Hawthorn Dining Room and Bar
The grand lobby bar embraces guests, perfect for after work drinks and a night shared with friends. The dining room offers a modern vintage experience in a comfortable setting with a rotating menu and carefully crafted wine list.
Paying homage to the past, whilst looking forward to the future - the new space sets the stage for old stories to be told and new memories to be made
Everything we had was great and perfectly done. It was really a pleasure to dine here. Highly recommended.
Food was just ok, took an hour to get breakfast.. ambience is very nice.. just go for a drink and take in the beautiful building
Can't beat the ambience. Very attentive service . Good food and value.
The food wasn’t memorable except the trout and the sauce for the peri peri chicken. Portions small for the chicken and the 12oz steak has a lot of fat and gristle.
The sides are very expensive for what you get. Service ok, not great.
Won’t be back
Peter was amazing! Super friendly and welcoming, the place is gorgeous and the food is so gooddd!!
Awesome! I had the lamb pasta dish which was delicious. Only thing was there was a lot of au jus in the bottom. The server immediately wanted to take it away and get the kitchen to “fix” it but I told her all I needed was a bit of bread to sop up the goodness. So she comped me an order of Hawthorn bread. Perfect!!!
A couple minor mishaps, and quiet cramped for our larger group and it took a while for drinks so we were ordering two at a time.
Was fantastic food and service.
A Christmas tradition, 4 dear friends go out for a special dress up lunch. We are seniors. I made the reservation. I worried as knew the Palliser had been renovated. We loved the changes. The Frank Lloyd Wright touches and rail car dining room were perfect. We set in lobby to admire festive Christmas decor. An added bonus Grey Cup weekend so it was an energetic spot not missed on us 4 old ladies. We all had smoked salmon on bagel and excellent.
Went for a business lunch, food was fine, service was ok. We missed the very small sign over the bell desk that is quite far from the restaurant entrance and were "greeted" by the host inside, he wasn't impressed with us and didn't try to hide it, quite awkward - we received the same tone from him when exiting. The service was slow but adequate. Overall, it was fine, not great. I'd expect better from anything in a Fairmont.
Way too small of portion for pricing. The server said it was sharing. I would suggest getting your own app and sharing a large plate. Apps are over priced and tiny. Server tried to up sell us, was slow on service amongst other items.
My fiance and I had an amazing experience
We found the food & service to be excellent. However the pricing of the beers that we had were absolutely ridiculous. $11 for a 16 oz
The lights were dimmed and walls and floors were a bit dark for my taste. Otherwise the food and service was excellent.
A most awesome evening celebrating a very special occasion. The Service is exceptional, the servers, Bobbie and Travis very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and very attentive without being obtrusive.
The food, outstanding.
The Pistachio Parfait, from the dessert menu. was one of the best desserts I have had. The hostess was very friendly and very professional.
The ambience is sophisticated, but approachable and relaxing.
I can highly recommend going to Hawthorn Dining Room and Bar for any occasion
We have fined before however our meal was not as good as the last time. Our server did correct the issue however one of us ate before other.
I order eggs benny gluten free , potatoes were hot, hollandise sauce was cold like it just came out of the freezer, poached eggs cold as well. Server was fantastic and quickly took my food and. Replaced it right away , however by the time my food cane out my son was finished his meal. When the new meal came out it was hot however one egg was cooked hard and the second was cooked perfect. I finished and left
Great evening! We were celebrating our anniversary and it was the perfect end to a nice day packed with relaxation, shopping, fun, music- Bond and Beyond (CPO) and lastly great drinks and food. Hostesses however, were not very friendly and sat us in a corner by the fire hoses. Seats are not very comfortable unless you’re sitting on a chair. When I tried to tell our hostess that we were staying at the hotel and had reservations she denied (not once but a few times and wouldn’t take the time to look- How rude!) She was in a rush to sit us down. She was not friendly!!! Thank goodness our waiter, who we know, was GREAT, otherwise we would have left:(. This place has been completely re-done and although some changes are great there was nothing wrong with the OLD set up:). The food was amazing! Tuna appetizer is a must!
This Place was really good. The menu was a bit confusing but the staff were really good at explaining. We really had a great time at this restaurant.
Food and service were truly fantastic. The brussel sprouts? Come on...mind blowing!
Quick business lunch during my break. I was greeted and seated very quickly. Not super busy in the dining room and food came out quickly. Very tasty and prompted service.
