Our family was there for the holiday afternoon tea. The lounge had plenty of room and space for stroller. Staff and service was amazing. The afternoon tea setup was fantastic and absolutely photowrothy. Price was fair especially for a themed holiday high tea. The quality of food was good but not the best high tea I've had. I'd still recommend it for the experience and the service.
After being seated by the hostess, we sat for 15 minutes and nobody came to our table to even offer us a glass of water in spite of it not being very busy at all. There was a distinct absence of organized service or somebody managing the service. We left after waiting the 15 minutes.
I had an amazing evening of share plates and cocktails here this past weekend. The drinks were first-rate, and the complexity and subtlety of the flavours were a very pleasant surprise. The food was tasty and the service was truly phenomenal (hats off to Lisa for making the experience a memorable one)!
We were staying at the Westin Bayshore where this restaurant is. We'd tried the Rotisserie/Grill also in the hotel and had drinks at the H2 one night. The Rotisserie is not very good, especially for the price. But the H2 is actually pretty good. I mean, the food is quite good and the drinks are, too. But it feels much more like a lobby bar than a restaurant. I was shocked to find out it was a restaurant. The food we had was all very good, but arrived SO incredibly slowly with no updates as to the hold up that it ended up really annoying us. Yes, when the food arrived, it was yummy. But it took about an hour for the appetizers to show up, then almost another half hour for the entrée, and the place was getting ready to shut down by the time dessert arrived. It's incredibly loud with people having drinks, the seating is not comfortable (very, very low chairs), and the "live music" is a different "DJ" every night kind of vaguely dancing and playing whatever kind of music they like. Girl pop one night and Trance the next. It's a very scattered experience. They make very good food, but they really don't seem committed to being a food experience which is why I think it ultimately fails overall. Be a lobby bar OR a good restaurant, but commit to whatever you choose.
Tasty cocktails, tasty food. Waitstaff were very attentive. There was a convention for the TV show Supernatural going on, so the people watching was very entertaining!
I took my cousins who were visiting Vancouver for the first time to this place. The food tasted great, and the presentation of each dish was exceptional. Regarding the food, one small complaint we all had was that all the hot dishes were served luke warm, especially the pork wellington which they told us was the reason why we had to wait a little longer.
And one other thing, after we ordered our food, we saw a small mouse ran by the window next to our table, so we alerted the staffs about it - to which a staff told us that there is some renovation going on in the hotel and that there's nothing they can do about it. No one tried to come inspect the spot or do anything. We were a bit surprised about their indifferent to this matter, and asked to be moved to a different table. The manager later told us that our dessert and drinks will be on the house. However, as we didn't order any alcoholic drink and we ordered the prix-fixe meals where dessert is included, we didn't get any discount in the end (we even had to pay for a tea we ordered, which is technically a drink?). That's not a huge problem as after all we were generally happy with the food. However, one thing that does bother us is that later on they still seat people at our original table, as if they didn't believe us? Or thought that a mouse is not a big deal in a restaurant. Anyway, I'm sure the mouse problem will go away after the renovation is finished, but I thought the staffs could have responded better to this problem (or at least they should pretend they care a little more).
beautiful dishes, attentive service, lovely presentation... but you still feel like you're in the waiting room of a bus terminal since it's completely open to the hotel lobby and everyone around us had their feet propped on their suitcases while reading on their iPads. It just wasn't the cozy experience one hopes for for afternoon tea and very expensive given the portion sizes and lack of ambiance. Whisking people's suitcases away to another room would have helped, some kind of screens at the front to block out part of the lobby would also be welcomed. Having just had tea at the Hotel Vancouver the week before, this was very disappointing in comparison.
Excellent service from the staff though, can't fault them for their friendliness and attention to detail.
Decor is so very handsome in art deco. Place settings are very good quality. Service was phenomenal - even better than the scenery. Food was presented very well and I'd say 90% of it was excellent - not just good. My favorite was the egg bun and the caviar. The other 10% that was served was just not my type - but everything was beautifully played. Teas are delicious and abundant. Would return.
Worth to try
It's located where the old lobby is and many people just come walking in, seat down and talk on their cellphones thinking it's the wait-area, while patrons of the restaurant are supposed to be enjoying a nice meal ... a little annoying ! And there's not much view from the restaurant, that's a pity. The food is a little overpriced and the quality is ok.
