spot but if you are looking for excellent food and a fun environment, this is it! The only negative thing that happened was we ordered 2 different sakes and they were out of both of them. I made up for it with wine.
Authentic Japanese Dinning
Loud, fast-moving, small plates, delicious snacks, efficient and friendly service. The sashimi, taco rice, deep-fried chicken wings, deep-fried prawns, green curry noodles with chicken, naan-scallop pizza, and more all were great!