The restaurant is brilliantly decorated in Gatsby style with modern accents and comfortable lighting. The music is energetic and atmosphere is casual but high-end. The restuarant feels 'fancy' yet is very kids friendly with highchairs and kids menu available. Our server Renata was ultra friendly and helpful, and full of energy, passion, and knowledge about the food we were ordering. It was a great dining experience overall and we definitely will come back again.
We have gone to the palliser restaurant for 40 years now always enjoyed beautiful restaurant celebrated many birthdays and always our anniversaries there. We went there on October 29, for lunch as we were in the downtown . What a disappointment the beautiful restaurant has turned into a bar dislike the decors doesn’t look anything like it was. The Pallisar is know for its elegant decode and the history of the grand old building we have had our grandchildren there as well. I loved having High Tea there but not wanting it in a pub setting . Even the elegant furniture has been taken away. We wish the Pallisar all the best and hope the younger generation supports them for the next 40 years as we did for the last 40 years . My disappointment in the new surroundings will not have us return to the restaurant.
The interior space is beautiful and inviting. I definitely would return for a coffee but not for food. The protein salad was absolutely tasteless. We ordered zaatar fries for the table and they were delicious but not much on the plate. Our server was polite and timely. Hostess at front desk was clueless and unprofessional. Food was too pricey for the amount and quality.
We opted for the morning buffet with a special order for eggs. The omelette we got was small and the asparagus was borderline raw. I would not say that it was an “oh my this is wonderful” meal. Food was not up to temp and there was little variety. Expensive and could have been better.
Great special occasion dinner! I went with my wife to celebrate her birthday. I was a bit hesitant when I checked out the menu because it didn't really have a vegetarian "entree" (similar to the steak, or chicken option) but the menu is designed as a bunch of smaller shareable dishes anyhow so I just ordered an extra veggie dish for myself. It worked out well. All our shared plates were excellent but I think the dessert was our favorite -Malteser Espresso Creme Brule!
The newly renovated Hawthorn space was very cool and comfortable. Speakeasy 2.0. Being in the Fairmont - the service was top-notch just as you'd expect.
Enjoyed my experience a lot. Please take a look at my Instagram post @meetongue
Impeccable food and service. Will return soon upon my next visit to Calgary.
Wonderful experience there every time. Would highly recommend this spot if you're looking to try something new in Calgary
Perfect night out
Fried chicken sandwich is amazing. Super juicy and tender. Fries are addicting, goes well with a ice cold beer. Service is prompted and engaging.
Really nice ambiance and excellent service. The only thing that didn’t go as planned was that I thought I was booking in for high tea because I was on that page, however it just did a regular reservation so I did not get high tea. It was still good but if you want to do a special reservation, you should phone.
Was excited to check out the new space and menu and we were not disappointed. The space was a mix of modern and classic and was very inviting. The sharing menu had a wide variety of choices and we loved every single dish that we chose.
Topping off the great food was a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I highly recommend that everyone try this place.
The best meal in Calgary till date .. don’t miss out to try the beef cheeks and crepe cake .. great value for money and our server Peter was very friendly and super professional.
Will visit again soon .
Came in to Hawthorn because a friend had mentioned their menu change. We had a variety of dishes which all hit the mark. The Gai lan and XO was delicious and OMG the beef cheeks were melt in your mouth!!! Can’t wait to come back! Service was also nice. Not stuffy and felt upscale but yet casual. Cocktails are amazing and wine selection was great. A true Calgary landmark with exceptional food and drinks!
Amazing new restaurant in Calgary - a must try! New menu is great!
Service was absolutely terrible. We were left alone for what felt like an hour at a time. We informed our server the Albacore Tuna was very fishy half of the guests didn’t even want to try it. She didn’t apologize didn’t recognize it didn’t offer to take it away... we still paid for it. Had to pour our own wine and water. We were left with empty drinks often. Left with dirty plates. She would only
Clear half the table. It wasn’t even busy nor were any apologies received. She was missing for so long at the end we had to ask the bartender for our bill. Bedsides the tuna crudo all of the food was really good and we’d like to come back we really liked the ambiance but the service was absolutely
Have been a guest of the Palliser for the past 15 years, the new dining room takes the old feel and combines it with a new updated vibe. Definitely feels more trendy
Food was a little bland, awesome atmosphere. Could use a few more vegetarian options on the menu.
Spectacular setting with great service! By far the best place downtown to have a business lunch. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is refined. Our waiter Jack was both funny and professional. Can’t wait to come back!