Amazing cocktails and desserts. Arctic char was great. Melts in your mouth. Server well educated on their menu.
Unlike other restaurants' prix fixe menus, which are usually tasting portions size, H's has full portions of their menu items.
Our server, Hannah, was excellent and friendly, and comp'd us drinks and a dessert for our anniversary. Both mains and desserts were amazing! The live DJ was entertaining.
Will not hesitate to return again to H!
Went with my wife for our anniversary. Decor was good, food quality and presentation we're very good. They kindly gave us complimentary champagne and the cotton candy/ferris wheel high tea was very entertaining
Our French server is impeccable, very accommodating to our little ones. She has made superb recommendations base on our needs. It’s definitely one of our best afternoon tea experience in town.
Wonderful service and food!
Very nice place to celebrate friends birthdays
Food taste really good.
I love the room. It reminds me of The Great Gatsby. This was my second time and the service still impresses me. The portions are smaller than most and they have a charge for bread but it's that type of place where you go to splurge for that special person on a special occasion. The seats by the window are my favourite. They also have live music and other evening a DJ playing music that I love. Overall a wonderful evening. Our server from NZ was informative, personable and attentive.
The Eastern tea set was a creative twist on traditional afternoon tea. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere. The live music was great and really added to the whole experience.
The best part of our experience is definitely the ambience and decor. The live music was a nice touch and the servers were attentive and cheerful.
The first round of mussels from the seafood tower were not fresh and we told the server. The halibut that included mussels were much bigger and fresher. Poke sauce was too salty but you learn to use less. Cured Salmon was the highlight and giant prawns were a tad over cooked and tough. Beautiful presentation. Brie pastry was decent. The server misheard my rare steak and delivered nearly well done steak. I mentioned the well done steak to the server but I just ate it. I do think the portions are so small that after appetizers, you would need an appetizer plus 2 mains and dessert to feel almost full. Wouldn't come back to eat a meal but a good place to flaunt your wealth and enjoy a drink.
Always great service. I love coming to H tasting Lounge for meetings and get togethers. I think the server this time was too keen on helping us and he took our plates and cups away before we some of us were actually done drinking and eating. It would have been better if he had asked if we were done with them. Other than that, I had a great time.
My dad’s 89th birthday and I had gift certificates. The Asian manager was soooo gracious and she sat us at a perfect table for my dad and his walker! We had Hannah as our server and she was super!! Knowledgeable about the wine and loved cooking (and was amazing at it!) the flaming desserts and ensured my dad had his dairy free choices.
We loved the Howard Hughes theme too and my sis took tons of pics, pink chandelier and the propellers are breathtaking!
The first music act girl was a bit too loud and wailing but the second duo were absolutely perfect for the lounge and the ambience and sounded great!!!
Great valet service too!!
All in all we had a wonderful time: booking online like this was great too: I am not sure if waitstaff get our initial requests (no dairy etc) but the gracious hostess knew about us!!
And it’s nice there is a concierge too at front door to direct us!!
Waitstaff is excellent and very attentive (it wasn’t busy when we were there). Cocktails good as well and nice selection. Live music was solid as well. Food was a letdown, ingredients overall very good but someone in the kitchen doesn’t know what they are doing with them. For 18 bucks 4 small pieces of shrimp in smothered in cocktail sauce with 2 hunks of avocado and some seaweed and sugar something on top wasn’t working. Other dishes were forgettable. Could be solid hotel bar but needs the exec chef to show up more often and whip people into shape.
Food was excellent.
Very fun high-tea experience, great staff, and amazing view!
This is an understated find in a city of restaurants. The great live music, impeccably attentive and intuitive staff underscore a menu that defines food as pleasure and not just replenishment. My compliments to the chef’s awareness of complimentary flavours and presentation.
Amazing food and ambience. Our steaks were cooked and plated to perfection. The service was impecable. They had two bands playing so we stayed longer for drinks and desserts and then more special coffee drinks. Oh and our handcrafted Mai Tai’s
Lovely experience and delicious afternoon tea.
