Gyu-Kaku is my favourite restaurant in Toronto, every-time I have been everything has tasted amazing and the staff have been friendly, accountable and efficient.
The only thing I would change is the sound level of the music can be obnoxious at times.
The dessert was missing.
food here is nice
Meat lovers’ paradise! Fresh meat and veggies served and sides are all good value for money.
It's a bit too noisy.
You may want to consider adding more types of sauces.
Had a great time service and food excellent Will be back music a little loud where we were sitting
Thanks Paul a
Nice place for a sit-in meal. Decent price and the meats are good.
Food is quite good, but service was unbelievably bad. UNBELIEVABLY BAD from beginning to end. Like, SO BAD. Either they suck at serving groups or they just suck at serving people.
The food tasted so good! I also liked the three sauces that you can mix your own. The waiter was very nice, always come with a big smile :)
My wife an i have been going here for years! we love this place so much it's always an experience to cook your own food and enjoy a night out! The food is always fresh and tasty because you get to cook it hot and fresh straight to your mouth!
I booked this meal a couple of weeks.in advance and during the reservation process it asked me what the occasion was. I selected "birthday". In notes to restaurant, I said, "18th Birthday celebration meal"
At no point did anyone make any remark on a birthday or ask us if we were celebrating anything. Not the host, or the server, or the manager.
The food was great, but to miss that note on the reservation is appalling. We chose this restaurant for my daughter's 18th birthday meal and we drove over an hour to get there to have this special day completely ignored.
Another table had the staff sing to them and hold birthday signs....we just got totally ignored.
This team of staff are a dissapointment to the restaurant. The Host had the iPad and our booking right in front of her. Although the server was fine, he should have read the table better which includes finding out what brings them in to dine there.
It doesn't matter how nice the food was if they ignore such an important note on the reservation.
I had a good time at this location and I particularly enjoyed their idea of having ready-to-order menus instead of choosing à la carte. The concept is great however we were surprised that we couldn't exchange the dessert with another dessert of the same price. We even asked if we could add the price difference but our waitress said no. Too bad, that was the grey cloud of our almost perfect evening.
First time here and the food was great. Lots of selection of food which kept everyone eating. The self bbq is perfect for grilling your own food. Will definitely return again.
Nice service and tasty Japanese food, with Reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Everything was amazing!! The food was very fresh and the service was 👌🏾. 10/10 would recommend.
Tried out this restaurant after reading lots of great reviews. The food was delicious and lots of fun to bbq at the table, the set menu for two plus two extra orders of veggies was the perfect amount of food for two hungry people and the service was fantastic. My only wish is for the music to be slightly quieter - it might have been the table we were seated at but we had to yell across the table at each other the whole time. Energetic music is fine, but yelling throughout dinner is a bit annoying. Other than that, it was a great experience!
The food and the service was excellent. The music, however, was a bit loud and didn’t really suit the mood of the meal (ie. aggressive, uncensored hip hop and techno). I’ve been here a few times before and remember them playing either Japanese instrumental music and/or Japanese pop, which made the whole experience feel more authentic.
We went there for my birthday. Definitely would recommend.
-We ordered a-la-carte, but there are combo options for people who would find that tedious.
- They offer 3 types of sauces by default, all of them are really good. My personal favourite is the sweet sauce.
- Hamasaki steak in a pot is a must try. The marinate is amazing.
- As gross as it sounds, would also recommend the beef tongue. It's nice and tender.
- Both of the short ribs were great too, comes with its own specialty sauce.
- The only miss would be the pork belly. It was alright.
- We were warmly welcomed and brought to our seat.
- It was a busy night, but we never had to ask for water refills (and I drank a lot of water!).
- Server made great recommendations, and explained how to cook each dish when it was brought to the table.
- Great birthday surprise! I was served 3 balls of ice cream (Vanilla, black sesame and matcha), and the staff sang me a happy birthday song :)
Overall a great experience, both in food and service.
Do make sure you have a reservation though as the seats fill up really quickly.
Also, it can be on the expensive side, expect around $40 to $50 per person without drinks.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted warmly and brought to my table. As it was my first time here , the waitress offered recommendations as to what to eat and drink. In the end, me and my friend ordered the Sakura lunch special and two drinks. When food was brought to the table, the waitress patiently explained how long to cook the food for and how to change the temperature of the grill. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and lively. Dessert was also delicious as I ordered the matcha tiramisu and lime ice cram (which was apart of the lunch special).
Very good service, quality of food is great.need reservation. If they have more menu of vege ( for grill and for eat like salad ) and more sort of meat, will be better.
Good for group.
Awesome happy hour
The service was good.
AMAZING!!!! We love this place.
our friends introduced us to this place and we have been here three more times since :) :) :)
Great food, good portions, friendly staff, good value!
The food is good, but the service is pretty bad. Especially the white girl on the front.
Beat birthday lunch ever!!
Went there at 8:20pm and the restaurant was still nearly full. Ordered premium meat lover combo for two people. The portion was excellent for two and I like their sweet and spicy dipping sauce. The waiter who served us was very friendly and professional. Overall great experience
It was our first time at Gya-Kaku and we really enjoyed it. Our waitress was extremely friendly and informative. Unfortunately we couldn’t order any alcohol but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the meal at all. We are already itching to go back.
Food is great but small portions and not all you can eat. Also this is *not* a smokeless experience so be prepared accordingly. Note that at the time we attended they did not have their liquor liscence which is not advertised so we didn’t find out until we got there. Due to issues with the building they are also only open till 930pm
No alcohol available, which is kind of important for yakiniku.
Excellent food and fun atmosphere. Server was nice Will be fantastic when they get alcohol license back
We are able to enjoy Japanese style BBQ and rich atmosphere.
Food and service were extremely well. There is some smoke from the grills, but it’s expected in a self grilling restaurant.
It was my first time at Gym-Kaku. we'd made a reservation so we were seated promptly. The food was really great and we chose a large array. The Calamari, The fried chicken and the short ribs were particular highlights. and the S'mores! Our waitress was attentive and present. I'd go back any time.
No alcohol, is the reason for your poor score.
Tiny portions. Drinks were not available, which was such a let down. My date was disappointed and I felt bad for choosing this place.
The only downside is that the restaurant didn't have a liquor license. I should have been told that in advance. Our reservation was a business lunch so that was disappointing. Otherwise, it was great and I've all ready told a bunch of people to go, it was that good.
They let their liquor license expire and couldn't serve alcohol. That's just terrible!
Everyone was really friendly and food was delicious!