Our server Emmanuelle was exceptional! Live jazz band was great too!
Entrees were good! Our server took a long time to get anything on the table.
the tasting lounge was absolutely gorgeous and the food was spectacular. 10/10 would recommend
Highly recommend you avoid this place place. Overpriced for the food quality and both waiting and management provide horrible service. We had a derrible experience.
Amazing customer service with great atmosphere
While I think this place is great for cocktails and maybe an appetizer or two, I don't recommend it for dinner. Tables and chairs (with the exception of bar top tables, which I dislike) are REALLY low to the ground. My husband and I both had to splay our legs out to the side, otherwise our knees were bruising against the underside of the table - and we're only 5'9" & 5'11" respectively. We noticed many other patrons were having the same difficulty. Music was a little too "club electro beat" - should have switched to that at say, 10pm. Also the lighting at the bench seating along the outer wall was completely insufficient. The majority of people were using the torch on their phones in order to read the menus. Our server was really good, but the food items we did have (7 items as we WERE there for dinner), were just OK.
Thank you so much for the hospitality! We all enjoyed the food, the amazing music and the space. Everything was so lovely!
I was very impressed with the live music , i think makes a very attractive venue. i would suggest the hotel advertise this venue as there is very little mention in the music scene papers or write ups. Its romantic great views nice setting by the water , a very unique setting. I think its great you support live music. I think the food menu was on the expensive side , for sure there was room to charge a little less as the drink menues were a little more in line.
Went there for xmas dinner. Ordered the lobster mousse stuffed chicken wings, oyster and sea urchins. two thumbs up for all appies. However, the main courses were a bit disappointing. The black truffle linguine and lobster mac n
cheese were a bit bland. but the lobster itself was very fresh.
Occasion: Christmas Day dinner.
Atmosphere: The lounge is well appointed, chic without being intimidating and intimately lit. We were seated at a small table where the chairs were far too low. If you are not a fan of sitting on low chair/stool, I would recommend asking for a bar top style table. There was live music in the form of a singer/pianist and then a guitar duo which were both far too loud. I personally prefer a lounge with soft piano music playing as oppose to feeling like I'm there for a dinner concert.
Food and Drinks: I ordered a pineapple juice with sprite, mint and specific instruction for easy ice. The drink came very well presented with sprigs of mint and dried pineapple but about 75% of my drink was ice. Our server never noticed that we did not receive any cutlery/place setting until my appetizer came and I asked for a table napkin. She seemed surprised that the cutlery doesn't dance their way onto tables like in "Beauty and the Beast". The Bone Marrow with garlic confit under the "take off" section was delayed and when it eventually arrived, never took off. It was one bone marrow and one slice of bread for $18 (If you want to really take off on bone marrow air, I suggest heading to "The Flying Pig") Last but not least the "In Flight" Black Truffle Linguine was met with an unforgiving air of turbulence. Thankfully, I had the foresight to add two diver scallops. At $35 for a small portion of pasta, three paper thin slices of black truffles and additional $12 for two diver scallops, this lounge menu leaves me stranded at the Hungry International Airport after checking in at the Wanting More Terminal.
This is just a hotel lobby lounge. The room is beautiful, however that was the only good thing about our experience (other than the live music, but the acoustics were still not great). Portions are small and awkward to eat, service was terrible... 9 tables in the place, 3 servers 2 bartenders, what looked like 2 managers and a host.... and it felt like everyone was running around. The man who served our wine was very awkward and did not know how to do proper wine service (although he took the bottle from the table, opened it away from us, and tasted it all behind a wall... very strange). I feel like this room has so much potential but the staff appeared to be poorly trained, they seemed stressed, and the food/wine/cocktails are all VERY high priced. I don't mind paying top price in the high end hotels and restaurants in the city, but this was not worth the prices. We actually left to go elsewhere for dinner our experience was so terrible. I would love to see this place get it together as it is one of the most beautiful spaces around.
The lounge itself is absolutely stunning, the cocktails were a particular highlight. Staff were courteous but busy as it was full with a private party & hotel guests. Will definitely go back
Disappointing experience. Greeted by confused staff, who seemed to give away our reserved table to a vocal customer who wanted a side table. We waited a long time for a menu and for service.
